I already have The Matrix on BD and DVD, but this movie alone might be a worthy upgrade for the 4K print.

I have zero interest in the sequels though if they're ever released.

Oddly enough this is one of those movies that I am not sure I ever purchased on blu ray so picking it up in 4K will be sweet. If the sequels include The Animatrix as an extra there is that hook to get me to pick up the sequels, otherwise I appreciate not having to pick up the trilogy as a UHD set.

I'll always fondly remember The Matrix as one of THE show off DVD's and rewatching the Neo/Morpheus fight and the Lobby scene. Aside from the individual release, I've also owned the sets on DVD and Blu-ray.

I'll probably buy this one when it's part of a deal or cheap. They should go back to the original color timing rather then the green tint that they added

I had that crazy DVD set with the Neo bust...
I had the HD DVD set...
I currently have the Blu-ray set...

I probably shouldn't buy this. Maybe when there's a complete collection, and it's cheap. I haven't revisited these films as often as I would have liked.

Yeah, a remaster plus Atmos will make this a worthy upgrade. Now if they do the same with the sequels, I'll be in for those. I know, no where near as good, but I enjoyed them for what they were, flaws and all.

What I'm really curious about is if they will remaster The Animatrix.

I had all three sets as well, and still never opened the HD-dvds or BDs. I think I'm going wait for a price drop this time!

The cover art has kind of a green tint to it, so I wouldn't count on it. Hasn't every release since the original snapper DVD had the green added?

Yup, I remember it being a big deal when that first complete Matrix box set came out on DVD and I remember keeping the snapper DVD for the color timing. Alas.

Re: The Matrix 4K Ultra HD on May 22, 2018

The Matrix has always had some greenish tint. The original color timing of the first movie de-emphasized reds and blues to make green more prominent. You can see this even on the first snapper case DVD and the Laserdisc. The movie has never had "normal" colors. However, the Wachowskis cranked up the green a lot more on the sequels, and then retroactively imposed the heavier tint on the original movie to make them consistent.

This is an easy buy for me of a sci-fi classic.

The $31.99 preorder price tag is holding me back. I love The Matrix but not enough for me to justify paying such a high price for a movie I've double dipped a few times. Not to mention I could care less for the blu-ray version and digital version I just want the 4K disc for cheap.

Fry's will have these for $9.99-$12.99 within a few months, and the holiday sales will drop these everywhere. I'll buy in then, provided the reviews are all that.

I hear ya.
When will the studios start selling 4K UHD releases without the BDs, etc.?
All it does is add to the price tag (which is high enough).
For catalog titles, odds are buyers ALREADY have a BD copy!
Besides, why would anyone even want a BD copy if they have a UHD?

BTW, I don't buy UHD disks unless the price is $19.99 or less.

Might as well throw in everything else:

4K Ultra HD + Blu-Ray + Digital + DVD + VHS

$41.99

Both the DVD and Blu-ray sets eventually went down to under $20, so if they release a new UHD set, I think I'll wait a while.

It’ll be color timed to match the others. That won’t stop sales.

I don't remember, is Bill Hunt good or bad at reviews? I forget which aspects he's trustworthy on

Who knows. I don't follow up much on his work. However he wasn't off with his Saving Private Ryan review which is of reference quality.

I don't think Matrix 4K is gonna fail either in terms of quality being it was supervised by the film's director Bill Pope.

I'm just super happy reading the review because Matrix is one helluva spectacular kick ass movie. It deserves shine on 4K.
