Re: Ninth Annual Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge April 1-30, 2018 LIST THREAD

2010 B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge List - 104
2011 Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge List - 105
2012 Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge List - 100
2013 Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge List - 100
2014 Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge List - 64
2015 Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge List - 86
2016 Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge List - 98
2017 Drive-in/Exploitation Challenge List - 109

3/31/18

1) Crocodile Fury (1988) [B-Movie TV] - Batshit crazy Godfrey Ho flick mixes a Thai were-crocodile movie with new footage of a sorceress and her hopping vampire minions.
2) The Cat Creature (1973) [B-Movie TV] - Made for TV movie written by Robert Bloch (starring Meredith Baxter, David Hedison, John Carradine, and Keye Luke) about a mummy's curse. Fun for what it was.

4/1/18

3) Kung Fu Arts (1978) - Cracked open a DVD set of PD chopsocky flicks I bought for a couple bucks from Hamilton Books awhile back. This one was something else. Would-be assassin is interrupted trying to kill emperor, his daughter's boyfriend is framed, there's a fight and the princess is accidentally shot with a poison dart. Emperor declares that whoever cures the princess can marry her, so the boyfriend goes to cure her, but is recognized and chased away, so he sends his pet chimp with the cure. Chimp cures princess. Emperor makes princess marry chimp and sets them adrift in a boat. They crash on island. Princess has baby, and her and the chimp raise it as Chinese Tarzan. Eventually he leads a group of monkeys against the bad guys.
4) Return of the Kung-Fu Dragon (1976) - Oddball wizards and warriors flick. Bad guys attack castle, but the young princess and the children of three generals escape. Eventually those four join up and seek revenge.

4/2/18

5) Dragon Lee vs. the Five Brothers (1978) - Dragon Lee and a couple other rebels are trying to keep a list of names from the bad guys. Not bad.
6) Treasure of Bruce Lee (Enter the Game of Shaolin Bronzemen) (1979) [B-Movie TV] - Bruceploitation in title only for this one which had nothing to do with Bruce Lee. Bruce Le has to keep Japanese from getting "Five Styles of Shaolin" book written by his master.

4/3/18

7) Martial Law II: Undercover (1991) [B-Movie TV] - Cynthia Rothrock and Jeff Wincott play chopsocky cops. This is the second Cynthia Rothrock flick I've seen in the past couple of weeks where it looked like the filmmakers were setting up a big fight between her and a badass female villain for the end of the movie, but nothing really came of it and the fight scene ended in a few seconds.
8) The Snake, the Tiger, the Crane (Emperor of Shaolin Kung Fu) (1980) - Another princess barely escapes with her life. Travels around. Meets a guy. Eventually they team up and kill the bad guy who killed her father. (I've noticed that in a lot of these movies it takes two good guys to defeat the bad guy. Doesn't seem very sporting.) Started out slow, but got better near the end.

4/4/18

9) 4 Robbers (1987) - This one's a gangster movie, not a chopsocky flick. Four robbers steal stuff, shoot a bunch of people. Last movie in that DVD set.
10) Dead Eye Dick (1970) - Porn flick from the period when full-frontal nudity was allowed, but not actual sex. William Howard (who I recognized, but would never have been able to name) plays private eye, Dead Eye Dick, who is hired to investigate some guy, giving him opportunities to have simulated sex with a few women. Lots of bumping and grinding, and some of the biggest hair I've ever seen in a color film. With Uschi Digard and Neola Graef.
11) Skin Flick Madness (1971) - Another softcore flick with Sandy Dempsey (the girl with the butterfly tattoo) and some guy playing a young married couple watching a triple feature of porn shorts, becoming more aroused during each feature. Uschi Digard is in the second short, licking and sucking on some chick. Sandy Dempsey is the main attraction here. I've seen her in small parts in movies, but don't remember ever seeing her featured.
12) The Magic Mirror (1970) - Uschi Digard buys a cursed mirror which lets people see themselves partaking in their deepest desires, which for Uschi's character includes being covered with shaving cream and playing slip 'n' slide on a fat schlub. Nothing special, but worth a look.
13) Hell's Kitten (1972) - Wanted to watch another Sandy Dempsey movie, so I grabbed this one I hadn't seen before. It started like the last three (similar titles with silly fake names), but surprisingly had hardcore footage edited in (it's obviously not the main actors, and I don't know if it was originally released that way or if it was added for a re-release). Sandy plays a prostitute who gets into making porn.
14) Wild Honey (1972) - Don Edmonds movie about a motorcycling Vietnam vet who meets a farmer's daughter (Donna Young/Dona Desmond - another actress I've seen in bit parts, never featured) and runs off with her to Hollywood. Uschi Digard is an extra in final reel. The SWV copy I watched was from a really choppy print, obviously missing footage here and there.

4/5/18

15) The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful (1970) - Soap opera (with occasional nudity) about a politician having an affair with a servant while his wife is blackmailed for drug use and naked pictures of her from when she was single.
16) Shaolin Deadly Kicks (1982) - Group of thieves break into a house to steal a treasure map, but the homeowner is killed during the robbery, so they break the map into pieces and agree to lay low for a few years before retrieving the treasure. Soon a chopsocky cop starts hunting them down one by one, collecting the pieces of the map. I saw a newer movie not long ago on B-Movie TV that ripped off the treasure map part of this story, but I can't find the title.

4/6/18

17) Weapons of Death (1981) - Hoods from Chinatown, upset that a woman hasn't paid her protection money, hire a ragtag bunch of criminals to kidnap her daughter. The woman calls up her ex-husband, who, along with her two sons and a couple of their students, go to get her back. Low-budget, bad acting, and kicked way more ass than it had any right to.
18) The Big Fight (Blood on the Sun) (1972) - Group of kung fu experts battle against Japanese occupiers. Eventually the Japanese arrange a Jaspanese vs. Chinese martial arts tournament to try to get rid of the kung fu fighters.
19) The Girl from the Naked Eye (2012) [B-Movie TV] - Chauffeur for a high-priced call girl decides to play hard-nosed detective after he finds her dead. Plenty of violence. Lots of shots obviously inspired by Sin City. Definitely worth checking out at least once.
20) The Brave Lion (1974)- Japanese authorities release two prisoners and send them to China to run a lumberyard during the occupation. Nothing special. Like many low-budget '70s flicks, it was set in the past, yet most of the people were wearing modern clothing, which pretty much ruins the basic premise of the film.

4/7/18

21) Sick and the Dead (2009) [B-Movie TV] - Ultra-low-budget zombie flick shows us three survivors who eventually meet up and join forces for a while. Didn't hate it.
22) Affair in the Air (1970) - Uschi Digard is a stewardess on a flight from California to Georgia. Sandy Carey plays one of the two passengers, a madam on her way east to franchise her whore house. Norman Fields is the co-pilot, and the franchise buyer in the last reel (I guess they figured either no one would notice or no one would care). More silly credits in this one: "Dick Burns," "Mike Hunt."
23) The Madam (1969) - Hippy on a motorcycle picks up Uschi Digard after her Jaguar breaks down and takes her home where she introduces her mother, the madam of the whorehouse where she lives and works. A couple of familiar faces and lots of simulated sex. No title or credits on the copy I watched.
24) Hot Child in the City (1987) [B-Movie TV] - Chick travels to Hollywood to visit her sister. Sister is murdered, so she sort of investigates. Very '80s. Pretty decent soundtrack.
25) The Rites of Uranus (1975) - Cult members chant and have sex. Occasionally a plane flies overhead and airplane noises obscure the (most likely improvised) dialogue.

4/8/18

26) Play Time (1995) [B-Movie TV] - Skinemax style flick about two couples experimenting.
27) Cannibal Apocalypse (1980) [B-Movie TV] - First rewatch of the challenge, but this was coming on B-Movie TV, so I figured I might as well watch it again and save myself the trouble of picking out a movie. John Saxon is a Vietnam vet who was infected with a cannibalism virus during the war. Somehow it remained dormant for a few years until one of his war buddies shows up. Wallace Wilkinson, as a no nonsense Southern police captain, nearly steals the show from Saxon.
28) Raw Force (1982) [B-Movie TV] - Another rewatch because it was late and it was easier than picking out a movie (plus I wasn't sure if I'd be able stay awake through the whole thing). Cameron Mitchell plays a ship's captain taking a small group of people to an island where Vic Diaz and a few other monks kill women to revive kung fu zombies. Add in some nudity, and you have a decent little time-waster.
29) Slave Trade in the World Today (There Are Still Slaves in the World) (1964) - Mondo movie about slave trading.

4/9/18

30) Frankenstein Island (1981) - Group of survivors washes ashore on an island inhabited by a mad scientist, his minions, and a tribe of bikini-clad dancing girls (so basically the same plot as She Demons (1958), but with Frankenstein, ghosts, and aliens instead of Nazis). Cameron Mitchell plays a nutty, Poe quoting prisoner and John Carradine is Dr. Frankenstein.
31) Bruce vs. Bill (1981) [B-Movie TV] - Bill Louie happens upon a gang killing some old dude. As he's dying, the old dude gives Bill a key to a safe containing a bunch of money. Bruce Le meets Bill. They fight. They fight again. Finally they join up to battle the two gangs trying to get the key.
32) City of Fear (2000) [B-Movie TV] - Kickboxing reporter goes to Bulgaria and ends up investigating the death of his friend, a scientist who was working on a mysterious project.

4/10/18

33) Little Miss Innocence (Teenage Innocence) (1973) - Capitol Records employee (John Alderman) picks up two hitchhikers (Sandy Dempsey & Terri Johnson) on his way home from work. What starts out as a good time for him soon turns bad, and later on takes an even darker turn. Would make a good double feature with Teen-Age Jail Bait (1973) in which John Alderman and Sandy Dempsey play the reverse of their characters in this one. End credits revealed that Ray Dennis Steckler was director of photography and set decoration was by George Flower (I checked IMDb, and sure enough, it really was the one and only Buck Flower).
34) Teenage Seductress (1975) - This one actually did play as a second feature with the previous one back in the day, and it's definitely the lesser feature. Girl whose dad left when she was little, goes to New Mexico to find him and sleep with him because her mother was crazy, or something. Buck Flower was co-writer, an associate producer, and assistant director on this one.
35) All the Kind Strangers (1974) [B-Movie TV] - Stacy Keach picks up a little kid and drives him home to a big house in the middle of nowhere. He meets the kid's brothers and sisters and their "mother," a woman being held against her will. He soon finds himself a prisoner in the house as well, chosen by the kids to be their "father." Okay made for TV movie with a disappointing ending.

4/11/18

36) The Indelicate Balance (1969) - Swedish artist, Harald, and his wife visit his family who he hasn't seen for years. Eventually we learn that Harald left home after his mother found out he cheated on her with his sister. It's a Joe Sarno movie (from his Swedish period), so it's mostly people sitting around talking about sex (in Swedish), with some occasional nudity.
37) Nightbirds (1970) - English chick picks up a homeless bum, buys him a spot of tea, then takes him home to her flat. They talk. Fall in love. Get jealous. Argue. Talk some more. Argue some more. Ad nauseam. Another bore-fest from Andy Milligan.
38) Hell Comes to Frogtown (1988) -

4/12/18

39) Return to Frogtown (Frogtown II) (1992) -
40) Raw Courage (1984) [B-Movie TV] -

01. EASY WHEELS (1989) Meh...move along - YouTube
April "fooled"myself with this random YouTube watch. Definitely for Raimi completists only and I can see why it's remained a total obscurity. The talent had me hoping for another gem like Intruder since this came out around the same time. I got a few minor kicks from its gender subversions and general lunacy, although I'd have to put this in the bummer biker movie heap with Larry Bishop's dismal Hell Ride and that inanely unflattering Easy Rider sequel. The YouTube uploader teased a Bruce Campbell cameo that didn't arrive; not that the chin could have saved it. 3.8/10

02. MIDNIGHT (1982) Cool sh*t! - YouTube
John Russo shamelessly cannibalizes from other drive-in nightmare movies and might have even inspired the filmmakers behind Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. The kind of down and dirty regional filmmaking that works best when viewed after midnight via grainy film print or faded VHS tape. I settled for YouTube. Oh, to have been a fly-on-the-wall during some of these productions. Who wouldn't want to see Tom Savini prepping makeup for Lawrence Tierney? Russo hinted at a remake several years back when he'd also claimed to be working with George A. Romero again. I'll have to crack open my copy of Russo's Scare Tactics; one of the first no-budget filmmaking guidebooks I ever read. I'd also be interested to read his novelization of this movie, which I heard is actually damn good. That folksy title song made me smile and needs to be on a mix tape with similarly incongrous cuts from Last House on the Left and Night Train Murders. 6.1/10

03. SHEENA (1984) Watchable...grab me another beer - YouTube Movies rental
I prefer my jungle kicks to feature nasty cannibals and a little more tastelessness. Teen Sheena with Kirsty Lindsay was a missed opportunity. Still lots of vine swingin' and some decent PG action, not to mention a surprising amount of bare skin for that rating. The ending is more poignant than I was ready for, especially from a pic nominated for five Razzies. One of the last features from veteran exploitation director, John Guillermin; the talent behind The Towering Inferno and Shaft in Africa. 4.6/10

04. FAIR GAME (1995) Watchable...grab me another beer - YouTube Movies
Another multiple Razzie nominee from the past finds its way onto my viewing schedule. Joel Silver ruled the Hollywood action scene for quite some time. This is certainly one of his less succesful entries, even if he shoves lots of eye candy and R-rated action our way. He was trying hard to make crossover movie stars out of certain names at this time. Cindy Crawford didn't work. Dennis Miller didn't really work out either, but I loved seeing him star in a Tales From the Crypt movie, and thanks to Silver, was paid a million bucks for it. Crawford can't supermodel her way out of this one. She flashes some boob here and there (very little), but is totally unconvincing as a crackerjack criminal lawyer. Brigitte Nielsen and Angie Everhart had a screen presence that Cindy never musters. She is more likable onscreen than Maddona ever was, though. Crazy little bonus: Jason Vorhees himself, a hulking Kane Hodder, appears as an assassin during the steamy train sex sequence between Crawford and Baldwin. This time, the sexing couple strikes first! 4.6/10

