Games that gave you greatest feeling of accomplishment when completed?

for me:
Batman: Arkham Asylum...this was a game that i started, put down for some reason, went back, finished it, got all the Riddler trophies and finally had a satisfying blast and nice sense of accomplishment after finishing.

Red Dead Redemption comes close, getting 100%, but i stuck with that one without any pause. AA, i paused and then finished and had fun, that was good...

would probably say BioShock 2 now, since i was almost done, had a game ending glitch and started over and also had a blast to the finish...

Old School:
Joust - Flipped the game on Atari 400. I think there were 256 levels and it rolled back to 1 after that. I think I recall doing a dozen or more before calling it quits. I remember spending an entire Saturday morning playing it.

New School:
Burnout: Revenge - Finishing the single player campaign. Some of those time trials and achievements were ridiculous.

Myst - I was probably 13/14 at the time when the game was recent(ish)

FF12 - By Completed, I mean 100%. All hunts/content

LoZ - As a kid, who wasn't super proud the first time they took out Ganon??

My favorite two are probably finishing Halo on the hardest difficulty, and completing the original Dungeon Master.

Beating Alien Isolation on hard mode while using mostly stealth was probably the most recent feeling of accomplishment.

Wow. Didn't think I would run into another Dungeon Master player. PC or Amiga, or some other platform?

That game is my answer as well. In fact, I finished it multiple times because i wouldn't to prove to myself I could do it with a different mix in my party.

Original Atari ST owner here.

I played it a few times, it’s sequel at least once, and even rebought a ST decades later to be able to play them again.

Here’s the wiki for anyone unfamiliar with this groundbreaking classic:

Re: Games that gave you greatest feeling of accomplishment when completed?

I had a Sinclair Spectrum, C64, Atari St and Amiga. Dungeon Master was a fantastic game. Hired Guns was very similar and equally as good. Games back in the 8 bit and 16 bit days were REALLY challenging. I think the first time i completed Street Fighter II i was proud of myself. I do recall beating Outrun on the arcade on my first ever go. Completing a lot of the old Ultimate - Sabreman games on the Spectrum gave me great pride as they tended to be tough.

Re: Games that gave you greatest feeling of accomplishment when completed?

There are definitely more than what I have here but here's what comes to mind:

Original Ninja Gaiden (isn't this the king of them all?)

Original Rygar

The Evil Within

GTA San Andreas - it was my first old school GTA and it was back when Rockstar made them tough to play let alone beat

Outlast - was so damn tense playing it, will never forget that experience - I hear Alien Isolation is the best of them all, can't wait to play that one soon.

Re: Games that gave you greatest feeling of accomplishment when completed?

I'll add Alien Isolation to the list as well. Between it being too damn creepy for me and the extra padding that the game didn't need, I actually felt a weight lifted off my shoulders once I finished.

Other than that, playing through some games on the hardest difficulty (mainly shooters like the Halo & COD franchises) and getting some rare achievements (like COD MW).

I really wish I could add some Souls game to that list, but I know once I get around to them I don't think I will stick with them long.

I played through he sequel as well. Actually went back to playing the original after that rather than ever playing through the sequel again. In my case I've toyed with the idea of finding a working Amiga so I could play it, and some other Amiga only games, again in my lifetime. Sadly, I've never played another role paying game that got everything right like DM did. Most games obviously add better graphics and sound, but always leave out something that made DM so "realistic" and unique.

Re: Games that gave you greatest feeling of accomplishment when completed?

My second favorite was the original X-Com game. Ancient graphics and sound, but to this day the best squad game I have ever played. Especially the single player campaign given so many games now only focus on the multi-player. The final mission on the alien planet was awesome and I was on a high for days after finally defeating them all and seeing the end cut scene.

Ultima 3 as a kid. No internet, no game guides... just figure it out and chat with friends about finding magic herbs.

I was never able to finish GTA:SA

I got stuck at the "area 51" missions, and was never able to proceed further.

I don't think it counts as "old school GTA" unless it's overhead perspective.
