Counting Crows Fans: What do you think of Hard Candy?
I could not resist dl'ing this last week (I will certaintly buy the day of release) and after a week's listening, it is just amazing. Tunes like 'Butterfly in Reverse', 'Miami' 'Hard Candy' are excellent. The band sounds great and Adam's lyrics are as powerful and beautiful as any previous album. Like 'This Desert Life' there doesn't seem to be any instant classic's such as 'Round Here', 'Mr. Jones' and 'Long December.' But it is not at all a sell out album to revive sales or fame--(I haven't seen the 'American Girls' commerical) it is just the 'Crows continuing to be one of the few bands of high musical and lyrical artistry around who have been able to survive the 90's destruction.

I think this is an amazing album. In my opinion, the best stuff they've done since August & Everything After. A few of the songs instantly stood out as some of their best ever- Hard Candy, Miami, and Holiday in Spain. July 9th can't get here fast enough.

When I saw them in a Coke commercial, I was wondering if they had a new album. I'll probably pick it up this weekend. I loved August, couldn't get into Satellites, but really liked Desert Life.

The album isn't out in stores until July 9th, but you can hear several of the new songs at their official site:

Resurrecting for release day....Rolling Stone gave it 3 stars with such comments as "This is a supremely confident, fastidiously arranged, masterfully played recorded with a slightly prefabricated feel." Adam even said in the Billboard interview a few months ago (and recently on the 'Crows site) he wanted to the album to be huge. The RS review ended with this little jab: "Can Duritz really be THAT hung up on his former flame when he sounds as if he's just singing along to his record collection..." Well at least he's not signing along to the words written by someone else to music created by no name backing musicians as the music of today is....
