I Am Sam Soundtrack / Beatles discussion
So the soundtrack to the new movie I Am Sam is out, it's a collection of Beatles covers:
1. Two Of Us - Aimee Mann
2. Blackbird - Sarah McLachlan
3. Across The Universe - Rufus Wainwright
4. I'm Looking Through You - The Wallflowers
5. You've Got To Hide Your Love Away - Eddie Vedder
6. Strawberry Fields Forever - Ben Harper
7. Mother Nature's Son - Sheryl Crow
8. Golden Slumbers - Ben Folds
9. I'm Only Sleeping - The Vines
10. Don't Let Me Down - Stereophonics
11. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds - The Black Crowes
12. Julia - Chocolate Genius
13. We Can Work It Out - Heather Nova
14. Help! - Howie Day
15. Nowhere Man - Paul Westerberg
16. Revolution - Grandaddy
17. Let It Be - Nick Cave
Has anyone picked this up yet? Now, it's pretty hard to go wrong when you're covering a Beatles tune since the source material is so good, but I can't help feeling this compilation is a little too straight-forward. I'm not for a complete reimagining of these songs, but a Dust Brothers or Busta Rhymes version should would've been interesting. Maybe it just wouldn't have fit the movie.
Also, if you were a rock star, and they asked you to cover ONE Beatles song, which one would you choose??

I'm really interested in hearing the covers by Nick Cave and Stereophonics. Those should be interesting if anything
If I were gonna cover a Beatles song, it'd be Sergeant Peppers.

I imagine if you're a Nick Cave fan the "Let It Be" could be pretty cool, but I do say that without having heard it yet. Although I'm not a huge Beatles covers fan - go for the original, i say - this one has a good selection of talent on it, I might have to check it out. Any reviews yet?
Oh and if I were to cover a beatles song (if I could sing or play an instrument that is) I would have to pick... "Tomorrow Never Knows." Cool song that could be done lots of different ways.
