Now on to the third book of the trilogy. This is written as one big continuous story. While's there been a major event at the end of the first two books, they're not quite stand-alone (with the biggest plot thread clearly be built up for resolution in the third book).

Never read the books but was a pretty big fan of the movies. What a wonderful series, and I'm glad I watched the movies first, as I would have hated them if I knew how much was being left out.

On book 3 at the moment. Stumbled upon these through goodreads, and so far I'm really enjoying the series. Nothing ground breaking, but its a very easy read through an action packed story. If you are a fan of end of the world type books, I would recommend.

Really great fantasy trilogy. I liked that it didn't overwhelm with point-of-view characters, with only one central character for the first two books (and a second introduced for this third book). I don't care for fantasy series that are so complex that I can't keep track of who everyone is without continually turning to a guide (I'm lookin' at you, Malazan series!).

#7 in the series, and I think one of the stronger ones.

Next up, I'm back to tackling a series I put on the shelf more than three years ago:



That's bookstop #5 (out of 10). I own physical copies of the next three in Malazan series, and that's always a motivating force when you have something you spent money on taunting you unread from the shelf.

So far I've had a mixed response to this series. It's an impressive effort of world-building, to be sure. And there are numerous striking scenes, images, and characters. And there have been an equally numerous number of times where reading can be a slog, with a sea of cumbersome names and terms. Erikson's writing style seems almost intentionally unfriendly, as if he's challenging the reader to keep track of the story.

70 pages in, I like that Midnight Tides seems to be a mostly fresh story, and doesn't seem to be demanding that I have photographic recall of the previous 3000+ pages of the series so far.
