Stan Lee Turns 95 (Update: Dead - RIP)

The day is almost over, but it's not too late to post that Stan Lee turned 95 today!

The most iconic figure in comic book history is still with us, and still funny as hell at 95!

I've been a huge fan ever since I started reading Stan's Soapbox and 1960's back issues of Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, and others in 1974. It really is hard to believe that he's still with us, and I hope he's around for a few more years.

And I love his cameos, too!

I came to this forum just for this thread. You guys don't disappoint.

Stan Lee is a good guy and role model (as far as I know). Wish we had more celebrities like him.

Is he the last legend alive from the Golden Age and early Silver Age?

Ditko is still around. He's 90.

But Kirby, Simon, Kane, Finger, Siegel, Shuster, and Everett are gone.

Allen Bellman is still around. He drew Captain America Comics in the 1940's and has been frequenting the conventions all over Florida and beyond for a few years now. He's in his 90's like Stan. He's a really nice guy too. I was talking to him about something when I met him at a convention and he was impressed with whatever I said and came around from the iter side of his booth to hug. me. There are probly a few other Golden Age creators still with us but I think Stan and Allen are the most prominent ones that are still going to convetions and having some involvement with fandom.

John Romita and Jim Steranko are still around from the Silver Age as is Joe Sinott. Stan's brother is still alive and does a few conventions in New Your every year. I'm sure there are still quite a few early Silver Agers still around.

Re: Stan Lee Turns 95

It's weird that John Romita Jr. is 61 years old.

Grant Morrison is 57, Alan Moore is 64, Neil Gaiman is 57, Amanda Conner is 50, Jim Lee is 53, Marc Silvestri is 58, Todd McFarlane is 56, Rob Liefeld is 50, John Byrne is 67, Mike Mignola is 57, Frank Miller is 60.

So many of the creators I grew up with are now the elder statesmen of the industry.

I'm happy he's still chugging along at 95. It would be cool if he makes it to 100.

Took the photo op with him at the Emerald City Comic Con last year and he had to be tired but still said "Thank you" after the photo.
I met him multiple times in the 80's when I lived in San Diego and went to the con on a regular basis and always was polite. Happy Birthday!

Stan Lee Accused of Sexual Misconduct By Home Care Nurses

Stan Lee has been accused of sexual misconduct by nurses who had once been employed to care for the 95-year-old comic book writer and editor in his Los Angeles home.

According to the Daily Mail, “a string of young female nurses” claim that Lee repeatedly groped and harassed them, and demanded to be “pleasured.” The nursing company that employed the women is now reportedly involved in an unspecified legal dispute with Lee. However, no lawsuit has been filed, and no criminal complaint has been made.

An attorney representing Lee denied the “false and despicable allegations” in a statement to the newspaper, and suggested his client has been a target of extortion: “Mr. Lee will not be extorted or blackmailed, and will pay no money to anyone because he has done absolutely nothing wrong.” The lawyer sent a cease-and-desist letter late last month to the company that made the accusations.

A representative for the nursing company confirmed to the Daily Mail that the owner had received complaints from nurses who worked at Lee’s home, and spoke directly with him. The company stopped working for Lee in late 2016. A representative for Vitale Nursing Inc., which currently provides home care for Lee, insists he is “polite, kind and respectful.”

Lee was sued in 2015 by former assistant Shawn Lukaszewicz, who claimed he was wrongfully fired after enduring emotional abuse from the comics creator and his daughter Joan Celia Lee.

Lee’s wife of 69 years, Joan Lee, passed away in July at age 93.

Re: Stan Lee Turns 95

Well, besides that the only other blemish I can think of in his career was his falling out with Kirby, mainly over rights, but this excellent article does a good job explaining what happened and how some of it, at least, may be attributed to Kirby's personality:

I remember reading Shooter's account of that final meeting on his blog.

Shooter talked about it on the Kirkman AMC documentary and mentioned how Kirby's wife shut down the idea of Lee and her husband working again.

Right, Roz Kirby was the one who pulled her husband away:
http://jimshooter.com/2011/03/remini...ck-kirby.html/

She was very protective of Jack, who felt he was screwed by Lee, who he saw as taking more credit than he should for the FF, and Marvel, who he felt screwed him out of royalties and wouldn't give him his original artwork back. She apparently saw him ready to back down and wouldn't have it.

Mark Evanier's eulogy for Roz:
http://twomorrows.com/kirby/articles/rozmark.html

but what I didn't know is that she let him come to Jack's funeral, seemingly willing to (finally) bury the hatchet.

He's got another accusation against him from a masseuse in Chicago at last year's C2E2. She claims he masterbated in front of her.

Bleedingcool has a story up where an unnamed but well respected comic artist witnessed his wife being pulled into Stan's lap and being kissed by Stan Lee at a show approx 6 months back. The dude is an old pervert...I wonder if he says "Giggity!" after he puts his tongue down a woman's throat. Although I could also picture him saying "Excelsior!" after performing said action.

The dude is 95 but still...proof that white males of privilege who came up during a certain time clearly got away with what would be considered straight up harassment today.

I do remeber when I did a private signing with Stan back in 2014, we were all is in hotel suite and there was one girl there who was in her mid to late 20's. Whle Stan was signing her items she was pretty much all over him, flirting with him. She was constantly standing behind him in his chair wrapping her arms around him. Mostly she massaged his shoulders during the whole signing. She kept saying "I always do this for Stan. He loves it when I massage his shoulders" He honestly didn't even aknowlege what she was doing or in any way acted like he enjoyed it or flirt back in any way. She was only average looking though and there were six of us in the hotel room at the time.

Okay I'm going to be very careful before I go and state the obvious and ask...shouldn't someone bring it up?

Re: Stan Lee Turns 95

Stan Lee keeps getting money stolen from his bank accounts and had an issue with his long time body guard/manager. A few months back he had a condo purchased with his money hot $850K and a loan made out for 350K to some "charity organization". Now today he's missing another $1.4 million from one of his accounts. Wonder if there is a connection between the altercation and the missing funds.

Being as his manager pretty much escorted him everywhere and handled everything convention related, this may be the end of Stan's appearances at cons unless they find a quick replacement. But his manager is partners with him on The Stan Lee Collectibles Company so I don't know how that would work.

Re: Stan Lee Turns 95

There's a fight brewing between Stan's daughter and Max Anderson, the long time bodyguard, with a lot comic personalities coming out on the side of Anderson, who is being smeared in the press. Whatever side is right, this is sad because Stan's dealing with pneumonia and is being isolated from pretty much everyone but his daughter. Either Max was taking advantage of him for a long time or his daughter is looking to secure the estate.

This is rather sad,I hate to sound negative but when you have relatives fighting relatives or managers and relatives fighting it's usually because someone with a huge estate doesn't have much time left. The story seems similiar to the one's that came out the last year Casey Kasem was alive.