05. ROOMMATE WANTED (2015) Cool sh*t! - YouTube Movies rental
A young woman bitch slaps her roomie with a used dildo. And that's just a tease of what's to come. If you dig nasty girlfights, this is already a recommend for you. That streak of catinesss that runs through the veins of even the best of BFFs can turn into a fire and fury hellstorm when synchronized menstrual cramps unleash into a bloody mess of spiteful contempt and bitter envy. Crazy impressive low budget black and blue comedy thriller about just how mean girls can be to each other; especially when they share living quarters and just a bit too much personal information. A showcase of jealousy and rage that doesn't forget to keep the audience entertained. Briskly paced and well-acted, shrewdly working its small cast and single location. The script opts for cleverness over lewdness, but manages to feel like a quality guilty pleasure all the same. How can one not be entertained when the catfight goes from comically offensive to dangerously violent? Btw, that ending was cold, brutal...and kinda sorta perfect. 7.8/10

06. THE SPECIALIST (1994) I'd buy that for a dollar - YTS
Combines the best and worst of nineties pop cinema into a powder keg of big studio schlock. An action revenge flick with erotic thriller elements and the inevitable star pairing of Stallone and Stone. Stone had already been in features with Seagal and Schwarzenneger by this point. In fact, this was originally intended for Seagal to direct and star in, but he demanded too much money. I'm glad we get Sly's version of a demolition man with a weakness for violated femmes seeking vengeance. Those erotic elements got plenty of negative attention during the movie's release. There's a lurid tease montage during a phone call between the stars that felt like it lasted 9 1/2 Weeks, and eventually we get the notorious shower sequence that was probably the pic's biggest selling point. Water beads bounce off Sly's pecks and Stone's breasts in a strangely staged sex scene that would be eclipsed one year later by the pool scene in Showgirls. Brilliant cinematographer Jeffrey Kimball mixes golden hues and sky blues. He focuses on the beauty of his talent and locations in equal measure and this likely led to getting him Wild Things, which I consider his best work. bet on the gold trifecta of clutch movie sleazebags as Rod Steiger, Eric Roberts, and a typcially high energy James Woods are slyly cast to give the movie some bite. In the year that Pulp Fiction changed the genre game, these gentlemen are at their pulpiest. The source material is a genuine pulp series of men's action books by John Cutter. I don't know if there have been other adaptations, but I like having homework. Peruvian director Luis Llosa previously made B grade action vehicles for Erik Estrada and David Carradine. His most notable other movie is Anaconda, another favorite of mine, which earned him a Razzie nod. 8.6/10

07. SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES (1983) Meh...move along - The Pirate Bay
I do love the premise about a travelling carnival attempting to steal souls from folks in a small town. This was a troubled production from that brief period where Disney flirted with the darker side and made some lavish but largely forgotten cult curiosities like The Black Cauldron, The Watcher in the Woods and Return to Oz. The films were atypically bleak and a bit too frightening for younger viewers, which is the reason audiences likely rejected this new direction by Disney. Cinematographer Stephen H. Burum would become DePalma's prime lensmen and has an impressive list of credits that includes Mission: Impossible and Francis Coppola's mesmerizingly beautiful Rumble Fish. He lends a lot of atmosphere, but everything else is rather impassive and baffling. The best scene in the movie is a nightmare involving tarantulas that was added to creat a few needed chills. Ray Bradbury's original dark fantasy novel has inspired some good stuff, though, like Stephen King's Needful Things and John Carpenter's The Fog. Not to mention the evil freakshows of Tobe Hooper's The Funhouse and HBO's prematurely canned Carnivale. 3.7/10

08. ANDRE THE GIANT (2018) Cool sh*t! - Rarbg
I can see why promoters suggested ditching the name "Géant Ferré" in favor of Andre the Giant. Good call. I used to watch Grand Prix wrestling when I was a kid and had no idea Andre made his North American debut with that Canadian wrestling league. I was a young boy in the seventies and loved the hell out of The Six Million Dollar Man, especially those Big Foot episodes. Lots I didn't know, but this friendly giant won me over. 7.4/10

09. BLOODY MURDER 2 (2003) Watchable (T&A or good action) - YouTube
Was in a slasher mood for Friday the 13th, but went with a bargain Jason clone instead. Even without a Doctor Wolfula commentary, I had a good time with this sequel. I like the idea of counselors sticking around at the end of the summer camp run, when all the kids have departed, and these summer job bonds and romances are suddenly strained. I guess if I'm looking for something fresh to say in story terms, that's as good as it gets. Camerawork has also genuinely improved and so have the kill scenes. The girls are even cuter than the first and I love all the low riding shorts and tight tank tops. Unfortunately, only gen Y scream queen Tiffany Shepis was actually willing to get naked. Fans will be happy, but she's not a personal fave. She's got a fine body, but I was hoping the T&A would be distributed a bit more justly amongst the lasses. 5.7/10

10. COMIN' AT YA! (1981) I'd buy that for a dollar - YTS
I'd been curious about this one since seeing newspaper ads years ago. That image doesn't lie. I'm a sucker for eighties 3D, slow-motion, westerns, rampant bloodshed, and lovely women. That title sequence comes at you, and so does everything else that the director can think of. The bats on strings sequence is hilarious, but makes you consider what a 3D version of The Birds might have been like. That is what 3D is all about, not just bland depth perception. Shit needs to fly at your face, and here, it literally does. I understand how Mel Gibson found it hard to make Monica Belluci look bad. Victoria Abril is a similar kind of woman, and she can't be uglied up no matter how much dust and shit you throw on her; she will just look more beautiful. 8.2/10

11. WAR BUS (1986) Watchable...grab me another beer - YouTube
Thought the Warbus was going to turn into the Bangbus a few times. Director Ferdinando Baldi (under an alias) keeps sexual tension high by casting a few female missionaries to distract the macho mercenaries. Standard B fare Namsploitation for this ride. 5.5/10

12. RENT-A-COP (1988) Watchable...grab me another beer - YouTube
Razzies 1989
Worst Actress (winner!)
Liza Minelli for Arthur 2: On the Rocks and Rent-a-Cop
Worst Actor (nominee)
Burt Reynolds for Rent-a-Cop and Switching Channels

James Remar reminded me of The Exterminator and half a dozen giallo psychos clad in black, wearing motorcycle helmets. There's some great and excessive violence in his scenes and I wish there was more of that kind of action and bloodletting throughout. I'm a lifelong Burt addict and I need to see everything he did eventually. Been slowly making my way through some of his most maligned and forgotten pics over the past years and there are lots still to go. This one would get a higher rating from me were it not for Liza Man-elli. She is one of the most shrill and unappealing stars that can't be easily explained. Happy to see the Razzies gave her a prize. I don't care for Judy Garland either. Burt is easygoing enough to make it work anyway, except when he keeps calling Liza "kid" (looking older than Burt and in her early forties). I loved that Burt's character (Tony) has a cluttered apartment and the fact that he lives alone, takes bubble baths, and enjoys munching popcorn and drinking beer while watching old movies on VHS. He is still spinning vinyl, too. That is man cave excellence. You don't need a Man-elli crowding that space. 5.1/10

13. PARADISE (1982) Cool sh*t! - YouTube
Razzies 1983
Worst Actor (nominee)

Willie Aames for Paradise and Zapped!
Even when I'm not looking for Razzie nominees, they seem to find me. I've unintentionally watched a handful over the past week. I'm going to retroactively need to cite those other flicks for their respective categories. Here we get Willie Aames earning a double nomination for this and one of my favorite sex comedies, Zapped!. Aames actually lost to Sir Laurence Olivier that year, for a movie I'd never heard of. Aames seems a curious choice as the lead in what is essentially a ripoff of The Blue Lagoon. Then again, the dude would soon co-star in a cannibal flick from the creator of the mother of all cannibal flicks, Ruggero Deodato. He's probably most effective playing Scott Baio's obnoxious sidekick. Aames is looking fit enough to share the screen with a positively glowing Phoebe Cates, but he's a dopey wet blanket for the first half of the movie. Trouble in paradise eventually turns into fun in the sun as the young couple explore each others genitalia. Cates gets an amazing amount of nudity and I'm impressed to have found this seemingly uncut on YouTube. I now ravenously yearn for a blu-ray upgrade. Seriously, the Cates nudity warrants HD. If you need another reason, I think that the cinematography by Adam Greenberg (Terminator 2) is actually just as captivating as the Oscara-nominated work by Néstor Almendros on The Blue Lagoon. Once again, though...Phoebe Cates is a dream. I have to laugh to when I hear younger dudes rave about the attractiveness of Scarlet Johansson or Emma Stone. You missed the boat on the hot chicks in movies era by a good thirty years. 7.4/10

14. NIGHTKILL (1980) Watchable...grab me another beer - Rarbg
Jaclyn Smith has the most beautiful head of hair, but she's no angel this time. Her deceitfulness leads her down a rabbit hole of paranoia. I had fun watching the set-up here as Mike Connors (TV's Mannix) lets his male chauvinist id get fully erect. I'm talking Neil LaBute levels of douchebag dialogue and one-liners as Connors verbally and spiritedly demeans the women in his life. He manages to get a a few choice slights against progressive conservationists in, too. After Robert Mitchum appears as a sort of gruffer Columbo type, I had higher hopes for the final act. It all gets a bit muddied and less credible. It's not the salacious slasher that its title or poster suggests, but I love a good neo noir and this was halfway there. 5.8/10

15. GET CARTER (2000) Cool sh*t! - Rarbg
Razzies 2001
Nominee - Worst Actor
Sylvester Stallone
Nominee - Worst Remake or Sequel

Another somewhat overlooked Stallone feature that unreasonably earned yet more Razzie disrespect for the stable Stallion. It's raw eggs and green ham when it comes to villains, molls, and henchmen. I loved Mickey Rourke as a shady, enterprising online pornographer. He's still in beefcake boxer mode here and is fitly imposing when he knocks Sly down and around. Far less beefy--but equally hammy--is Alan Cumming as an affluenza dot.com mogul, habitually rubbing Carter the wrong way. Cumming has one of the most punchable shitgrins in cinema. Miranda Richardson, Rhona Mitra, Gretchen Moll, and Rachel Leigh Cook play the various women in Carter's complicated mob life. Cook is a somewhat forgotten little cutie, looking a bit pasty and cheerless as a teen soured by her late father's underworld connections. Tom Sizemore's in this somewhere too? Must have missed that bit of uncredited action. Good excuse to see it yet again someday. 7.5/10

16. GIUSEPPE MAKES A MOVIE (2014) I'd buy that for a dollar - YTS
Talk about a film-making maverick. Giuseppe Andrews was an actor with a solid list of film credits, including Independence Day, Pleasantville, and Cabin Fever. He turned his back on that career trek in favor of no budget features that starred his fellow trailer park denizens in Ventura, California. His work appears to be a more freewheeling and less aesthetically controlled version of some of Harmony Korine's more explicitly experimental stuff. Like Crispin Glover and David Lynch, he exploits the eccentricities of his motley crew of misfits; perhaps with more love and less pretense. His film gear is basically just an older Sony DV cam and a bunch of tapes purchased at a Walgreen's. Pretty sure that digital tape is nearly impossible to find now. Coincidentally, I checked this out on Giuseppe's birthday, based on a solid recommendation from the F* This Movie podcast. Looks like Troma has released a bunch of his stuff on DVD and I might have to explore that raw collection for myself. 9.4/10

17. CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD (1998) Meh...move along - YouTube
Razzies 1999
Nominee - Worst Supporting Actress
Raquel Welch
Nominee - Worst New Star
Scott 'Carrot Top' Thompson
IMDb Bottom 100 #68

Director Alex Zamm has one of the least pretentious filmographies I've seen in some time. Since debuting with this movie, he's helmed DTV sequels to family hits like Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Jingle All the Way and The Tooth Fairy. The latter both star Larry the Cable Guy, so I'm on board for those. While Larry has many detractors, I believe Scott 'Carrot Top' Thompson is definitely best either in small doses (Smiley Face) or in a "heard and not seen" capacity (his amusing impromptu commentary track on The Rules of Attraction DVD). This is like the veggies only edition of Good Burger. I'm always hoping I'll find something a bit more subversive in a bad comedy, which is why I'm still praising Freddy Got Fingered for its nonstop willingness to be the best in its reviled class. There are some good prop gags here and there and a playful energy at times, so maybe true Carrot Top fans will be pleased enough. I will say the Razzie nod for Raquel Welch is a bit harsh; she's looking fantastic and is hardly onscreen enough to register as much more than a cameo. Funniest scene is Carrot Top auditioning for the lead in Annie. That would be quite a cool bit of stunt casting if anyone had the actual balls to stage it. 3.5/10

18. DOOMED! THE UNTOLD STORY OF ROGER CORMAN'S THE FANTASTIC FOUR (2015) Watchable...grab me another beer - YouTube Movies
Thing is that this story of the ill-fated Roger Corman production has been better told in blogs and articles, and there's not enough there to warrant a feature doc. One thing I can't stand is a draggy, talking heads fest. The events that doomed Tim Burton's Superman Lives!, Richard Stanley's The Island of Dr. Moreau, and Terry Gilliam's Don Quixote made for mostly riveting examinations of movie fiascoes. When it's all said and done I had no desire to ever see this lost Marvel movie, bootlegged or otherwise. 4.4/10

APRIL 29th
19. ALTITUDE (2017) Meh...move along - YouTube Movies
"That was almost as good as bad sex." I seriously beg to differ with that. The line is delivered by Kelsey Grammer's hot daughter, and she's about the only thing that kept me awake during this shitty flight. Airplane thrillers can be fun when executed well, and we got some great ones in the nineties. This, however, is a bad movie made on auto pilot. Poorly choreographed fights and just a cheap and ineffective production all around. Instead of Dolph Lundgren, who is slyly marketed as the action lead, we get Denise Richards. She was a lovely wild thing and a Christmas gift to Bond twenty years ago. Hadn't seen her in awhile, so I found it hard to bear her fatal descent into the lamest bargain bin action schlock. 2.2/10

