The 'Ghost B.C.' Thread

These guys are a trip and so as to not derail the vinyl thread further with their exploits I've started their own thread.

Their new Dave Grohl produced cover EP hits stores Tuesday and I was waiting for the cover of "Crucified" to be released and someone has posted it and it sounds great.

If you know who Army of Lovers are then you'll know why this track is sort of an odd choice for Ghost to cover. Lyrically no, but it's a dance track. I sit here chuckling.

I absolutely love these guys. I saw them open for Mastodon and Opeth and the crowds reaction was great. Their first cd was amazing and i think the second has it beat. Looking forward to getting this ep.

They are pretty great. Sort of 70s metal vibe with a ridiculous Satanic image. I love how the band members simply call themselves "nameless ghouls".

Never heard of the band before seeing them at Lollapalooza this summer. I definitely enjoyed their music, although I keep forgetting to pick up their albums online.

That's one hell of a line-up.

It was a hell of a show. Was supposed to be at the Paramount in Seattle but got moved at the last minute to a smaller bar. All three bands killed it and i would see any of them again in a heartbeat.

Nice to see this band getting some love on this forum. Anyone that's a fan needs to go see them in concert. They put on a great live show.

Re: The 'Ghost B.C.' Thread

Been a fan of these guys since their first album, but I have yet to see them live. Hoping to change that next year. I'm a big fan of bands that people have a hard time categorizing.

Re: The 'Ghost B.C.' Thread

I love that the band is creating this imagery and being serious in the music, but lighthearted about the theatrics. I think this is why i can connect with the band a little bit more than bands who lean "satanist" and take themselves way too seriously.

Re: The 'Ghost B.C.' Thread

I'm listening to the first track on the new EP - it's just so weird to hear music like this from a band that looks like they do. I can only imagine the number of people who will hear this and like it only to be aghast at their imagery.

I will admit I'd love to hear them playing Dimmu Borgir-style music even if it would be a bit "on the nose".

EDIT: Just saw the song title "Waiting For the Night" and was hoping it would be a Depeche Mode cover. YES!

....and I just realized it's a covers EP. Duh.

Indeed! I just finished it up a few minutes ago and it was great! It's such an evocative album - it also helps that Dave Grohl produced it. I do reckon there may be a slight backlash do to them not sticking to a certain sound. Their first album is a bit on the pummeling side but the their second album divided audiences due to it not pummeling enough. By that same token, they've gotten more fans to embrace their ever evolving sound.

There definitely is a trick to getting just enough "pummel".

Re: The 'Ghost B.C.' Thread

I think they have been pretty up front in interviews saying that each album would have a different sound. It seems to be they are "changing" the singer each album so each one will be the "new" singers style. I will say no matter what the sound change, the basic theme is the devil is awesome

Pretty much. I'm sure when their 3rd full length album hits stores the "new" lead singer: Papa Emeritus III will reveal himself.

I prefer their lead singer's other band - Repugnant. Old school Swedish death metal.

Re: The 'Ghost B.C.' Thread

So I finally listened to Ghost's previous albums and I do prefer the band's follow up to Opus Anonymous. The new "If You Have Ghost" EP cements them as a unique force in rock. I love the image and I love the tunes. They'll most likely make it in my top 3 of the year musically.

Now I'll have to track down the vinyls of the first two albums to complete my Ghost collection.

I was lucky enough to get one of these. They went all out on the packaging.

I also have the clear/blue splatter variant of their debut on Rise Above Records.

Damn, Bengan's wants about $49 shipped. The vinyl is $28 and the shipping is $22.

Hotsuff wants $47 shipped.
