Worldwide list of mainstream retailers

<dl><dt>Argentina Retailers :

<dt>The sites that appear to accept international orders (Info. as of march05,02 based on what I could determine via language-translation sites) :
<dd>&#0186 http://www.dvdventas.com.ar/<dl><dd>if you click on "Ayuda", you are taken to a "Preguntas Frecuentes"(, i.e. FAQ) In it, there is mention of different methods of payment that are accepted. Towards the bottom of the page under the title "Zona Geográfica Días hábiles para la entrega" is a list of what countries to which dvdventas will ship. Therefore, this list seems to indicate shipping to all parts of the world. But I could not find a part of the site that lists specific shipping&handling fees. I also could not determine what is the significance of the click-able list of Latin American countries on the title page (Info. last updated on March05,02)</dl>
<dd>&#0186 http://www.dvdmovies.com.ar/<dl><dd>"Formas de Pago" is forms of payment; "Preguntas Frecuentes" is Frequent Questions". If you click on "Preguntas Frecuentes" and then "Compras", you'll find more information on both handling of credit card information & ordering (more information on this can also be found here: http://www.dvdmovies.com.ar/terminos.html ), and wording that leads to the assumption that international orders are accepted : "y 35 pesos a países del resto del mundo" or "35 pesos to countries of the rest of the world". Further information (though still vague regarding international orders) can be found here: http://www.dvdmovies.com.ar/s-cart/...s-exterior.html (Note: using http://www.dvdmovies.com.ar/Medio.html seems to cause the site to load incorrectly with a lot of the site missing) (Info. last updated on March05,02)</dl>
<dd>&#0186 http://www.musimundo.com or http://www.musimundo.com/librosol/inicio.cfm<dl><dd>(The site for me loads VERY slowly. Aside from that, I'm impressed with the layout/arrangement of the site and its contents. There's an FAQ/Help section if you click on the "?"-icon in the upper right corner. There's a table half-way down the page detailing the shipping&handling fees to different parts of the world (It appears that this site delivers worldwide) )</dl></dl>
<dl><dt>The Argentina retailers that do not seem to have any identifiable or clear statement or information regarding international orders :
<dd>&#0186 http://www.dvdnext.com.ar/<dl><dd>seems to be incomplete or at least not operating correctly (Info. last updated on March05,02)</dl>
<dd>&#0186 http://www.lk-tel.com.ar or http://www.lk-tel.com.ar/home.asp<dl><dd>The only information regarding international orders that I could find was under "FAQ"-link. With a rough translation of the text under "Cómo debo de hacer para abrir una cuenta en Lk-Tel si quisiera poner un videoclub?: ", it appears that this site is a club that you must join first. And that each potential order is dealt with on a case-by-case basis depending on the location. (Info. last updated on March05,02)</dl></dl><dl><dt>

<dd>&#0186 The best resource for any further information and/or discussion on Australian etailers is http://www.dvdplaza.com.au (Registration is req’d). All or almost all of the etailers have representatives who participate in the forum; this site will let you compare prices among the different etailers. If you place your name on dvdplaza’s email mailing list or else check the main page of their website, you will be kept up-to-date on upcoming sales.

<dd>(b)"Suppliers Forum" over at http://www.thedvdforums.com/ (Registration req’d; also, there is a subforum for Family Box Office which has
a representative who answers questions there)

<dd>(c) "Regional DVD Area" over at the http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/index.php

<dd>&#0186 Bear in mind that all prices listed for items (and for shipping) at these etailers are in Australian dollars

<dd>&#0186 And prices for items at all the etailers include a 10% GST which will be deducted for all non-Australian customers during the process of purchasing your items (a quick way of figuring out the cost of an item without the 10%-GST is to divide the price by 1.10 )

<dl><dt>&#0149 Comments
<dd>&#0186 Out of all the etailers that you see listed, amazon.de is (to the best of my knowledge) the only etailer that has ever been named as an etailer in Germany that is known to ship internationally
<dd>&#0186 The concensus is that, unfortunately, it takes an average of (at least) about four to six weeks for an item to reach a destination in the U.S.
<dd>&#0186 Furthermore, if the item in which you are interested has a "FSK18"–rating, strict laws forbid most German etailers (including amazon.de) from selling it
<dd>&#0186 An alternative is that you can place your order with an etailer in Switzerland. So far one of the dvdtalk-members has ordered successfully from http://www.uoe.ch/. The reported time for delivery was much better (I would have to look up his old posts, but I believe he said it was around one to two weeks)

Don’t know of any review sites, but not sure I’d believe the specs of a disc anyway (the covers are rarely correct).
Not one ever says "anamorphic" or "enhanced for widescreen", although the ones I’ve purchased do seem to be (just luck I guess). Most discs are produced locally by nu-metro (cinema company here).

