Joe Dante's "Matinee" (1993)--How Likely a Criterion Release?

Re: Joe Dante's "Matinee" (1993)--How Likely a Criterion Release?
That said, it's still a relevant example: Criterion's 2-disc Do the Right Thing is still in print (at least via Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Do-Right-Thing...3291406&sr=8-3), despite the existence of Universal's 20th Anniversary Edition.
I think Universal is happy to license anything to CC, as long as they can still make some first-run/side profits at the same time.

I wrote Criterion a letter today suggesting that "Matinee" should be added to their vast and esteemed collection. It says the following:
If on the off chance you think that Criterion should release a proper version of "Matinee" (stranger things have happened) please drop them a line here:

I would like to recommend the often overlooked film, "Matinee" from 1993 starring John Goodman and Cathy Moriarty which could easily be considered genre filmmaker Joe Dante's masterpiece. The film is a sublime love letter to schlock monster movies (especially the works of William Castle) of the 50s and 60s. This film was originally released on DVD by Image Entertainment in 1998 and after going out of print, became an often expensive collector's item for over a decade until it's re-release by Universal Studios May of this year. However the film is a barebones release with an anamorphic (though grainy) transfer that is found wanting. I believe that this film would be an appropriate and quality addition to the Criterion Collection. It garnered strong reviews from critics when it was released, and it has an aforementioned collectible status from the last ten years.
Recommended Features:
New High Definition Transfer Supervised by Director Joe Dante
Audio Commentary by Director Joe Dante
Audio Commentary by John Goodman, Cathy Moriarty, Robert Picardo, Omri Katz (any or all)
The "Mant!" Featurette and "Mant!" faux trailer imported from the original Laserdisc release
Deleted or Alternate Scenes (if any)
Original Theatrical Trailer
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Anybody look at the Savant review yet? As well as the interview with Joe Dante? Pretty good stuff. You guys should read both if you haven't had the chance yet.

Don't have to purchase the new DVD now. It's on Netflix streaming in it's OAR.
Looks fine unconverted to 1080i in my bedroom using my XBOX. Here's hoping to a proper Blu-ray release down the road and until then, I'll just hold onto my original Image release.