20. XANADU (1980) Cool sh*t! - YouTube Movies
Razzies 2005

Razzies 1981
Winner - Worst Director

Olivia Newton-John
Nominee - Worst Screenplay
Richard Christian Danus
Marc Reid Rubel
Nominee - Worst Original Song
John Farrar
For the song "Suspended in Time"

This was a time of garish musicals and roller skate fever. The tackiest elements of Bob Fosse's All That Jazz brilliant dream finale are highly influential (Sandahl Bergman basically plays a muse in both). But the contemporary musical timebombs from The BeeGees and The Village People are more similar. Coincidentally, it was Can't Stop the Music that beat this for the top Golden Raspberry Prize in the inaugural year of that celebration of bad cinema. Musicals were kind in a confusing spot, just prior to the MTV revolution. Disco was about to die hard as the movie spectacle would be more comfortable in the action genre. All that said, Olivia Newton John sings like she's in the throes of ecstasy and manages to make even the gaudiest outfits sexy and hot, especially during that finale medley. How was Gene Kelly spared Razzie recognition? That smirk could never be wiped from his face, it seems. 6.2/10

21. EMMANUELLE II (1975) I'd buy that for a dollar - Rarbg
Glossy erotica with Emmanuelle partaking in one outrageous sexual encounter after another. The girl just can't help it; nor can her husband. They share lovers and trade stories of all their sexual conquests. Sylvia Kristel really owns the obsessed nature of her character this time. She can go from flirty to fiery in seconds. The Hong Kong locales and scrumptious widescreen photography add layers of sensual mystique that contemporary sex films don't achieve. Every sequence brings out some new arena for Emmanuelle to play in. She finds climactic pleasure in ancient Chinese acupuncture. The flick's most exciting scene involves Emannuelle and her husband, and their budding teenaged mistress visiting a massage parlor where future Black Emanuelle star Laura Gemser is one of a trio of beautiful body contact artists. Had to pause the video during that one to catch my breath. 8.4/10

22. DIARY OF A TEENAGE HITCHHIKER (1979) Watchable...grab me another beer - YouTube
The most disturbing thing for me watching this cautionary tale about young women thumbing rides is seeing Dominique Dunne in a role where she is a victim of sexual violence. Dunne was the tragic co-star of Poltergeist, strangled to death by an overbearing boyfriend in a jealous rage. Mostly average MOW here with some twists and turns that you can literally see coming down the road. Chalene Tilton is a likable and independent young woman that isn't out hitching for kicks. She's doing it to support herself and to get herself to and from a better job in a nearby town. Tilton was a big deal as a sexpot on Dallas years ago and now I'm very curious about her story arc on that beloved soap. 5.7/10

23. BATMAN (1966) Watchable...grab me another beer - Rarbg
Would have enjoyed this as a kid because I recall being thrilled by Sea World's DC Superheroes water-skiing extravaganza, which borrowed heavily. The Adam West Batman wears out its welcome when stretched out to feature length. It's clearer to me than ever that Joel Schumacher and his Batcasts were doing up the camp in homage to this. This isn't as entertaining as either of his movies, which I have grown in fondness for through the years. But Holy catnip, Batman! Former Miss America Lee Meriwether fills out her Catwoman costume flawlessly. Possibly my favorite interpretation. She gets sexy time with West in her dual role as the Russian journalist, Kitka. 4.7/10

CHALLENGE #1 LIST
CHALLENGE #2 LIST
CHALLENGE #3 LIST
CHALLENGE #4 LIST
CHALLENGE #5 LIST
CHALLENGE #6 LIST
CHALLENGE #7 LIST
CHALLENGE #8 LIST