<dd>VAT is an acronym for "Value Added Tax". The price that you will see for an item includes this tax. Some etailers (like amazon.co.uk) will remove this tax from the the cost of your purchase during the check-out process; the downside is that you will have to pay the cost of shipping.
<dd>With regard to those etailers that offer free shipping (or charge a nominal fee for shipping), again, the price that you will see for an item includes this tax. BUT the tax will NOT be removed during the check-out process. For the etailers, this covers their costs to ship the item

      or

(Click on "dvd" to proceed to another page. Now, you can either proceed straightaway with price-comparing by simply typing in a title in the blank space or you can click on one of the commands. Here, with (rough) translations done by me with altavista, are what the commands will do:

(Click on "Best Buy" to see "The current TOP good deals, whose price particularly deviates from the cut")
(Click on "billig" to see a list of titles whose price lies between the two monetary values (from 0 to 75 EUR and from 5 to 80 EURO) which are adjustable by you)
(Click on "preisrutsch" to see a list of the "price reductions [that] were found in the last 7 days")
      (Click on "hilfe" for help)
(Click on "standard" to return to price-comparing for a particular title which can be entered inside the blank space)

here is a brief explanation of it as offered by http://store.yahoo.com/dvdcrave-au/info.html#Ordering :
"When choosing DHL (http://www.dhl.com.au/) there are several advantages.
Obviously the major benefit is the speed of the delivery which is 2 Days to most Capital Cities
all around the world. Also the tracking system which allows you to see exactly where you order is in transit, and when to expect it. With DHL (http://www.dhl.com.au/), a signiture and name is required when being delivered, so this will also prevent any lost and stolen parcels. From a safety and security point of view, DVD Crave recommend you chose DHL International Express as your delivery option."</dl><dl><dt>FedEx (Federal Express)

Atlantic DVD in South Australia

Atlantic DVD is a new online store (only a month or so old, I think) in South Australia, that has branched out of a B&M store. They do international orders.
I have ordered from them myself and was very happy with price and service.

Hi AutumnNights!

I was only concerned about the Russian section. I appreciate your work (you've done a great job!) and of course, with my "incomplete-incorrect" comments I did not mean that the whole list is incomplete or incorrect.

Just in case, I do speak Russian pretty well so do not hesitate to ask me any questions on Russian DVDs you have. BTW I have several Russian DVDs in my collection and I'm pretty happy with them.

A good place to find links to Australian DVD sales is to go to www.dvdplaza.com.au. Same sort of site as this one but has alot of links to the Australian e-retailers.

dvd-basen

excellent list!
you may want to add dvd-basen (http://www.dvd-basen.dk) in there somewhere.. i'm not sure where exactly, but it's a database of DVD reviews for every region with reviews from a lot of sites.

I did not see this one listed. I got it from Goldfishlegs this morning.

http://www.mainlymusic.com - Prices are all listed in Canadian currency.

Canadian Etailer where they sell Sony music cd's and Sony distributed DVD titles. H. They only ship to Canada.

I've placed my first order which is :
Items(s):
SKU QTY NAME PRICE DISCOUNT
005747.dvd 1 Bridge On The River Kwai: Limited E$22.99

Subtotal: $22.99
Shipping: FREE
HST: $3.45
Gift Certificate: ($3.00)
Total: $23.44

I checked ABsound and Futureshop, the same DVD is 45.49$ and 49.99$, so add the shipping and taxes and you save about 30-32$ buying from Mainlymusic.

[edit] Free ground shipping on ALL orders.

I got the DVD... indeed limited edition.

[edit] prices were a sale... now a lot pricier than before.

I share your pain -- I, too, have a looooonnnngggg wish-list of dvds from different countries. So many titles and not enough money to spread around.

Everyone else : I appreciate very much your suggestions for additions to this thread. I haven't made any updates to it in awhile only because of the amount of things that I've had to take care of over the last couple of weeks and because I needed to take a little bit of a break from the thread.

I plan to return to updating the thread sometime within the next several weeks.

Regards,
A.N.
when you do get back to updating, you might want to add Foreign Films as a general review site. It's kind of like an IMDB for foreign film junkies. No, it doesn't specifically relate to DVD's but I think if people can read reviews of the movies they'll get hooked - I know I've found several titles that I now want because of it....
