These books are good light reading. Though I can imagine the formula getting old after a point. But so far its fresh enough (I'm 6 books in) that Butcher is able to keep progressing characters and expanding upon the world in each book.

I'll chime in - nowhere as good as The Martian. Not a bad read, but disappointing by comparison.

I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised/entertained. Weir seems to be trying too hard to write the book in a way so it could easily be turned into a screen play.

The Forge of God - Greg Bear

The Forge of God is a 1987 science fiction novel by American writer Greg Bear. Earth faces destruction when an inscrutable and overwhelming alien form of life attacks.

I liked it! A difficult book to classify, it's part prison melodrama, part mystery, part courtroom drama, and part ghost story. One thing it's not is a zombie book like the author's previous "The Girl with all the Gifts" (and that failing seems to be the reason why some on Goodreads are trashing this). The book structure (very short chapters) makes for fast reading, and the author does a great job at bringing characters to life.

I absolutely loved this! One of the best young adult novels that I have read in quite some time. 5/5

A good book, if not up to the standards of the author's debut The Windup Girl.