1TV=First Time Viewing

31/1st:
(1TV)1. Gone with the Pope (2010)-Glad to finally scratch this one off the list. IMO, It's on par with Duke Mitchell's MASSACRE MAFIA STYLE. I actually wouldn't mind to see what other films he could have come up with! (CPU)
(1TV)2. Daughter of the Dragon (1931)-Anna May Wong as Fu Manchu's Daughter! Mostly slow, but a frenzied climax helps bail this out. (DVR)
(1TV)3. Dead Eye Dick (1970)-The best gyrating I've seen in a (Storefront) sexploitation flick! Too bad Uschi Digard is sporting a terrible wig (Why oh why did they do this??) (CPU)
(1TV)4. Death Racers (2008)-The first time I've made it all the way through an ICP movie. Contains only one "Racing" scene and filled with a repetitive soundtrack. At least the kills are often fun...Zero budget and all. (DVR)
(1TV)5. Lovely But Deadly (1981)-Enjoyably silly. I doubt I’ll hear no greater character name than "Mantis Managian" for the rest of this challenge! (YouTube)
(1TV)6. El monstro del mar! (2010)-Starts out as a nice-looking Russ Meyer homage. Slowly loses steam once the monster shows up. (YouTube)
----------------------------------------------------
2nd:
(1TV)7. Sandra: The Making of a Woman (1970)-Nice to see Monica Gayle in a lead role. Imdb says this is 90 minutes, but the version I saw was 30 minutes shorter. Still didn't seem like nothing was lost. (CPU)
(1TV)8. Shaolin vs Evil Dead (2004)-Pretty fun start, but then the film barely recovers from a romantic subplot. And who’s bright idea was it to show the film’s ending WHILE the credits are still rolling? (DVD)
(1TV)9. The Blazer Girls (1975)-I saw this under the title of "Naughty Schoolgirls". Contains more poetry-reciting than naughty hijinks. A letdown, but still not completely bad. (youtube)
(1TV)10. Truth or Dare?: A Critical Madness (1986)-Surprised I never heard of this crazy slasher(?) before. A perfect movie to watch with some pals---Which I ended up doing. (Instagram)
----------------------------------------------------
3rd:
(1TV)11. The Prince and the Nature Girl (1965)-Though it's the weakest I've seen regarding Doris Wishman's Nudist Colony films, it's actually a good introduction on what to expect in the genre. (CPU)
(1TV)12. Avenge the Crows (2017)-Barrio snoozer. But for some reason it brought joy to my heart to see Danny Trejo and Lou Diamond Phillips in the same movie. (DVR)
(1TV)13. Doomsday Machine (1972)-Zzzzzzz. Thankfully, Elvira's horror-hosting duties prevented this from being a total loss. (DVD)
(1TV)14. Gang Master (1982)-As expected, I got lost trying to identify all the characters and "Gangs" in this Shaw Bros kung fu flick. The action barely saved it. (DVR)
----------------------------------------------------
4th:
(1TV)15. Can You Keep It Up for a Week? (1975)-Jeremy (Boba Fett) Bulloch in a pun-filled sex comedy! I tend to always have some fun with these 70's Brit comedies and this was no exception. (CPU)
(1TV)16. Defiance (1980)-Jan Michael-Vincent vigilante flick. Might have been a little bit better if it was R-rated. (DVR)
(1TV)17. Fatty Girl Goes To New York (1982)-I thought a comedy by Umberto Lenzi would have stuck out from the pack, but there wasn't a whole lot to see here. Only the last sequence was memorable. (DVD)
(1TV)18. Ban the Sadist Videos! (2005), (2006)-Watched both parts. I liked this more than the “Moral Panic” series because there was more focus on the actual films. It was especially cool to hear the directors (Argento,Craven,Deodato) speak for themselves. (DVD)
----------------------------------------------------
5th:
(1TV)19. The Supernaturals (1986)-Just okay. Odd to see two different Star Trek members (Uhura & La Forge) in this. (youtube)
(1TV)20. Deathstalker II (1987)-I feared I would get bored and annoyed by the tongue-in-cheek approach, it surprisingly didn't happen. Cool to see a blooper reel during the credits! (youtube)
(1TV)21. The Young Swingers (1963)-No, it's not an early kink film. Instead, It's an ol' rock'n'roll flick with the usual "We've got to save our club from being destroyed" plot. What makes it a little different is the diversity in genres: folk and R&B music. (DVR)
(1TV)22. Inn of a 1000 Sins (1975) -The first of many Bavarian Naughties I’m tackling. Mostly slow and dry compared to the hyperactive others I’ve seen. Maybe that makes this unique? (DVD)
----------------------------------------------------
6th:
(1TV)23. War of the Satellites (1958)-In honor of Corman's (Belated) birthday. Slightly complex than the usual sci-fi stuff we see from Corman. And it was cool to see Dick Miller playing the no-nonsense, stoic hero for once. (youtube)
(1TV)24. Reet, Petite, and Gone (1947)-Felt like checking out a "Race film". Some cute musical numbers throughout. Plus, I'm guessing this was the year the two-piece bathing suit was unleashed. (youtube)
(1TV)25. Little Miss Innocence (1973)-Bares some similarities with DEATH GAME and KNOCK KNOCK. Too bad about the "meh" ending. (youtube)
(1TV)26. Perversion Story (1969)-Even though Fulci's touch is hardly anywhere to be seen and despite not being fully invested with the story, this was still a stylish & beautiful-looking flick. (DVD)
----------------------------------------------------
7th:
(1TV)27. Feast of Flesh (1967)-I saw a little bit of this when I rented the NIGHT/BLOODY APES disc. Finally got to complete it. Sex, Drugs and a Masked maniac. B&W 60's South American style. What's not to like? Unfortunately the slasher scenes are far and few between.(youtube)
(1TV)28. The Erotic Circus (1969) aka "Orgy in the Psycho House" I should have hated this since nothing really happens until the end, but the short-running time seemed to prevent the hatred from happening. (youtube)
(1TV)29. Spellcaster (1988)-Ugh. These were the days when Italian horror had gotten REAL bad. (DVR)
(1TV)30. The Young Cycle Girls (1978)-Aside from the WTF ending and a completely annoying theme song, I still enjoyed this. I especially liked how quickly it seemed to go from PG to R! (youtube)
(1TV)31. Dude Bro Party Massacre III (2014)-Cute job with the "Taped-from-TV" idea & look, but I got really burnt out by it's humor rather quickly. (DVR)
(1TV)32. School for Sex (1969)-It did seem to have some charm in the early going, but ultimately becomes a dud. Now had it been made about 4 years later.... (YouTube)
----------------------------------------------------
8th:
(1TV)33. Planet Outlaws (1953)-Edited from the Buck Rogers serial. What makes this interesting is the intro/outro is meant to capitalize on Cold War fears! (youtube)
(1TV)34. The Night of the Strangler (1972)-Mickey Dolenz in a potboiler with a high bodycount. Comes close, but doesn't quite get there as a crowd-pleaser. (DVR)
(1TV)35. Wheels on Fire (1985)-Probably the most foulmouthed Apocalyptic flick you're ever likely to see. (youtube)
(1TV)36. Bat Pussy (1970--Maybe?)- Buddy: "Oh, Batwoman!" Sam:"Bat Pussy" Buddy:"Oh, Bat Pussy!" (CPU)
(1TV)37. We're Going To Eat You (1980)-More crazier than I thought it would be. Just throw in some kung fu, gore and SUSPIRIA music and I'm a happy camper! (DVD)
----------------------------------------------------
9th:
(1TV)38. Have You Ever Been on a Trip? (1970)-Softcore romp that takes place entirely in one living room. In between the sex is wine-drinking, pot-smoking and nude dancing. (CPU)
(1TV)39. Death Race 2 (2010)-There's only one race in this movie and it's near the end....Oh, come to find out this is a prequel to the first movie? Whatever. I just hope the 3rd one (Which I'm willing to watch) will be better. (DVR)
(1TV)40. Golden Queen's Commando (1982)-Great potential here with cool female characters, a blood-filled opening act, crazy anachronisms and a non-stop, Morricone-lifted music score. But interest fizzles halfway through and you're left wanting much, much more. (youtube)
----------------------------------------------------
10th:
(1TV)41. The Ribald Tales of Robin Hood (1969)-A little too serious than it should have been (If only Dave Friedman or Harry Novak got their hands on this) Still though, I wouldn't be surprised if this movie holds the record for most blouses being ripped off. (CPU)
(1TV)42. A Quiet Place (2018)-I admit to shedding a tear towards the end during an emotional moment. Isn't that what monster movies are supposed to do? (Theater)
(1TV)43.The Delinquents (1957)-One of the more realistic & harder-hitting of the 50's juvenile flicks I've seen. Probably because this was directed by Robert Altman. (DVR)
(1TV)44. Human Beasts (1980)-Paul Naschy in a part caper, part revenge, part giallo, part...Cannibal film? It isn't all executed quite well, but it does get points for some originality. (DVD)
45. Cannibal Holocaust (1980)-Watched on a livestream on Instagram. Despite the party atmosphere in these streams that I participate in, you still can't help but to remain mostly silent when watching this one. (Instagram)
----------------------------------------------------
11th:
(1TV)46. Penthouse Playgirls (1972)-The first of the Erwin C. Dietrich films I've watched this month. I wasn't able to spot a proper ending for this movie (A common problem with some of his films) but the trademark nudity is in full swing as usual. (CPU)
(1TV)47. The Day of the Wolves (1971)-RESERVOIR DOGS with beards! A lack of a hard edge and a bizarre ending might be a turn-off for some, but I had enough fun with it's low budget charm and (Quite) kickass soundtrack. Probably the best score I've yet to hear in this challenge. (youtube)
(1TV)48. The Fantastic Magic Baby (1975)-Even though it was nice to get away from the all-too serious wuxia films that I've recently watched from Shaw Brothers for some more goofy, fantasy material (From director Chang Cheh, no less) it's just that every kung fu movie I see that features "The Monkey King" just never seems to do it for me. This is the 3rd of those that I've seen. (DVR)
(1TV)49. Emmanuelle 5 (1987)-After reading about the multiple versions of this film online afterwards, It's too bad I didn't get to see any of the Director's cuts that Walerian Borowczyk was content with (I only saw the Corman version) (DVD)
----------------------------------------------------
12th:
(1TV)50. Striporama (1953)-Seemed to start off well (Burlesque comedy with a plot?) but the stand-up routines just go on for far too long. At least we see Bettie Page take a bubble bath. (YouTube)
(1TV)51. Valet Girls (1987)-One of those (Wonderfully 80's) movies where it feels like you see the same scene over and over again. Still didn't completely hate it, somehow. (DVR)
(1TV)52. What's in the Basket? (2012)-Felt like checking out the BASKET CASE documentary...Didn't know they would cover all three films though (I still haven't seen part 3 yet) (YouTube)
53. Liquid Sky (1982)-Felt like giving it a re-watch. Less of an oddity the last time and more of a comedy this time. (DVD)
(1TV)54. Racket Girls (1951)-Women's wrestling + racketeering. All the stuff with the ladies wrestling & training is okay. Everything else with the men is dull. (youtube)
----------------------------------------------------
13th:
(1TV)55. The Last Porno Flick (1974)-I might have been more hostile towards it had I not known that this was PG. Still though, I always have a soft spot for movies ABOUT making movies. (DVD)
(1TV)56. Twin Dragon Encounter (1986)-One thing's for sure, the McNamara brothers are no Barbarian brothers. Only thing worth checking out is the immortal theme song, "Right to Fight". (youtube)
(1TV)57. Mystery on Monster Island (1981)-Despite running a little longer than it should, it's still fun and dopey for the most part. Hard to believe that the director's next movie would be the legendary PIECES! (DVD)
(1TV)58. Baby Cat (1983)-After a day of PG movies, this was a breath of fresh air. I wouldn't mind seeing this receive a cleaned-up print from one of the (R1) cult/exploitation companies. (DVD)
----------------------------------------------------
14th:
(1TV)59. The Immoral Three (1975)-Just as sloppy the way so many other Doris Wishman films are, but I clearly had a bit more fun with this than plenty of others in her filmography. I also appreciated the "Healthy" women that were featured here. (CPU)
(1TV)60. Macon County Line (1974)-The main plot of the movie doesn't occur until the 70-minute mark. Prior to that, I had no idea what this movie was going for. I was real surprised to hear on how much of a huge hit this turned out to be afterwards. (DVR)
(1TV)61. Starhops (1978)-Never heard of this one before and took a gamble on it. Sadly, it didn't pay off. (youtube)
(1TV)62. Run, Virgin, Run (1970)-One of those types that are only saved by the nudity. (DVD)
63. The Deadliest Art: The Best of the Martial Arts Films (1992)-I didn't have a very strong day today, so I ended it off with a favorite that I haven't seen in a decade or so. This was the one that introduced me to Jackie and Sammo. And for that I'll always hold this one close to the heart. (youtube)
----------------------------------------------------
15th:
64. Blood Suckers (1970)-I didn't really like this the first time I saw it (More Action/Mystery/Thriller than Horror) but re-watching it with it's alternate title "Incense of the Damned" made me appreciate it more this time. (DVD)
(1TV)65. Dogs of Hell (1982)-I didn't spot a whole lot to make me like this...Aside from a few bloody deaths and a mud-wrestling match. (DVD)
66. Hobo With a Shotgun (2011)-Watched with the director's/writer's commentary. Cool to hear of some of the influences being mentioned. Biggest surprise to me was the Frog-Killer from MUPPET MOVIE as an inspiration for The Plague! (DVD)
(1TV)67. Women in Revolt (1971)-This just might be my most favorite (Non-Horror) film from Morrissey! I loved Jackie Curtis so much here! (DVD)
(1TV)68. Girl in Gold Boots (1968)-Weak conclusion, but this had a groovy feeling throughout that I really liked. Still though, DOLL SQUAD is still the one to beat (For me) when it comes to Mikels' films. (youtube)
(1TV)69. It Conquered Hollywood! The Story of American International Pictures (2001)-I would've liked to have heard more of Nicholson/Arkoff's background before getting rushed into becoming moguls (As well as some mention of the Poe films) but enough info for the other AIP genres get a good amount of love. Never knew that Walt Disney was bitter at them for putting Annette Funicello in a bikini (youtube)
----------------------------------------------------
16th:
(1TV)70. The Vampire Happening (1971)-Pretty fun horror comedy. More boobage than expected! (youtube)
(1TV)71. Superstarlet A.D. (2000)-It might not be everyone's cup of tea (It has some musical numbers, for one thing) but if you want to see alt/burlesque girls in a B&W futuristic oddity, then this is for you! (youtube)
(1TV)72. The Day the Sky Exploded (1958)-Very rare to see a 50's Italian take on a disaster film (Involving worldwide doom) Too bad it's quickly forgettable. (youtube)
(1TV)73. Dark Measures (2012)-A painful DIY no-budget rape/revenge movie. The last one of these I'll see for the remainder of the month...Hell, forever. (DVD)
----------------------------------------------------
17th:
(1TV)74. The Cocktail Hostesses (1973)-Typical early/mid-70's softcore work from Steve Apostolof. But dare I say, "Hardly a dull moment?" (CPU)
(1TV)75. Beach Party (1963)-Though this was less annoyingly dumb than the other beach sequels that followed, this still felt like it was 3 hours long. (DVR)
(1TV)76. The Dead Are Alive (1972)-A promising start, but the movie stops dead in it's tracks and becomes a talk-fest. (youtube)
(1TV)77. Emmanuelle 6 (1988)-At a time when sexy films got less sexier, this one managed to show some signs of life. (DVD)
(1TV)78. D’Wild Wild Weng (1982)-Even if tends to get exhausting (An endless amount of henchmen getting killed. Plus the irritating moaning of a mute character) this is still, easily, the most epic film Weng Weng ever did! (youtube)
(1TV)79. A Woman’s Torment (1977)-Roberta Findlay's slasher-esque xxx film. I'm sure I would have liked it more if I saw a cleaned up print (CPU)
----------------------------------------------------
18th:
(1TV)80. The Satanist (1968)-A few good looking scenes throughout, but ultimately this works as a cure for insomnia. (CPU)
(1TV)81. Death Race: Inferno (2013)-(I guess) this would be my favorite of the trilogy. Thank god its over. BTW, it was strange seeing Danny Trejo playing someone called "Goldberg" (DVR)
(1TV)82. Les Demons (1973)-It starts out not looking too much different than a witchcraft or nunsploitation flick, but then Jess Franco's trademark oddness starts appearing towards the end (Involving a skeleton "Effect" and a not-too-prepared sword battle) Still though, this is one of the better films I've seen by him in some time. (CPU)
(1TV)83. Women on the run (1993)-Not a bad Hong Kong actioner, but I was expecting more CAT III nastiness. (DVD)
(1TV)84. Satanik (1968)-It's not about the creepy cult-Italian hero (Too bad) instead it's a James Bond-style flick with deranged old lady who takes a serum that makes her younger(?) It's action sequences and swingin' sixties-score managed to make it watchable. (youtube)
(1TV)85. The Bloody Brood (1959)-Peter Falk as a murderous beatnik. Another one of those 1-hour movies that feels a lot longer. (youtube)
----------------------------------------------------
19th:
(1TV)86. A Thousand Pleasures (1968)-I was expecting this to be the usual Findlay Roughie, but was glad to run into something more..Strange! (CPU)
(1TV)87. Naked Angels (1969)-Among the last of the 60's Biker Films that I've yet to see. And for the most part, this was a stand-out among the pack for me. (CPU)
(1TV)88. Lucifer's Women (1974)-Very slow-moving and not quite pure horror, but I was still into this all the way through. I blame Svengali's hypnosis for giving this a positive reaction! (Blu Ray)
(1TV)89. No Way Back (1976)-Despite the horrid transfer I saw, I found this to be the most entertaining of Fred Williamson's "Jesse Crowder" movies. (youtube)
(1TV)90. Hell Squad (1986)-It is what it is. But something tells me I would've liked this more if I were able to tell the Squad-members apart. (DVD)
(1TV)91. The Affairs of Aphrodite (1970)-Mostly good to watch just for the lovably bad dialogue & line delivery...Oh, and Antoinette Maynard (As the lead) isn't so bad to look at. (CPU)
----------------------------------------------------
20th:
92. Race With The Devil (1975)-Felt like giving this one a revisit. Still remains as one of the better horror/action/thrillers out there. Thanks to Fonda & Oates (One of my favorite duos) and some great stuntwork near the end. (DVR)
(1TV)93. Sexual Freedom in Denmark (1970)-At last, I finally got to see the "Dirty Movie" that Travis made Betsy watch in TAXI DRIVER! (CPU)
(1TV)94. Blastfighter (1984)-The nagging daughter almost completely ruined the movie for me, but the explosive conclusion seemed to have redeemed that problem (youtube)
(1TV)95. The Princess and the Call Girl (1984)-I've never been the biggest fan of Radley Metzger's work, but this was one of the more lively films I've seen by him. Cute performance by Carol Levy. (DVD)
(1TV)96. Psychedelic Sex Kicks (1967)-A 420 pick of mine. Things don't get interesting til the end...When the drugs kick in. (CPU)
97. The Ultimate Degenerate-I was on a SWV kick and felt like re-visiting this classic. I really couldn't believe how beautiful the photography in this movie actually is! (DVD)
----------------------------------------------------
21st:
98. Bloodsucking Freaks (1976)-I feel as if I watch this one every challenge I watched the "Sardu, Master of the Screaming Virgins" cut. More and more, this becomes a masterpiece every time I see it. (Blu Ray)
(1TV)99. The Bride's Initiation (1976)-I had previously only seen the heavily-edited "Dracula and The Dirty Old Witch" version. This joins the elite of 70's hardcore horror follies. (CPU)
(1TV)100. Apocalypse Mercenaries (1987)-One of those quickly forgettable Italian WWII extravaganzas. (DVD)
(1TV)101. American Satan (2017)-Mostly a traditional "Selling-your-soul" tale. The 2nd half stays juicy enough to keep things from becoming too predictable. (CPU)
(1TV)102. I am a Groupie (1970)-I feared this movie would bare too much of a resemblance to my previous "Perils-of-Music-Industry" film, but unlike the trappings of that film, this one beautifully let out a climax that only the (Late) 60s/(Early) 70s would ever do!
103. Alice in Acidland (1969-Far less of a psychedelic trip than I remembered the first time. Still worth tripping off of though. (DVD)
----------------------------------------------------
22nd:
(1TV)104. Fuzz (1970)-One of those early half-hardcore, half-softcore flicks. Warning: Uschi Digard is caught on camera giving a softcore secret! (CPU)
(1TV)105. Caged Women (1991)-Contains a slo-mo catfight on a lake. Need I say more? (CPU)
(1TV)106. Afganistan - The last war bus (1989)-Some GQ-looking guy is dropped into Afghanistan for a mission. At least Bobby (DEMONS) Rhodes shows up to liven the party. (DVD)
107. Rabid (1977)-Havent seen this in a while and felt like checking it out. I still prefer SHIVERS when it comes to early Cronenberg-Horror, but this is still solid. Btw, I kept thinking Marilyn Chambers was Jamie Lee Curtis on a few occasions. (DVR)
(1TV)108. Memorial Valley Massacre (1989)-It didn't end the way I expected it to (Sequel, anybody?) worth seeing (And laughing at) for a different type of slasher. (DVD)
(1TV)109. Terrifying Girls' High School: Delinquent Convulsion Group (1973)-A little more politically-driven than expected, but since it's been so long since I've watched a new Pinky Violence film, I still ended up having such a great time. (CPU)
----------------------------------------------------
23rd:
(1TV)110. Mistress of the Apes (1979)-Ever wonder how an Italian Cannibal movie would look if it were directed by Larry Buchanan? Look no further! (youtube)
(1TV)111. A Hard Way to Die (1979)-This would make an excellent double-feature with THE FIGHTING FISTS OF SHANGHAI JOE. Contains the most awesome dubbing I've heard all month! (And some good fight choreography as well)
112. Terror (1979)-Kind of an overlooked supernatural slasher if you ask me. The British flavor makes it refreshing. Plus I'm always a sucker for movies within movies. (DVD)
(1TV)113. Illicit Desires (2017)-Skinemax Time. But you know things are bad when you’re fast-forwarding the sex scene and giving attention to plot & dialogue. (DVR)
----------------------------------------------------
24th:
114. Goth (2003)-As with the other movies I've re-watched this month, yet another I've liked more on a 2nd viewing. And to be fair, I've seen MUCH worse no-budget movies than this. (DVD)
(1TV)115. Sex and the Other Woman (1972)-Another sexy 70's Brit comedy (I had no idea how many of these were made!) and this is another told in vignettes. Not quite as humorous as others, but still decent. (DVD)
116. Fascination (1979)-I initially thought of this as one of the weaker Rollin films, but again, what a difference a re-watch makes. (DVD)
(1TV)117. Mrs. Stone's Thing (1970)-Much of the movie is one big party/orgy. Which contains parrots, Ed wood in drag, Obese lovemakers, and monkeys. What's not to love? (CPU)
(1TV)118. The Headless Ghost (1959)-Aside from a nice little dance sequence, nothing much else to see here. (youtube)
----------------------------------------------------
25th:
119. Flying Saucers Over Hollywood: The 'Plan 9' Companion (1992)-I saw this before but hardly remember it. Though it's got it's dated aspects, it's still super informative. (youtube)
(1TV)120. Kong Island (1968)-Lots of endless shots of people roaming through a jungle. At least it had a cool 60's score. (youtube)
(1TV)121. Kung Fu From Beyond The Grave (1982)-Even though the first half was much better than the second half, I still found this to be a great deal of fun. (DVD)
(1TV)122. Unknown World (1951)-Early "Voyage-to-the-center-of-the-earth" type flick. And another 70-minute film that felt like it was 2 hours. (youtube)
----------------------------------------------------
26th:
(1TV)123. Olga's House of Shame (1964)-I thought I had seen all the Olga movies, but nope, there was this one and "Massage Parlor" left. Anyways, Madame Olga seems less sadistic in this one. Resulting in being less memorable as far as the series goes. (youtube)
(1TV)124. Cyclone (1978)-Leave it to Rene Cardona for making another movie that has to be unnecessarily long. Shark-attacks are advertised in the movie, but they're barely there. (DVD)
----------------------------------------------------
27th:
(1TV)125. Steel and Lace (199)-Rape/Revenge movie...Involving a robot! Decent practical FX, but nothing much else. (DVR)
(1TV)126. Atlas in the Land of the Cyclops (1961)-The Cyclops doesn't even show up until the very end...All thanks to the English-changed title! (DVD)
(1TV)127. The Student Body (1976)-Starts out like a regular sex comedy, but gets very dark & twisted halfway. Look for an appearance by a young Holmes Osborne! (youtube)
----------------------------------------------------
28th:
(1TV)128. Hollywood Rated ‘R’ (1997)-Exploitation documentary (From France) that mostly covers the same grounds we're familiar with. I was just glad of the inclusion of Johnny Legend and the mentions of the Psychadelic subgenre. (youtube)
(1TV)129. For Love and Money (1967)-Sexploitation sting-operation flick. It gets monotonous really fast (Especially with that dang soundtrack) but at least I finally got to hear what (Pinup Legend) Michelle Angelo's voice sounds like! (CPU)
(1TV)130. Lost, Lonely and Vicious (1958)-I thought this was a 50's Juvenile flick, but it's about an unhappy Hollywood actor. Nothing to see here except a few laughable fight sequences. (youtube)
(1TV)131. Hero and the Terror (1988)-ZZzzzzz. The most boring Chuck Norris movie you'll ever see. (DVR)
(1TV)132. Wolf Guy (1975)-Pretty much worth the hype (Thought I was expecting traditional werewolf references) Loved all the gory moments! And one of the funkiest scores I've heard all month! (Blu Ray)
----------------------------------------------------
29th:
(1TV)133. This is America (1977)-Decent mondo-movie set in America. Not as staged and not as off-putting as others..Thankfully (CPU)
(1TV)134. The Galaxy Invader (1985)-Good ol' sci-fi cheesiness from Don Dohler. I admit, I kinda missed this guy's work throughout the month! (DVD)
(1TV)135. Adam and Eve (1983)-The beginning & ending felt like a serious film. The middle felt like a wild, anything-goes crap fest. I give points to the romantic theme song, however. I loved hearing that pop up throughout the movie. (youtube)
(1TV)136. Convoy Busters (1978)-I can't recall ever being blown away by any Maurizio Merli movie I've seen. This just ended up being another basic movie to me. (DVD)
----------------------------------------------------
31st:
(1TV)137. Hollywood Babylon (1972)-Re-enactments of sex scandals from the early days of Hollywood. There's some decent charm throughout. Good casting decision on Fatty Arbuckle! (CPU)
(1TV)138. Kung Fu Zombie (1981)-It didn't get cool until the climax. (DVD)
(1TV)139. Naked Vengeance (1985)-Long build-up...Heck, it just felt like a long movie overall. But there's still a good-enough payoff to this rape/revenge flick. (youtube)
(1TV)140. I Like The Girls Who Do (1973)-The copy I saw had terrible audio. But who am I kidding? I really watched this for the visuals. And it certainly delivered there. (DVD)
----------------------------------------------------

