Again all of this isn't really necessary to enjoy the movie but you'll get so much more out of it if you do your homework.

Like The Wire, there are many stories that are not necessarily dependent on each other, but they each add a layer that make the whole stronger.

I mentioned the 8 years later title card in the Spiderman: Homecoming thread and a few guys basically shut it down and said...."who cares" "Just enjoy the movie"It fucks up the timeline in the MCU, especially since Avengers 1 takes place in 2012 and Homecoming supposedly takes place 8 years after it.
I think that was a bad oversight by the folks at Sony.

I think while some things are screwy with the timeline it overall doesn’t matter that much because most of the films don’t mention a specific year they’re taking place (a couple exceptions but mostly they don’t) and aren’t overly reliant on saying this film takes place exactly this date or year. If you watch the films chronologically (other than the two Guardians films back to back) they all fit together and while that title card doesn’t seem to gel I can look past it as an oversight.
Also I don’t think it’s ever been officially said that The Avengers takes place in 2012. I know there was a timeline by Marvel stating that Iron Man takes place in 2010 and then the other Phase One films take place in 2011.

I believe Kevin Feige admitted that the title card in Spiderman Homecoming was a mistake. They might even correct it in future releases. I heard that they also will likely come out with an official timeline. If I were to guess after Avengers 4 comes out next year.

Iron Man could not have taken place in 2010, because MySpace was already dead by then.

Yeah, and again it’s not like the films make reference to specific years very often. Really the Spider-Man: Homecoming mistake is the only blunder to the timeline that sticks out as throwing off the timeline. Like I said though for me at least it’s easy to just kinda ignore it. If Marvel wants to correct it at some point and change the title card to just five years later I wouldn’t mind but I’ll still view the film the same regardless of the title card. The films work together the same regardless and the continuity is still fine. It doesn’t really matter what the year is.
