Can MODS ban a user?

Can moderators here ban a user? Like a spammer etc? Last night the movie forum got flooded for over one hour.

Is it only the admins that can ban a user?

Can we let users ban users? I saw the spam flood coming in last night, and couldn't do anything about it.

Re: Can MODS ban a user?

While regular members can't ban a user, remember that the Triangle under a user's avatar can be used to report spam (or anything over the line, for that matter).

Re: Can MODS ban a user?

I would like the ability for mods to ban new users at least, that way we can do something about spam other than try to delete faster than the spammer posts.

I never knew that only admins could ban people. Figured that was within a moderators powers.

This seems like a worthwhile approach.

What about the SLIPPERY SLOPE, Groucho?

First it's "new" users.
Then it's users whose accounts are < 6 months.
Then it's accounts under 5 years. Then 10 years!
Then it's accounts who don't post every single day!
Then accounts who DO post every single day!
THEN IT'S LITERALLY NAZI GERMANY IN HERE!

Or, like... yeah. I think mods should have this ability.

I wholeheartedly second this.

We can delete spam, but it doesn't help when they won't stop.

Re: Can MODS ban a user?

If not fully ban, at least being able to block them from posting would seem a good power, if the software allows such a thing.

Re: Can MODS ban a user?

I'm assuming that admins are the only ones who can suspend a user as well? If not, mods could simply suspend a new user preventing the spam attack until an admin is able to wield the ban hammer.

Do you know how many times I have hit that report button on occasion and you admins pop up hours later to fix it?

Give Dex and Groucho Super Mod.

Re: Can MODS ban a user?

Never knew mods couldn't ban users - I get technically why it wouldn't be allowed but for garbage spam user accounts, I'm surprised there isn't an exception.

It's dumb that moderators can't ban users.