DVD unless otherwise noted

March 31
01. The Million Eyes of Su Muru (1967)* Blu-Ray
A woman builds an army of women on an island stronghold in order to take control of the world from men. British and American agents try to stop her. A bit of a spoof of spy movies has an interesting cast, with Shirley Eaton obviously relishing her part as the evil Su Muru. Otherwise there's nothing really special here but nothing really awful either. 5/10
02. The Girl from Rio (1969)* Blu-Ray
Shirley Eaton returns as the evil Su Muru (or Sumitra in the credits), this time as the ruler of the all woman city of Femina and gathering wealth so she can enslave all men. A little sexier, more exciting, stranger, more stylish, and with more sci-fi than the first but also with a duller hero and a less defined plot. 5.5/10
Also watched a 14 minute short with interviews with director Jess Franco, producer Harry Alan Towers, and star Shirley Eaton.

03. The Jigsaw Murders (1989)* Blu-Ray
A worn out police detective and his younger partner try to track down the killer who is leaving parts of his victim all around Los Angeles. Standard stuff but well done with good performances and more of an emphasis on police procedures than who the killer is. Could have used a little more sleaze. 6/10

April 1
04. The Sky Dragon (1949)* (Warner Archive Collection Charlie Chan 3-File Collection)
Charlie Chan and his number one son investigate a murder that took place on a airliner they were on while all the passengers and crew were apparently drugged. Possibly the best of the Roland Winter Chan films with a good B-movie cast including Noel Neill, Wilbur Stone, and Lyle Talbot. The mystery was decent and there wasn't the usual padding. 6.5/10
05. The Falcon's Brother (1942)* (Warner Archive Collection The Falcon Mystery Movie Collection Volume 1)
The Falcon's brother is reported dead on an ocean liner but when Gay Lawrence investigate he discovers that the corpse is not his brother. I continue to like the Falcon movies more and more. This one marks the transition of the starring role from George Sanders to Tom Conway and is a good if convoluted mystery as well. 6.5/10
06. The Man From Hong Kong (1975)* Blu-Ray
A police inspector from Hong Kong goes to Australia on an extradition matter but when his prisoner is killed he decides to take on the biggest crime lord in Sydney and leaves a trail of mayhem and destruction. Action packed movie starring Jimmy Wang Yu has helicopters, hang gliding, and an occasionally funky score seasoned with just a little bit of nudity. Some of the fights and chases tend to go on a little too long but overall a bunch of fun. 7/10

April 2
07. Master of the Flying Guillotine (1976)*
After his disciples are killed by a one armed fighter, a white haired expert with the flying guillotine vows to kill every one armed man he finds and he chooses to start at an open martial arts tournament. Good stuff. Much of the movie is the tournament which allows for many short fights with various weapons and styles and introduces the three foreigners who will help the assassin. The final battle between the one armed boxer and the master is great. 8/10

April 3
08. Beach of the War Gods (1973)* (The Jimmy Wang Yu Collection)
A warrior organizes a fishing village and gathers outside help to fight off a Japanese invasion force that has been terrorizing the Chinese coast. Another great movie directed by and starring Jimmy Wang Yu. There are some wonderful visuals, interesting outdoor locations, and a strong story line. Most of the fights are large scale battles which are well done but I don't find quite as interesting as one on one fights like in Master of the Flying Guillotine. 7.5/10

April 4
09. Dracula vs. Frankenstein (1971)*
Dracula contacts the last living descendant of Dr. Frankenstein, who runs a carney creature show, so he can revive the monster. Meanwhile a Vegas singer searches for her lost sister in Venice, California. The Frankenstein monster looks like the early Hammer version while the white faced, goateed Dracula takes a little getting used to but ends up working pretty well. The dialog verges on silly or incomprehensible at times but the good cast does their best to play it straight. Al Adamson directed. 5.5/10
10. Killer Workout (1987)*
David A. Prior directed film about a series of killings that take place in and around a gym which features aerobic workouts. Not a good movie but so much fun. Killings, body bags, aerobics, repeat. The body count is so high that at one point they don't even have time to show the kills only the bodies. Who knew hot women in sexy aerobic suits could be so fascinating? Often insane. Always delightful. 6/10

April 5
11. Moonshine County Express (1977)* Blu-Ray
A stock car driver who also runs moonshine comes to the aid of the three beautiful daughters of a moonshiner who was gunned down by his competitor, a powerful local boss. A whole bunch of fun with a great finger picking soundtrack, some good car chases and a strong cast of B-movie favorites all of who do a great job. Especially fine are John Saxon as the driver and William Conrad as the big boss both of whom maintain Hollywood style southern accents. Claudia Jennings also has a good role. 7/10
12. Anatomy of a Psycho (1961)*
A teenager starts to become unhinged when the brother who raised him is executed for murder and he begins indirect attacks against those he feels were responsible for the conviction and with each act of vengeance he becomes more and more unstable. Surprisingly good. The acting isn't great but for the most part it's adequate and Darrell Howe does a good job as the teenager. The story is interesting and the outdoor locations are effective. 5/10
13. The Lonely Sex (1959)*
A deeply disturbed man finds no help from anyone around him and ends up killing and kidnapping as he spins out of control. Very low budget with amateur acting and poorly dubbed dialogue. At first I thought this was just cheap and sleazy but I eventually got drawn into the story and despite all the flaws this turned out to be a pretty interesting if bizarre movie. 5/10

April 6
14. Bloodfist III: Forced to Fight (1992)* (Dragon Pack)
Don "The Dragon" Wilson plays a prison inmate who is transferred to the tough cell block after killing another prisoner while defending a friend. Richard Roundtree adds some style to this very entertaining movie. Plot is as important as the fights and although Wilson still can't act very well he seems to be getting better. 7/10
15. Stunt Rock (1979)* (On The Man From Hong Kong disc)
An Australian stunt man goes to America to work on a TV show and also hangs out with his cousin's rock band. The stunt man (Grant Page) is real as is the rock band (Sorcery) and a paper thin plot allows for lots of stunts and concert footage along with some musing about why stunt people do what they do. Very good movie kind of exhilarating by the time it's over. 7/10
16. The Electric Chair (1976)* Blu-Ray
A preacher with a frigid wife and a local woman whose husband is a fat slob have an affair and end up brutally murdered. The rest of the movie is about finding and executing the killer. Low budget movie filmed in North and South Carolina is full of tedious stretches especially in the last half of the film. There were three nice touches, one a plot twist that had me surprised and kept the rating from going any lower. 4/10

April 7
17. On Top of Old Smoky (1953)* (Gene Autry Collection 2)
Gene Autry helps the pretty young owner of toll road fight off attempts to buy her out. Gene sings the title song and a couple of others. Not the best Autry film or the most action packed but very easy to watch. 5/10
18. Dolemite (1975)* Blu-Ray
Dolemite, a pimp who was framed for theft and drugs, is let out of prison to help clean up the corruption in the 4th ward and find out who the big man is while getting revenge on those who framed him. Technically not a well made movie, it's still very appealing with humor, a good amount of nudity, lots of off color language, and call girls trained in martial arts. Rudy Ray Moore is fun as Dolemite. 6/10
19. Yor, the Hunter from the Future (1983)* Blu-Ray
Yor, hunky blond caveman saves an old man and a hot cavebabe from a dinosaur attack and a raid from a rival tribe which leads to Yor discovering the secret of his strange amulet. Tasty bit of 80's cheese directed by Antonio Margheriti but with a lot of filming done in Turkey. Filled with stiff dinosaurs, strange tribes, and a predictable plot the best part is the Yor theme song that opens the film and pops up now and then when Yor goes into action. Fun. 6/10

April 8
20. The Falcon Strikes Back (1943)* (Warner Archive Collection The Falcon Mystery Movie Collection Volume 1)
The Falcon is framed for a war bond theft and to clear himself investigates a vacation hotel just full of suspicious characters. Tom Conway's first full outing as The Falcon has a good story but he lacks a little of the panache that George Sanders brought to the role. 5/10
21. Dial Red O (1955)* (Warner Archive Collection Bill Elliott Detective Mysteries)
A WW2 and Korean War vet escapes from a psychiatric hospital and shortly afterward his wife, who just divorced him, is found murdered. Western star Wild Bill Elliott (a peaceable man) moves to the mean streets of LA as a detective with the LA Sheriff's office. Not a mystery, since the viewer knows who did it, and more of a police procedural although much of the film is spent on the war vet. 6/10
22. Paper Bullets (1941)* (Sinister Cinema Poverty Row Studio Collection PRC Vol.1)
A woman who takes a manslaughter rap for a spoiled playboy takes revenge on the kid's reformer father by forcing him to help a criminal syndicate. Well done crime drama goes in directions I didn't expect and has some good performances particularly lead Joan Woodbury. Nice role for Alan Ladd just a short time before he made it big. 6.5/10
23. Kung Fu Fever (1979)* (Mill Creek Martial Arts 20 Movie Pack Disc 1)
Shortly after Bruce Lee dies, the search is on for a book he wrote about his finger techniques. Lots of fights but the same two bad guys get beat up too often. Dragon Lee makes a good Bruce Lee clone copying mannerisms and the fight vocalizations. The final battle is good but the movie as a whole is a little repetitive and the image is fuzzy. 5/10
24. Kung Fu - The Invisible Fist (1972)* (Mill Creek Martial Arts 20 Movie Pack Disc 1)
Shortly before Japan invaded China in the early 1930's two military men are sent to Shanghai to infiltrate a slave operation but also find Japanese spies working with the gang. A good plot with interesting characters and well spaced fights lead up to a great final battle between the hero (Chan Sing) and the head Japanese spy (Yasuaki Kurata). Clear image but cropped on both sides. 7/10

April 9
25. Sinner's Blood (1969)*
After their mother dies, two young women, one a slut and the other reserved, go to live with their aunt and uncle in a small town. Things do not go well. Sex, violence, and sleaze with a story that never really focuses and that's before the lame bikers hit town to disrupt a church social or the LSD trip. Kind of a mess but you can't take your eyes off it. 6/10
26. Riot on 42nd St. (1987)* (Code Red Double Feature)
A guy gets out of prison and returns to his old stomping ground on 42nd St. to reopen the nightclub he ran with his father. This ticks off the guy across the street who runs a sex parlor. There's kind of a big fight and then a riot starts. The end. Pretty bad. There's some sleaze and a good deal of nudity. The actors show almost no emotion, especially the female lead who floats around with a blank expression on her face all the time. The final fight is one of the most inept action sequences ever. The riot is laughable. Lame but not boring so fun to watch. Directed by Tim Kincaid. 4/10
27. Bad Girls Dormitory (1986)* (Code Red Double Feature)
A slice of life movie set in a female juvenile detention center in New York City. A bunch of sexual encounters between various combinations of inmates and staff culminate in some poorly done action and a meaningful final scene. The usual female warden, lusty guards and pervy medical staff. Another Tim Kincaid film. You just can't look away and feel both entertained and like you need a shower when it's over. 4.5/10

