Mariah's New Album Title

From mariahcarey.com

MARIAH TITLES HER NEW ALBUM "CHARMBRACELET"

Charmbracelets have always had a personal and
sentimental significance for me. Charms are like
pieces of yourself that you pass on to other
people...items that tell your story, and that can be
shared...like a song. The bracelet represents the
foundation of this album, a body of work that
encompasses many feelings.

Lord, she is such a ditz....
Maybe she needs one of those charmbraclets that are candy, but instead of the candy it would be little anti-depressants...

Mariah Does Def Leppard Cover

Mariah Does Def Leppard Cover

Yes, that's right -- your eyes are not deceiving you. On Mariah Carey's new album, Charmbracelet, the sexy chanteuse warbles a cover version of Def Leppard 's hit "Bringin' on the Heartbreak."

I know it sounds weird, and that it probably won't work, but guess what? At last night's listening party for Carey's new disk, this was one of the many applauded tracks on an album full of potential hits.

Go figure.

I guess that's no worse than Britney butchering the Stones.

Mariah seems to like to cover 70s & 80s rock -- she's previously covered Journey's "Open Arms" and Nilsson's "Without You"

Didn't Mariah also do that horrendous Minnie Riperton song "Loving You"? She sure knows how to pick 'em.

Guess "Glitter" didn't completely burn down the tower that was Mariah's fame, perhaps the opposite? Or is this the come-back-after-failed-hollywood-gig-and-subsequent-mental-breakdown CD?

Actually the Glitter Soundtrack went Platinum without having one hit single on it. The problem wasn't that she couldn't sing, it was that she couldn't act.

It may have went platinum, but wasn't it priced well below what other artists where charging for their cd's? I mean I think it was 9.99 at Best Buy for months....

I, the world's biggest Def Leppard fan, just got a complete MP3 of Mariah's cover of their "Bringing on the Heartbreak"

I love covers, esp when they add a new twist, but this one.......

I want to surgically remove my ear canals so as to never hear this again.

mp3

I have heard this album. And before I start, let me say this...

I first heard Mariah's Can't Let Go waaaaaaaay back in 1990. Besides thinking she was attractive in a wholesome way, she had a fantastic set of pipes. [a lil too much emphasis on the "dog whistle" octive, though] I own all her albums up to Butterfly. [Speaking of covers, try listening to the Beautiful Ones. Ugh. But being the Prince completist that I am*...SIGH]

Anyways. Honey is where it all started to unravel. Coincidently, this is around the time her personal life started to unravel. The albums after that aren't worth my keystrokes. So I decided to give charmbracelet[] a chance. I figured maybe a breakdown would help one realize where they went wrong, what was originally working for them, etc...

WRONG.

This album is terrrible**. 80% of it are midtemp/ballads. [Not that there's anything wrong with that but...] I think she's lost her octives. She still doesn't even bother singing. Every song is a breathless whisper. Every now and then she throw in what i'm sure is a sample from her good 'ol days where she'd actually use her voice. [the previously mentioned "dog whistle" octive] The lyrics? Well, they seem to be more personal than the usual TRL fare. But that doesn't mean they're not ridiculous. The main example being Clown. In case you didn't know, Clown is Mariah's response to Eminem's assertion that they had a relationship.

Enough. I've wasted enough time of my life on this album. But i'm sure it'll sell. Everyone likes a comeback story.

* - Well, I used to be a Prince completist. He needs to get off this JW bs and back on track dammit.

** - Extra letter "r" courtesy of Christina Aguilera.

Why can't she remake something cool. I hate Mariah Carey's helium-infused voice, but I would totally buy her cd if she remade Gram Parsons' "Ooh, Las Vegas".

I actually had hopes for her cover of "Bringin' On The Heartbreak", thinking that she might remain faithful to the original hard rock roots of the song, but no such luck. It's a shame, really; she could've turned it into something reminiscent of the great early Pat Benatar albums, with operatic vocals and heavy riffs.

Since her divorce from Tommy Mottola It's been mostly downhill

Ps..Generally speaking I think the public are sick of screaming divas Celine,Whitney, Christina,Mariah we want "singers" not sreamers

If only Karen Carpenter were still alive today!..She was one of the greatest female voices of all time IMO and she NEVER over sang anything
