Action Comics #1000

Anyone planning on picking this up tonight or tomorrow? Its official release date is Wednesday, but there are many stores that are having midnight release parties and the book will be on sale right at midnight.

I plan to go to pick up one of the issues and just want to see how much of a crowd they will get for this at midnight. I almost hate the fact that they are doing multiple variant covers for this issue. Seems like there may be about ten wide release variants and then a number of stores/ companies will have their own variant. There could be as many as 100 different covers for this issue. It's sad there won't be any "official" non variant cover for this issue. When everyone thinks of Action Comics #500 or Amazing Spider-Man #300, they will have that one iconic cover in mind. Now when people think of Acion Comics #1000 everyone will be thinking of different covers.

Re: Action Comics #1000

Actually, there is a regular, non-variant cover done by Jim Lee

But I think this will be the iconic image people will remember years from now and it was done for the hardcover version

I wish they did something similar to this for the 80th anniversary/Action Comics 1000

Re: Action Comics #1000

I had thought the Jim Lee cover was the 2010's decade version. I do like that version with the covers in the background. I think that one is the best out of all of them. I'm glad it's not that silhouette version that they've been showing for the past few months. I'm not sure which one I will get. I was thinking about getting the Jim steranko version of the 1970s cover because he will be in Philadelphia next month. But I may get with that one with the other covers in the background. I also may get the sketch cover version.

I already ordered it off eBay - went for the '60s 80-Page Giant version. Even though I no longer collect, I may grab issue 1021 when it comes out so that I'll have a (very incomplete) span of 1,000 issues - from #21 to #2021.

I haven't decided if I will hunt down one of the more rare variants or will settle for the regular cover.

I don't think it's a great piece of Jim Lee art - his Superman ten years ago looked better.

I'm just getting the Neal Adams variant with his homage to the Superman #14 cover.

This was a great book for Superman fans. I enjoyed it all, but the car and the bullet stories were stand outs.

I picked a copy up this morning. Haven't read it yet, but flipping through it there doesn't appear to be a digital code, unless I totally missed it. For 8 bucks there really ought to be.

I grabbed it too and enjoyed it. The setup for the future was my favorite part.

I also enjoyed reading all the media coverage for the occasion. Hopefully it got some new\lapsed readers to try it out and be exposed to so many talented writers.

Re: Action Comics #1000

It was a good compilation of shorter Superman stories. The art seemed a little more hit or miss than I expected, but I have to remember that some of these artists haven't done Superman work in years.

Jerry Ordway is still a fantastic artist. I wish he was doing a monthly DC book.

Re: Action Comics #1000

My local comic book store sent out an email last week that they were only getting ten copies and it was first come, first serve. They were having a midnight release party. I figured unless I camped out (which I won't do for anything) there would be no chance of me be lucky enough to snag one, so I stayed home.

I have a copy on order with DCBS, but it’s been difficult to resist picking up a copy in the meantime. I imagine it will give me similar feels to what that first Rebirth issue did.

Same, but I ended up going to the shop and grabbing the Jurgens cover. Youre right though, it gave me the feels like Rebirth did

Re: Action Comics #1000

My LCS was out of my favorite cover, the 60s "80 Page Giant" version. They could have ordered one but I didn't want it that badly so just purchased the regular Jim Lee cover (after all - it'll go in a box and rarely see the light of day so in the long run who cares?). Overall I felt it was somewhat lackluster. Art was average and the pile on of short homage type stories got old by the end. What a difference from the hard cover tribute book. That one is spectacular! The only thing missing from that HC is a multi-page spread with miniatures of the 1000 covers (something like's on the cover).

That's good to hear, I'm thinking about that hardcover tribute book.

Re: Action Comics #1000

I snagged a copy on eBay since I don’t have a local shop. Might be getting somewhere this coming weekend with a local comic shop but I wanted to grab a copy just in case.

I got this one:

Sorta wanted one with the DC bullet logo as that’s still my favorite of their logos and from the era I read most but I liked that cover best.

I stopped in to my local shop Thursday and they were out already. They also announced that they are closing at the end of June.

So he's taking all the profits from AC#1000 and running off to some island?

Re: Action Comics #1000

Just got my copy. This is a nice issue. I expected just a standard floppy but it’s got a nice glossy cover and a spine. Glad I ordered it. I’ll give it a read through later probably.

Problem is, he probably only ordered 10 copies plus whatever subscriptions he had for it. So not a very big or far island.