April 10
28. Hercules (1958)* (Retromedia Hercules Collection)
Hercules agrees to help the son of a king learn the art of war but after the boy is killed Hercules must make amends and then joins in the search for the Golden Fleece. Very good epic and Steve Reeves looks just about perfect as Hercules. Several nifty feats of strength, just about the right ratio of court intrigue to adventure and a monster that sounds like Godzilla. 7/10
29. Giants of Rome (1964)* (Retromedia Hercules Collection)
Julius Caesar sends four tough Legionnaires to destroy the Druid secret weapon which commands a mountain pass that he needs to use to launch a surprise attack against the Gauls. Pretty good commando mission type story. Not at all like your typcial Hercules movie. 6/10
30. Drive-In Massacre (1976)* Blu-Ray
Two police detectives try to find out who is using a sword to kill patrons of a drive-in movie theater. Low budget but entertaining. The kills are bloody and the scenes with the couples just before they get killed are fun. Acting is as expected but oh those scenes of the drive-in itself! 5/10

April 11
31. Night Wars (1988)* Streaming Amazon
Two Vietnam vets begin having similar dreams about their escape from a POW camp when they had to abandon another soldier and what happens to them in the dreams happens to them in real life. Calling Freddy Krueger? Decent action and kind of a tricky ending. Directed by David A. Prior. 5/10
32. The Firing Line (1988)* (Mill Creek Drive-In Movie Classics 50 Movie Pack)
An American military advisor (Reb Brown) and a women he picks up (Shannon Tweed) have to go on the run for reasons that aren't totally clear and end up joining the rebels that the advisor was sent to fight. And that really is all of the plot. The rest of the film is mindless action scenes which have lots of shooting and explosions but get tiresome. 4/10
33. Treasure of Tayopa (1974)* (Mill Creek Drive-In Movie Classics 50 Movie Pack)
Four people search the Mexican desert for the lost mine of Tayopa but two of the party (including the party psycho) kill three locals and a fourth begins to pursue them bent on revenge. Strange film has lots of narration and lots of long traveling scenes with just a song or music. Gilbert Roland, drink in hand, does short nonsensical narrations at the beginning and end. The rest is by the actors. Starts out as laughable crap with bad acting and a poor script but eventually I got sucked into this tale of survival and betrayal, even though the faults don't improve. 6/10

April 12
34. Grindhouse Trailer Classics (2014)* (Intervision)
First half about 62 minutes.
35. Red Planet Mars (1952) VHS
A scientist establishes radio contact with Mars and the information he receives changes the world. Very good sociological science fiction. I'm not convinced that things would really go this way but the film is very absorbing and even better than I remembered. 7/10
36. Bigfoot (2012)* Blu-Ray
Super sized Bigfoot (or maybe a mini Kong) disrupts a rock festival and continues causing mayhem on it's way to Mount Rushmore. Stale monster disrupts event plot is saved by a good dose of effective humor and stars Danny Bonaduce and Barry Williams as bickering former partners. The Bigfoot effects are mediocre but the constantly feeding beast is amusing. 5/10

April 13
37. Grindhouse Trailer Classics (2014)* (Intervision)
Second half about 66 minutes.
38. The New Barbarians aka Warriors of the Wasteland (1983)* (Media Blasters Post Apocalyptic Triple Feature)
After a nuclear war, a loner, Scorpion, and a couple of friends take on The Templars, a group of marauders that want to destroy all of mankind to purify the earth. The action is OK with lots of car fights, blood, and explosions but some of the designs are silly. Scorpion's car and Fred Williamson's costume are particularly ridiculous and some other stuff isn't far behind. 5/10
39. The Young Nurses (1973)* (Roger Corman's Cult Classics The Nurses Collection)
The private and professional lives of three beautiful nurses: one gets involved with the son of a wealthy man; one tries the find the source of a new street drug; one gets in trouble by exceeding her authority. All three stories are bland. Some nice bodies but no excitement. 4.5/10

April 14
40. Blackhawk (1952) Chapters 1-3 58+ minutes
1)Distress Call From Space 2)Blackhawk Traps a Traitor! 3)In the Enemy's Hideout
The Blackhawks, a team of pilots working out of a hidden desert HQ, battle a group of saboteurs, origin unspecified but every kid in the 1950's knew they were commies!

41. The Old Barn Dance (1938)* (Gene Autry Collection 4)
Gene Autry and his partners are horse traders who find that tractors are replacing horses on farms and have to deal with unscrupulous company officials. Pleasant Autry western has way more songs than action but it's well done and things pick up in the second half. 5/10
42. Days of Jesse James (1939)* (Roan Group Roy Rogers Collection 1)
Lawman Roy Rogers is sent by the bankers association to track down Jesse James for robbing a bank and to recover the loot. Good western with my favorite western sidekick, Gabby Hayes. 5/10
43. Tequila Joe (1968)* (DF Wild East)
An alcohol soaked sheriff gets a new, young deputy who begins to take care of the feud that has been destroying the town. Pretty good but a little bland with no bizarre characters, almost a character study of the sheriff. 5/10
44. A Hole Between the Eyes (1968)* (DF Wild East)
A wandering gunslinger tries to get the pieces of a map that will show the location of a big cache of gold. Of course there are several others after these as well. The plot is more complicated and the characters are more flamboyant than Tequila Joe. 5.5/10

April 15
45. The Falcon in Danger (1943)* (Warner Archive Collection The Falcon Mystery Movie Collection Volume 1)
After a passenger plane crashes while landing with no one aboard, The Falcon gets involved in the search for a missing industrialist and his aid. Good plot but the annoying fiancee angle is back again. 5/10
46. Sudden Danger (1955)* (Warner Archive Collection Bill Elliott Detective Mysteries)
A blind man's mother is found dead, an apparent suicide, but Detective Doyle suspects it was murder and the son was responsible. Strong story with a good cast. Bill Elliot does well as a persistent but pleasant detective. 6/10
47. The Black Raven (1943) (Sinister Cinema Poverty Row Studio Collection PRC Vol.1)
It was a dark and stormy night and at an inn named The Black Raven sinister deeds take place as travelers with secrets take refuge from the storm. OK Old Dark House story has a familiar cast including Charlie Middleton as a rather dim sheriff, George Zucco as the owner of the inn and Glenn Strange providing comic relief. 5/10
48. Weekend Murders (1970)*
An English nobleman dies and as his family gathers at his estate for the reading of the will a series of murders begins and a local constable and a Scotland Yard detective try to figure out who did it. Shot in England by an Italian crew and director with a mix of English and Italian performers. Atypical giallo doesn't have elaborate set piece murders and also has lighter moments, especially in the interactions between the two police officers. 6.5/10
Also watched interview with actor Peter Baldwin.

April 16
49. Santo y Blue Demon contra el Dr. Frankenstein (1974)* (Santo and the Monsters Box Set)
Santo and his buddy The Blue Demon investigate the kidnapping of beautiful women who later return as zombies and slaughter their loved ones. A strong start but not as action packed, wild, or weird as some other Santo movies. The guy playing Dr. Irving (or Irwin) Frankenstein is good but overall the movie is a little disappointing. 4.5/10
50. Angels' Wild Women (1972)*
To avoid trouble, the female members of a biker gang are left behind when the men go to a beer soaked biker-fest. The women end up at a commune but run into trouble with the cult leader and his goons. One of Al Adamson's better efforts has good pacing and decent action. Not a whole lot of plot but with sex, fights, and choppers who cares? 6.5/10
51. The Zebra Force (1976)*
A group of white Vietnam vets disguise themselves as black men and, lead by their crippled former lieutenant, start stealing from the mob. The acting is often very flat but the action is good and the structure of the film, switching between the vets planning, the mob planning, and the helpless police, makes for an interesting time. 6.5/10

April 17
52. Cherry, Harry, & Raquel (1970)* (The Russ Meyer Collection R2)
A sheriff on the take gets orders from a regional drug lord to take out The Apache who is trying to set up his own business. He tries but the Apache strikes back. Mix of action and typical Russ Meyer women in an entertaining brew. 6/10
53. House on Bare Mountain (1962)* (SWV Monster Nudie Double Feature)
Nudie cutie has bare boobs and buttocks exercising, taking showers, going up and down stairs, and doing the twist among other things. Not as bad as some of these due to a stupid plot and dumb jokes that help pass the time. The narrator seems to be doing a Jonathan Winters imitation. 5/10
54. Angel's Wild Women commentary Samuel M. Sherman*
Good commentary covers how the movie came to be made and some details about Al Adamson's directing style, star Regina Carrol, and he discusses drive-ins and what they did for independent film production.

April 18
55. Blackhawk (1952) Chapters 4-7 61 minutes
4) The Iron Monster 5)Human Targets 6)Blackhawk's Leap for Lift 7)Mystery Fuel
The Blackhawks recover a kidnapped scientist and his death ray while dodging trains, the death ray twice, and burning oil derricks.

56. Mondo Balordo (1964)*
Boris Karloff narrates the English version of this Italian mondo movie and he's the best thing about it. It seems a little tame compared to others I've seen (but it's been a while). Also some things that might have shocked in 1964 (lesbians, transvestites) are more accepted today. Not my favorite kind of movie but Karloff helped. 4/10
Also watched Dwain Esper short Sinister Menace (193?) about drug addicts in Egypt. (15 min.)

57. SS Girls aka Private House of the SS (1977)* (SS Hell Pack Triple Feature)
Ten women are trained by the SS in basic combat techniques and in being able to make love to any man under any conditions in order to test high ranking generals who just may reveal disloyalty to Hitler during pillow talk. It works with the first bunch and then three more show up who the Nazis know they want to eliminate so I guess it's so they can have one more good time before they go. After than things get really strange with sweaty faced dramatic speeches increasing as the Russians draw near. Lots of nudity and enough nonsense to make it a good time. 6/10
Also watched short interview with director Bruno Mattei.

58. Malibu Express (1985)* (Bullets, Bombs and Babes: The Films of Andy Sidaris)
A private eye gets involved with illegal technology exports to Russia, murder, and blackmail and lots and lots of women. There's some OK action, a huge amount of nudity, and a convoluted resolution but the film goes way too long (105 min.). Still I was never totally bored. 5/10

April 19
59. High School Confidential (1958)* Blu-Ray
A tough punk transfers to a new school and tries to make a name for himself while looking for a drug supplier. Mainstream cautionary tale about the danger to our high schools with drug attitudes straight from Reefer Madness. Slickly made and had Jerry Lee Lewis doing a couple of tunes. 5/10
60. Alley Tramp (1968)* (SWV Trashy Teen Double Feature)
A teenage girl sees her parents making love and starts having sex with her third cousin and then with other men. The acting is awful all around and combined with a bad script and plot makes for many funny moments. There's a pickup scene in a bar that I thought was hilarious. Great ending. Truly so bad it's good. Directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis. 7/10
61. Over 18 ...And Ready! (1969)* (SWV Trashy Teen Double Feature)
Desperate to break into movies a young woman has to have sex with the director and his wifes, much to the dismay of her photographer boyfriend. Sleazy with more bad acting but not nearly as entertaining as Alley Tramp. A bit dull at times. 4/10
62. Muscle Beach Party (1964)* Blu-Ray
Frankie, Annette, and the gang head for the beach and have to contend with body builders and a beautiful countess that falls for Frankie. Typical Beach hokum so an easy pleasant watch. Luciana Paluzzi always looks great. The highlight though was the introduction of Little Stevie Wonder. 5/10

April 20
63. Up in Smoke (1978)* Streaming Amazon
Cheech and Chong meet, smoke dope, get deported to Mexico, and drive back to the US in a truck made of pot. The first ten or fifteen minutes had be laughing continuously. It doesn't stay that good but I got plenty of laughs throughout the film. 7/10
64. Budz House (2011)* Streaming Amazon
A bunch of stoners discover the world's best marijuana growing underneath one of their mother's houses and run into trouble with a couple of local drug lords. Another funny movie, not as good as Up in Smoke but I still got some laughs. 6/10
65. Judgment (2001)* Streaming Amazon
After The Rapture, while Lucifer is posing as the savior of the world, those who have converted to Christianity are considered terrorists and the world government decides to put one of the leaders on trial. Fourth and last movie of a series I started years ago. I remember liking them all and this one is also pretty good even if it doesn't wrap up the big arc. 6/10

April 21
66. Blue Montana Skies (1939)* (Gene Autry Collection 4)
Gene goes after some fur smugglers who killed his partner and are using a cattle ranch as a front. Good blend of action and tunes and there are some scenes in the snow (supposedly in Canada) that add a different feel to the movie. 6/10
67. Ninjas and Dragons (1984)*
A ninja goes to China searching for another ninja who betrayed the clan and killed his father and who goes around in a cool looking demon mask. Standard plot with some good action and a clever fighter who is actually three fighters of different sizes. 6/10
Also watched interview with Yukio Someno, assistant stunt director and ninja wrangler for the movie

68. The Way of the Dragon (1972)* (HKL Bruce Lee 30th Anniversary Commemorative Edition R2)
An unsophisticated boxer is sent to Rome to help his cousin with mobsters who want to buy her restaurant. Burce Lee in action is always a thing of beauty and he has a pleasant laid back acting style but this movie lacks a little something. The comedy at the beginning is a little painful and it takes a while for the action to start but once it does things improve a lot. 6.5/10
69. Slugs (1988)* Blu-Ray
Toxic waste spawned giant carnivorous slugs start feeding on the inhabitants of a New York town. High Ick Factor with more gore than is usual for this kind of movie. There's no build up for the viewer about what's going on and I missed that. The poor acting and script don't really matter that much, it's still plenty watchable. My favorite scenes involve a slug biting the hero's finger and the fire department ignoring a bunch of fires all over town and showing up where the main characters are but not a fire. 5/10

April 22
70. The Falcon and the Co-eds (1943)* (Warner Archive Collection The Falcon Mystery Movie Collection Volume 1)
The Falcon investigates a possible murder at a private all girls school. Tom Conway's best outing as The Falcon yet even if the story has a couple of holes in it. 6/10
71. Blackhawk (1952) Chapters 8-11 62 minutes
8) Blasted From the Sky 9) Blackhawk Tempts Fate 10) Chase for Element X 11) Forced Down
The Blackhawks try to recover Element X, a super fuel, while facing doom from a remote controlled flying disc, a leaking chemical pipe, a long fall, and burning cart full of hay!

