The Gang returns... mostly... in the 13th Season of the FXX original comedy series It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
Mac (Rob McElhenney), Charlie (Charlie Day), Dee (Kaitlin Olson) and Frank (Danny DeVito) return to their duplicitous, scheming ways at Paddy’s Pub, while Dennis (Glenn Howerton) takes on the new role of father in North Dakota.
Last season, the Gang experienced new highs. Mac acknowledged his sexuality and Charlie convinced The Waitress, his longtime target of affection, to move in with him – and the lowest of lows – Frank became the official beverage sponsor of a terrorist group, Dee helped a man reach rock bottom, and Dennis was investigated for murder.
Even without Dennis Reynolds, the Gang has its hands full as Charlie hopes to have a child with The Waitress, Mac sets out to understand his newfound sexuality, Dee takes feminism to new heights, and Frank goes to great lengths for the Gang to experience the greatest moment in Philadelphia sports history – an Eagles Super Bowl victory.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was created by Rob McElhenney. He also serves as executive producer along with Charlie Day, Michael Rotenberg, Nick Frenkel, Tom Lofaro, David Hornsby, and Megan Ganz. The show is produced by FX Productions.

10 episode 13th season. It has already been renewed through season 14.
They've said Howerton will be in the majority of the season (https://variety.com/2018/tv/news/its...13-1202894711/). I wonder if the sex doll is what they meant .

Why does he have a reduced role again, just burned out? Or does he have some other big project in the works that requires his time?

And they also view it as a creative decision: “After 12 years, we’re trying to mix things up, we’re trying to do interesting things with the characters, and trying not to tread on the same territory over and over again,” he continued. “We’re trying to find new and interesting ways to challenge ourselves and challenge our writing. Obviously, there was something we’d never really done before — we put the characters through things that will actually affect the rest of their lives, by Mac (McElhenney) finally coming out of the closet and by having Dennis leave at the end of season 12. So it was a creative decision, we thought it was an interesting choice to make, an interesting direction to take the show in, and it also potentially afforded me the opportunity to free myself up to do some other work.”

I'll always be excited for a new It's Always Sunny season but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little worried that the dynamic of the show will suffer without Dennis. I get what Howerton is trying to say in that tweet chain but these big changes late in a show's run rarely work.
At the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a big ruse by the gang and Dennis returns for good halfway through the season.

Here is the quote: “We went through all sorts of ideas before we knew that Glenn was coming back,” McElhenney said. “He’s in pretty much every episode.”
“He’s in the majority of them,” Day chimed in. Day also revealed that the team behind the show got creative with ways to shoot around Howerton’s absence, such as doing an all-female reboot of a past episode of the series.

Sounds like Glenn is saying that it's a character choice and not an actor choice.

Yeah, the Dennis doll is crazy disturbing
Didn't like Cindy at all, that was all wasted time for me.
And Frank with the quick gun, "Kill it, kill it!!"

Cindy didn't bug me, she's a good wall to play off of. They always have the guest star do that.
Desperate Mac and Sex Doll Dennis were great

I’m going to guess that all of us could hear what Dennis was saying too.

Will the studio continue to pay if he wants to maintain this physique?
Very happy the show is back, but I completely forgot how last season ended, so I was confused by the absence of Dennis and the waitress living with Charlie. I should have done a quick rewatch first!

I got a crack out of Mac everytime he proposed "using" his physique.
Good start to the season, wonder where they'll go with Dennis.

Loved how they trolled the fans in thinking Mindy Kailing would be a cast regular in the post-Dennis era. I have noticed that people either love her comedy and don't think she is funny at all and I'm sure there were those Anti-Mindy fans watching this episode totally pissed off. I'm glad they didn't drag the 'when is Dennis coming back' as I thought they would go a few more episodes, so I'm cool with the episode now that he is officially back.
And that Dennis doll is scary disturbing!

Howerton wasn’t even in the opening credits.

The gang is still funny.
Last night they did an escape room.
Was odd that it was set up in Dennis’s apartment though.
A few times Dennis quoted lines from Jurassic Park.
