OFFICIAL RULES
-Movies, TV shows/specials, Short Films & Cartoons Count
-The movie or TV show DOES NOT need to be holiday oriented. It could simply take place during the holiday season (i.e. Batman Returns, Gremlins, Die Hard, etc.)
-Although the movie doesn't have to take place during the holiday season, a MAJORITY of the film HAS to take place during the holiday season. No movies with just one scene during the holiday season. If you're not sure, ASK!
-Any holiday from Thanksgiving through New Years Day may count
-A film can only be viewed once, UNLESS you watch it and then watched it again with a commentary
-There is no global goal, shoot for a personal goal. Whatever you want your goal to be go for it. For returning participants maybe your goal should be to beat a previous year's goal.
-Again, like past years there will be a THREE Wild Card option to include movies or TV shows you might watch during the holiday season that is not holiday oriented. My family used to watch Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory every Christmas. So anything is allowed, up to 3.
-Specials such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, New Years Rockin' Eve, etc. can count, but you MUST watch the entire special in order to count it.
-PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE number your lists! If you do not number your list it will not count towards the challenge
-It doesn't matter how you see the film, VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, Laserdisc, Theatrical release, it can be counted. Just have fun.
-The challenge will begin at midnight on Saturday November 18, 2017 and will end at dawn on Tuesday January 2, 2018

I got to 108 last year. I have tried to do something different each year in what I have watched. I'll start thinking about this challenge once the horror challenge is done. Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas starts October 28th.

Wow. Hard to believe it is time to start thinking about the Holiday Challenge. I'm glad to see it starts almost a week before Thanksgiving.

This brings me back to the forum every year haha.
Can't wait for it to start again, love this time of the year in general from October to December.

It's true that many of the challenges almost seem like a reunion of sorts. Welcome back to the 2 of you!
True story: I just set aside a half dozen Christmas DVDs that I found in storage today. That's way more preparation than I've ever made in October.

I remember suggesting the start of the three wild card rule so I could include watching The Lord of The Rings Trilogy. I haven't been able to watch it for a couple of years due to work, but I hope I can watch them this year. They mean a lot to me watching them during the Christmas season as they came out on my winter breaks in college.

Reminiscing through some of our old threads, I found this:
Freaky timing.
Just had a bizarre coincidence right now. I'm watching a Christmas episode of Alice, Mel's Christmas Carol. The special guest star is the great Jack Gilford, who I've always loved.
As he makes his first appearance, I click on the link to read about him and see how long ago he died. And just as Mel says to his character, "you died 17 years ago", I see on IMDB that Jack Gilford died exactly 17 years ago.
It was the exact same second.

Seems to be way too early to think of this, but looking at the calendar, we're almost halfway through October! Time flies sometimes...
I have been thinking ahead on this challenge myself. It's one of my favorites and I'm usually refreshed and ready to start watching movies for the challenges again too.
I've been trying to decide if I want to reorganize my movie collection and take all my winter holiday movies, condense them and move them to the front of the collection so they are all in one spot rather than alphabetically throughout my shelves. I have a ton of Hallmark type movies that are really bare bones releases, so want to utilize multi-disc cases to free up a bit of space that way as well. I think it'd make it easier to grab when I'm in the mood for a Christmas/Holiday movie but not sure what I want to watch.

My collection and movie watching is almost entirely geared towards nine or so specific "genres"; holiday, horror, MST3K, Disney, Criterion, Comic Book, Adult Swim, Muppets, and Python. So all of these are stored separately.

I have TV and Disney/Pixar separated out. Muppets are all together, but under M. Same with my Bond movies, under J. I have debated putting all the Marvel ones together, but still in my main collection. I just started to realize that I have enough of a holiday collection, that it might be easier to find if I put them all together. I like my cheesy feel good Christmas movies!

I'm looking forward to this. I love Christmas movies almost as much as horror movies. (ok, not really, but they run a distance second.)

Anyone else starting early?
I've been watching the Hallmark Channel 24/7 for the past week.

I’m already watching my hallmark dvds, and already watched Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. I’m looking for some of the newer hallmark movies at Walmart, but haven't seen any yet. I’m guess more movies will be out starting this week.

This popped up on my youtube playlist I thought it would be fun to post here. What would be the real injuries from all the traps from Home Alone 1 & 2? Basically the paint cans would kill Harry and Marv, same with throwing the bricks in part 2.

Interesting videos, but I was very disappointed they only cover a few of the injuries in part 2.

I highly recommend the new movie Better Watch Out, there's a gag in it played out involving paint can trap from Home Alone and what would really happen if you got hit in the face with it.