72. Sudden Danger (1955)* (Warner Archive Collection Bill Elliott Detective Mysteries)
Detective Doyle is after the killer of a fellow police officer by a car bomb and the murder of a woman whose face was mutilated. Another strong entry has a good mystery and some interesting suspects. 6/10
73. The Marijuana Menace aka The Assassin of Youth (1938)* (Mill Creek Cult Classics 20 Movie Pack)
A reporter goes to a small town and poses as a soda jerk to get a story on the local marijuana ring. Lots of pot heads acting crazy and a few going insane. Not quite as over the top as some, although a pot induced murder is narrowly avoided, and there's a real story here. 5/10
74. The Bullet Train (1975)* Blu-Ray
In Japan, a bomb is placed on a bullet train so that it will go off if the speed of the train goes under 80 kph and the criminals demand five million dollars in US funds. A very good movie, perhaps better than Speed with much more interesting bad guys but there are just too many contrived plot twists to make the film totally satisfying. Sonny Chiba doesn't play as big a role as I had hoped. 7/10

April 23
75. The Beach Girls (1982)* (Mill Creek Too Cool For School Collection)
A bookish virgin (played by Debra Blee who has an insanely cute smile) loses her inhibitions thanks to two party-animal friends and a handsome wanderer. OK teen comedy has a subplot concerning a Coast Guard captain who imitates Bogey and is after some pot smugglers. 5/10
76. Cannibal Holocaust (1975)* Blu-Ray
An anthropology professor forms an expedition to discover the fate of four film makers who went into the heart of the Amazon to film a documentary on cannibals and returns with most of the footage that was shot. Well made film full of really disturbing scenes including lots of gore and the actual killing of animals. 7/10
77. Disco Godfather (1979)* Blu-Ray
A former cop now runs a disco but he returns to the streets after his nephew freaks out using Angel Dust. Kind of strange, starts out all disco-y then goes on a anti-drug crusade, flips into a lot of king fu fighting and ends with bizarre hallucinations that look like parts were done with crayons! 5/10

April 24
78. Cuban Rebel Girls aka Assault of the Rebel Girls (1959)* (VCI Positively No Refunds Vol, 2)
Errol Flynn (I guess playing himself) goes to Cuba to get an interview with Castro just before the rebels won. While there he also sends back other stories of the revolution, like this one about an American girl who joins the fight so she can be with her American boyfriend who's advising the rebels. Flynn doesn't have many scenes but does do a lot of narration in this low budget poorly acted movie. 4/10
79. Machete Maidens Unleashed (2010)*
Documentary about American exploitation films made in the Philippines takes a historical approach using Filipino directors as stepping stones. Very good. Lots of interviews with actors and staff results in some fun stories. 7/10
80. Bonus interviews (83 min.) and Filipino exploitation trailers (36 min.)* (Extras on Machete Maidens disc)
81. Pit Stop (1969)* Blu-Ray
A street racer enters the world of professional racing sponsored by an underhanded, uncaring promoter. Well made movie directed by Jack Hill has a good story and strong cast, Sid Haig is especially good as Hawk, an almost psychotic race car driver. 7.5/10

April 25
82. Fight for Your Life (1977)*
Three killers lead by a sadistic racist escape from a police van and end up taking a black family hostage in their home. Brutal and nasty with lots of racial slurs spewing forth from the white trash leader this isn't a pleasant movie to watch but despite the low budget it is absorbing. 6.5/10
83. Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973)*
A mute young woman is forced to become a heroin addict and then a prostitute. After some combat training, she starts to take her revenge. Almost an art film at times, interesting but a little slow moving and all the action scenes are in slow motion which gets a little old but is tolerable. I don't think the hard core scenes were necessary. 6/10
84. Live a Little, Love a Little (1968)* (4 Film Favorites Elvis Presley Musicals)
A good looking but persistent, self centered, insecure, and basically annoying woman latches on to Elvis and won't let go. Elvis, who is working two full time jobs, eventually falls for her. Poor Elvis. One good song in an otherwise bland and boring movie. I like some Elvis films but not this one. 3.5/10

April 26
85. Images in a Convent aka Immagini di un convento (1979)* (Media Blasters Nunsploitation: 4 Disc Collection)
A convent takes in a lusty countess to keep her out of the uncle's grasp but she is a bad influence on some of the sisters and soon demonic visions are seen. When an exorcism is performed carnal hell breaks loose. Incomprehensible ending. 5/10
86. Take Me Naked (1966)* (SWV A Michael and Roberta Findlay Double Feature)
A wino spends his time peeping at his lesbian neighbor across the alley dreaming that she is his one true love. Erotic poetry usually interpreted by almost naked women tell the story with a couple of interludes of bloody violence. Slow going most of the time and the soft and fuzzy images don't help at all. 3/10
87. Devil in Miss Jones (1973)
A woman commits suicide but since that is the only sin in her life she is allowed to go back and experience the sin of Lust. Hard core porn with a story. 6/10
88. Passion Plantation aka Emmanuelle bianca e nera (1976)* (Code Red Double Feature) Blu-Ray
In the old south the racist, horny daughter of a plantation owner (Emmanuelle the white) is engaged to the son of the neighboring plantation owner but once his life is saved by a slave (Judith Emmanuelle the black) he falls in love with the slave and believes that everyone deserves to be free. His father has a heart attack when learning of all this. Lots of boobs and bouncing, some whipping and torture, poorly acted but watchable. 4.5/10

April 27
89. Blackhawk (1952) Chapters 12-15 59 minutes
12) Drums of Doom 13) Blackhawk's Daring Plan 14) Blackhawk's Wild Ride 15) The Leader Unmasked
The Blackhawks break up the spy ring and recover Element X after facing death from an avalanche of oil drums, an exploding plane, an exploding car and and exploding shack. Pretty good serial. 6.5/10

90. Seytan (Turkish "Exorcist") (1974)* Streaming archive.org
According to the notes, a shot by shot remake of the original with the priests replaced by a psychologist and an Islamic cleric. Since there were no subtitles and I haven't seen the original in years I'll take their word for it. Not a bad watch. The makeup and effects were much less than the original but the actress playing the mother is very attractive which helped getting through some of the dialogue scenes. Not as much fun as, say, the Turkish Batman. 5/10
91. Monster Trucks (2017)* Streaming Amazon
A teenager finds an oil drinking creature in a junkyard, makes friends with it, and uses it to power his truck. After the first few minutes I thought I was going to hate this but by the end I was having a good time. It's predictable and often stupid but the creature is very well done and there is some charm to the whole thing. Financial bomb, #15 on Wikipedia list. 6/10

April 28
92. Battle Beneath the Earth (1967)* (WB Sci-Fi Double Feature)
A rogue Chinese general uses laser technology to tunnel beneath the Pacific to get to key spots in the United States and plant nuclear bombs. Silly stuff but everyone plays it straight and some of the underground stuff is pretty cool. 5/10
93. The Ultimate Warrior (1975)* (WB Sci-Fi Double Feature)
After an undefined disaster leads to plagues the world is divided into warring bands fighting for scarce food and water but one man has a plan to make earth fertile again. Yul Brynner plays the kind of guy that will stand like a statue for two days waiting for a job offer even though he need to move on to find his family. OK film takes place in 2012 and has some good scenes of a wrecked New York City and some fair action scenes. Not much excitement is generated though. 5/10
94. Robot Jox (1989)*
After a nuclear war, countries settle disputes using piloted giant robots which fight one on one. One of the pilots quits after civilians are hurt but may have to return to save the woman he loves. Really silly stuff and the special effects show their age a little. The hero doesn't seem to be all that great a pilot (he's supposed to be the best) since he gets beaten pretty fast in short robot fights. The ending is kind of stupid but it moves along at a good pace and is fun. 4.5/10
95. Untamed Women (1952)* (VCI Positively No Refunds Vol, 2)
During WW2 a bomber is shot down over the ocean and the surviving crew end up on a island inhabited only by beautiful women and prehistoric beasts (from other movies). Standard stuff but fun, I always like it when they have giant armadillos. 5/10
96. Sound of Horror (1966)* (Mill Creek 5 Movie Freak Fest)
Treasure hunters unleash an invisible monster that was trapped in a cave and some are soon found clawed to death. Spanish production is much better than I expected well directed and paced. The dubbing is OK and there are early appearances by Ingrid Pitt and Soledad Miranda. 6.5/10
97. Gamera: Super Monster (1980)* (Mill Creek Gamera Volume 2 Blu-Ray
Space pirates try to destroy the Earth using several monsters but Gamera comes to the rescue. Clips from previous films tied together with new footage influenced by Star Wars and Henshin (transforming) heroes. The new stuff is pretty lame but not much worse than a lot of the kid oriented stuff in other Gamera movies. The only one of the Showa Gamera series that I hadn't seen. 4.5/10

April 29
98. Chain of Evidence (1957)* (Warner Archive Collection Bill Elliott Detective Mysteries)
Lieutenant Doyle tries to prove that an ex-con with amnesia didn't commit a murder. This one drags a little as the crime is being set up but once Doyle gets on the case it picks right up. 5.5/10
99. Shake Hands with Murder (1944)* (Sinister Cinema Poverty Row Studio Collection PRC Vol.9)
A feisty woman and her partner in a bail-bond company help one of their clients prove that he's innocent of theft and murder. Which of the five board members is guilty? Pleasant B-movie with humor that isn't annoying and a decent cast. 5/10
100. The Chinese Boxer (1970)* (R3 DVD)
After his school is wiped out and his teacher is killed by Japanese Karate experts, one of the advanced students begins training to get revenge and save the area from the thugs. Jimmy Wang Yu stars and directed and Lo Lieh plays the head Karate guy. Story has equal value as fights but when they happen they are bloody affairs. A training sequence is short and interesting. Some nice cinematography. 6.5/10
101. Bloodfist IV: Die Trying (1992)* (Dragon Pack)
A repo man (Don "The Dragon" Wilson) accidentally gets involved in an illegal international arms deal which gets him accused of murder and gets his ten year old daughter kidnapped. OK entry. The action is not as varied as in some of the other films and the plot is confusing at times with many double agents involved. When it's all resolved, it doesn't really make sense. 5/10
102. House of Insane Women (1971)* (Code Red Double Feature) Blu-Ray
Spanish film about a doctor with progressive ideas about treatments taking over an asylum for insane women. He picks one patient to start working on, trying to discover the key to her madness, but meets resistance from all levels. Interesting movie. Not a standard horror film although the conditions depicted are certainly horrifying. 6/10

April 30
103. The Twilight People (1972)* (VCI Scream Theater)
An adventurer is captured while skin diving and taken to an island to be used in experiments to create a new breed of humans which are part animal. Standard plot with the obsessed scientist, his hormone charged beautiful daughter, and the sadistic foreman. Not much excitement generated although the animal people taking on the guards is kind of neat. Pam Grier has a small but meaty roll as the panther woman. 5/10
104. Alien Outlaw (1985)*
Three aliens packing six-guns land in the wilds of North Carolina to hunt human beings. Not a Predator rip off, this was made a couple years before. Features western star Lash LaRue in his last movie. Kind of slow with flat acting and directing and the aliens don't look all that good. I got a couple of chuckles at the end. 4.5/10
105. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2012)* Streaming Amazon
Ghost Rider and friends have to stop The Devil from taking over the body of the son of The Devil and becoming very powerful. Huh? Ghost Rider looks OK although not as good as I remember from the first movie and some of the action is OK but I didn't like the style of the movie with brief moments of sped up action for no reason at all, the camera swooping about for no reason at all, and too many quick cuts for almost no reason at all. 4/10
106. Biohazard (1985)* Blu-Ray
A creature from another dimension is transported to Earth by scientists conducting an experiment and goes on a murderous rampage. Low budget fun with a good deal of gore and a twist ending that comes out of left field but worked for me. 5/10
107. Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1991)* (Mystery Science Theater 3000: XXXIII)
Joel and the bots take on Earth Vs. The Spider, a Bert I. Gordon epic. Episode 313. Some good laughs in this one. I've seen the movie before but not the MST3K version.

Mr. Cellophane's 2018 Drive-In / Exploitation / B-Movie Challenge List

*= first time viewing
blue= personal BluRay
dark red= personal DVD
green= streaming
orange= theatrical presentation
purple= borrowed or rented BD/DVD

March 31st
1. Blonde Crazy (Roy Del Ruth, 1931 / United States / DVD)*
James Cagney and Joan Blondell play two hotel employees turned grifters. The film predates the Code and is full of sexy innuendo and unrepentant, unpunished crooks. It also takes a pretty cynical look at the upper crust. Included in Vol. 8 of the Forbidden Hollywood series.
--- Theatrical trailer

2. When Michael Calls (Philip Leacock, 1972 / United States / YouTube)*
ABC "Movie of the Week" that stars Ben Gazzara and Elizabeth Ashley as a divorced couple. She starts getting calls from Michael, a nephew who died fifteen years ago, and the caller starts threatening people who end up dead. Michael Douglas is on hand as the dead kid's brother. Heard about this from the Pure Cinema Podcast.
3. Night of Terror (Jeannot Szwarc, 1972 / United States / YouTube)*
ABC "Movie of the Week" that features Donna Mills as a teacher, Chuck Connors as the vicious killer after her, and Martin Balsam as the PI protecting her. It is an effective little thriller and succeeds mostly because Connors is terrifying. Anges Moorehead and Mary Grace Canfield have small roles.

