dvd's won't play right....blinks blue screen & brightness issue

I just got a panasonic dvd player and hooked it up through my vcr (for now). I tried to play a couple of dvds and it keeps on blinking with a blue screen constantly. also, you can see it getting bright and dark and then bright again while it plays. but i also tried swordfish and works fine. could it be that i don't have an rf modulator? or would it be the dvd player/movie. any feedback would be appreciated. i figure its not having the rf modulator but this forum always pulls through for me so..
thanks for the responses in advance.

There's a bit on macrovision in this forum's FAQ, here: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...adid=165672#17

Hooking up your player through your vcr is causing the problem.

You answered your own question. If your TV lacks a composite (yellow) video input at minimum, a RF modulator is a must. You can get one at most electronics stores for 30 bucks or less.