April 1st
4. Guardian Angel (Richard W. Munchkin, 1994 / United States / AmazonPrime)*
Cynthia Rothrock plays a cop who quits after her fiancé is killed and becomes the bodyguard of a playboy (Daniel McVicar) with a murderous ex (Lydia Denier). There's a lot of bad police work, 90s pants, and martial arts action. Oh, one guy has his crotch lit on fire.
5. 'Sheba, Baby' (William Girdler, 1975 / United States)
Pam Grier plays Sheba Shayne, a detective on the warpath when her father is killed by a local mobster. Austin Stoker plays her love interest, and D'Urville Martin is an over-the-top baddies (definitely inspired Black Dynamite in that department). There's an arbitrary fight on a yacht.
--- FEATURETTES: "Sheldon, Baby": Interview with David Sheldon / "Pam Grier: The AIP Years"
--- Theatrical trailer

6. Jailhouse Rock (Richard Thorpe, 1957 / United States)*
Elvis Presley is Vince Everett, a guy who goes from prison to international stardom. Judy Tyler (who died before the film was released) is perfect as his business partner and love interest. The music set pieces are exhilarating, and Elvis's weird deadpan actually works here.
--- FEATURETTE: "The Scene that Stole Jailhouse Rock"
--- Theatrical trailer

7. Strangers May Kiss (George Fitzmaurice, 1931 / United States / DVD)*
Infidelity! Suicide! Melodrama! Hypocritical Gender Expectations! Norma Shearer plays a woman disillusioned with marriage. She messes around with a married journalist and bed-hops around Europe after getting her heart broken. Robert Montgomery plays her drunken, pining friend. Included in Vol. 8 of the Forbidden Hollywood series.

April 2nd
8. No Place to Hide (John Llewellyn Moxey, 1981 / United States / YouTube)*
CBS made-for-TV thriller starring Kathleen Beller as an art student harassed by a menacing figure. Her stepmother (Marietta Hartley) and new psychologist (Keir Dullea) don't know whether to believe her or not. Some twists and turns in this script by Jimmy Sangster. Learned about it from the Made-for-TV Mayhem podcast.
9. A Taste of Evil (John Llewellyn Moxey, 1971 / United States / YouTube)*
CBS made-for-TV thriller that was later recycled as No Place to Hide. Barbara Parkins plays a woman who was raped at thirteen and has returned home to be menaced by her past. Barbara Stanwyck grabs a paycheck between TV shows playing the main character's mother. Roddy McDowall plays a local doctor. It's not as good as the 1981 film.
10. Dick Tracy's G-Men: 1. "The Master Spy" / 2. "Captured" / 3. "The False Signal" (1939 / United States)*
Ralph Byrd returns as Detective Dick Tracy. This time he's leading a company of agents against the sinister Zarnoff (Irving Pichel), a spy set for execution who escapes by faking his own death. Tracy must thwart Zarnoff's plans to blow up a dam and kill a visiting dignitary. Jennifer Jones (as Phyllis Isley) plays Gwen, Tracy's dutiful secretary.
11. Doomwatch (Peter Sasdy, 1972 / United Kingdom)*
Peter Sasdy directs this eco-terror thriller about a government scientist (Ian Bannen) who visits a secluded island to study the effects of an oil spill. Once there, he finds out there is something fishy going on with the reclusive islanders. The cast of the BBC show is on hand to run experiments and make phone calls.
--- Introduction with Peter Sasdy

April 3rd
12. The House That Would Not Die (John Llewellyn Moxey, 1970 / United States / YouTube)*
Another made-for-TV movie starring Barbara Stanwyck! This time she plays a woman who inherits an old house and moves there with her niece (Kitty Winn). She quickly becomes enamored of her hunky neighbor (Richard Egan); however, both niece and neighbor start acting possessed after a seance. Stanwyck is great as ever!
13. Dick Tracy's G-Men: 4. "The Enemy Strikes" / 5. "Crack-up!" / 6. "Sunken Peril" / 7. "Tracking the Enemy" (1939 / United States)*
Dick Tracy takes to the sea and the air and then the sea again! He's got to thwart Zarnoff's attempts to highjack a shipment of gold on a train and to steal documents for foreign powers. There's some wonderful plane and train footage as well as a great diving suit that Tracy uses to go after some thugs.
14. Sworn to Justice (Paul Maslak, 1996 / United States / AmazonPrime)*
Cynthia Rothrock plays a psychologist who goes vigilante when her sister and nephew are murdered. After surviving a fall from her balcony and hitting her head, she ends up unlocking her psychic abilities and gets flashes when she touches certain items. Brad Dourif, Mako, and Walter Koenig show up for one or two scenes. A hunky soap star plays the love interest, and while sexy, he unfortunately wears unflattering white briefs.

April 4th
15. Death Car on the Freeway (Hal Needham, 1979 / United States / YouTube)*
A crazed driver is seeking out women driving on the freeway and forcing them into fatal wrecks. Shelley Hack plays an aspiring newscaster who pieces the story together. Of course, she becomes prey for the Freeway Fiddler (as the killer is dubbed). Lots of stunt work on this one. Peter Graves, Dinah Shore, and Barbara Rush round out the cast.
16. Akai hatoba (Red Pier) (Toshio Masuda, 1958 / Japan)*
Yûjirô Ishihara plays a contract killer who witnesses a gang murder and gets embroiled in a gangster noir. Other killers and the police are after him and those close to him. He falls for the dead man's sister (Mie Kitahara) which further complicates things. It's a stylish noir and Ishihara has the shades to prove it. Included in Vol. 1 of Nikkatsu Diamond Guys.

April 5th
17. Mazes and Monsters (Steven Hilliard Stern, 1982 / United States / AmazonPrime)*
Made-for-TV movie that capitalizes on the moral panic surrounding Dungeons & Dragons. Four college friends play a role-playing game, and one of them immerses himself a bit too much. It's a bumbling look at the dangers of games that feels silly and quaint today. Before they were famous: Tom Hanks and Wendy Crewson.
--- 60 Minutes segment on Dungeons & Dragons (1985)

18. Godzilla vs. Biollante (Kazuki Ohmori, 1989 / Japan)
Different corporations vie for Godzilla's cells and a biological weapon concocted from them. Corporate espionage antics end up waking up Godzilla. Meanwhile, a doctor reeling from the death of his daughter accidentally merges roses and Godzilla's cells into Biollante. The two monster fight! Lots of enjoyable miniature work.

April 7th
19. Jackie Brown (Quentin Tarantino, 1997 / United States)
Pam Grier plays a stewardess who illegally brings money into the country for Ordell (Samuel L. Jackson). She pairs with a bail bondsman (Robert Forster) to figure out a way to get money and get away. I won't say too much since this is a beloved film I'm sure y'all are familiar with. It's definitely my favorite Tarantino film and possibly my favorite Jackson performance.
--- "Chicks Who Loves Guns" videos / Siskel & Ebert At the Movies review

20. Pink Angels (Larry G. Brown, 1972 / United States / AmazonPrime)*
A group of gay bikers travel down the coast to go to a ball. They run into bigoted cops, a straight biker gang, a gaggle of prostitutes, and a lot more bare breasts then I was expecting. There's some attempts at commentary, and parts of the film feel like parodies of Easy Rider. It's a perplexing film.
21. Night of the Eagle (a.k.a. Burn, Witch, Burn) (Sidney Hayers, 1962 / United Kingdom / AmazonPrime)*
Peter Wyngarde plays a pragmatic professor who finds out that his wife (Janet Blair) has been using witchcraft to keep him safe and further his career. Disgusted, he makes her destroy her charms which leaves them open to evil forces. There's some wonderfully weird imagery. I really enjoyed it.

April 8th
22. Dick Tracy's G-Men: 8. "Chamber of Doom" / 9. "Flames of Jeopardy" / 10. "Crackling Fury" / 11. "Caverns of Peril" (1939 / United States)*
Dick Tracy must thwart plans to smuggle important documents to foreign powers. Then he must investigate stolen blueprints for a secret military bomber. Then he has to save an agent from a burning dirigible. THEN he has to go to a ghost town to smoke out the spy ring. He's very busy!
23. Multiple Maniacs (John Waters, 1970 / United States / DVD)*
Lady Divine presides over a group of deviants, fetishists, and freaks. Lately, she's gotten more and more murderous - to the chagrin of her boyfriend (David Lochary). As Divine descends into madness, her antics get more and more shocking, especially once she encounters Mink Stole at a church. I'll be honest, I absolutely loved this film!
--- Interviews with Pat Moran, Mink Stole, Susan Lowe, George Figgs, and Vincent Peranio / Video essay by scholar Gary Needham

24. Ninjas, Condors 13 (James Wu, 1987 / Hong Kong / AmazonPrime)*
Brian is a ninja. He doesn't want to be a ninja. The gang of bad ninjas he belongs to decides to eliminate him. Brian the ninja is joined by a black police officer and the boss's daughter. This is one of the least competent, hilarious movies I've seen in a long time. There are Blood Debts levels of silliness here.
25. Spider Baby or, the Maddest Story Ever Told (Jack Hill, 1967 / United States / AmazonPrime)*
Lon Chaney Jr. plays a chauffeur-turned-caretaker of a family of deranged children (Beverly Washburn, Jill Banner, Sid Haig). Their bizarre world is thrown into chaos when relatives and a lawyer descend on the ramshackle house. This is a wonderfully surreal film. It's ostensively a comedy, but there are a lot of truly horrific scenes.

April 9th
26. Wild Youth (a.k.a. Naked Youth) (John F. Schreyer, 1960 / United States / YouTube)*
A trio of juvenile delinquents (Steve Rowland, Robert Arthur, and Jan Brooks) go up against a murdering drug dealer (John Goddard) when they hitchhike near the Mexican border. Carol Ohmart is on hand of the dealer's junkie cohort. This may be the first film of this sort I've seen in which the delinquents meet their match. It's fun but that's about it.
27. The Sadist (a.k.a. Profile of Terror) (John Landis, 1963 / United States / YouTube)*
Three teachers (Richard Alden, Don Russell, and Helen Hovey) stop at a junkyard to address car trouble and run into a the titular sadist (Arch Hall Jr.) and his giggling girlfriend (Marilyn Manning). They have been on a murderous rampage and torment the unfortunate trio. This movie is AMAZING! It kept me in suspense until the very end. I would love to see it get a good BD release.
28. Gitaa o motta wataridori (The Rambling Guitarist) (Buichi Saitô, 1959 / Japan)*
A wanderer (Akira Kobayashi) comes into town and quickly catches the eye of a local mobster (Nobuo Kaneko). He gets involved in the mobster's schemes and falls for his beautiful daughter (Ruriko Asaoka). The lead is appropriately enigmatic, and the mobster is appropriately despicable. Included in Vol. 1 of Nikkatsu Diamond Guys.
--- Theatrical trailer

29. Nude on the Moon (Raymond Phelan & Doris Wishman, 1961 / United States / YouTube)*
Two scientists go to the moon and find a bunch of naked women. There are also some men in speedos. One of the scientists seems to have metallic hair. I watched it. I get the checkmark. I thanked the universe for Internet porn. Moving on.

April 10th
30. Mystery Science Theater 3000: 53. "Time of the Apes" (1991 / United States / Netflix Instant)*
Joel and the 'Bots take on a Japanese film cobbled together from TV show clips. The movie follows a trio of people who freeze themselves and then thaw years later when the world is run by apes. It's silly and very poorly dubbed, but the commentary makes it an enjoyable watch.
31. Dick Tracy's G-Men: 12. "Fight in the Sky" / 13. "The Fatal Ride" / 14. "Getaway" / 15. "The Last Stand" (1939 / United States)*
Dick Tracy clings to a plane in a daring stunt! Dick Tracy survives a harrowing Car of Death! Dick Tracy endures a clip show! These were a satisfying quartet of episodes to finish a pretty thrilling serial. While the villain isn't as engaging as the mob family of the last series, he's got enough flair and enough bombastic plans to keep the plot moving forward.
32. Koroshi no rakuin (Branded to Kill) (Seijun Suzuki, 1967 / Japan)*
Prolific actor Jô Shishido plays the third-ranked hit man of the Japanese underground. However, he botches a particularly tricky hit and has to kill his way through the mob and other hit men. Suzuki delivers a gripping, stylistic film that I thoroughly enjoyed. I have the old Criterion DVD and need to upgrade ASAP.

April 11th
33. Crowhaven Farm (Walter Grauman, 1970 / United States / YouTube)*
Hope Lange and Paul Burke play a couple who inherit an isolated farm when the original heir dying in a mysterious car crash. Once there, they incidentally adopt a harrowing little girl and get caught up with immortal pilgrim witches. It's a very silly made-for-TV movie that has several fun sequences.
34. Man in the Attic (Hugo Fregonese, 1953 / United States / AmazonPrime)*
Jack Palance is a mysterious lodger who may or may not be Jack the Ripper. Frances Bavier (Aunt Bee!) is his nosy landlady, and Constance Smith is her beautiful niece who becomes friendly with Palance. While Hitchcock did it better decades before, there's some fun stuff, especially from Palance and Bavier. Oh, and Constance Smith is in a very anachronistic stage revue with lots of legs and ass.

April 12th
35. This Is Not a Test (Fredric Gadette, 1962 / United States / YouTube)*
A police officer sets up a roadblock and group of stock characters assemble. Soon, they find out that a nuclear attack is imminent. The officer comes up with an idea to turn a truck into an impromptu bomb shelter. Things quickly spiral out of control, and the group splinters. It's a pretty terse b-movie.

Re: Ninth Annual Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge April 1-30, 2018 LIST THREAD

April 6
1. What Became of Jack and Jill? (1972) YouTube
A young man and his girlfriend plot to murder his grandmother for her inheritance, using the odd idea of trying to scare her to death by making her think that a youth rebellion is targeting the old. It's fairly decent for a drive-in flick, and in the hands of someone like Alfred Hitchcock this could have been a classic.

April 7
2. Theatre of Blood (1973) DVD
Vincent Price at his hammiest in this horror classic about a Shakespearan actor avenging himself by killing theater critics using methods borrowed from the Bard.
