The Walking Dead (S8E04) -- "Some Guy" -- 11/12/17

On the all-new episode, "Some Guy," a new weapon in the Savior arsenal proves to be a giant hurdle as fighting continues between Rick's forces and those of the Saviors.

For Pete's sake....shoot out a tire...and Dwight Schrute's younger brother was annoying enough that I almost turned it off.

Soooo much better. It started with yet another speech, but after that other than Carol surviving 10 minutes of point blank automatic weapons fire protected by nothing more than a plot armored pickup truck tire I thought it was a decent episode. It helped that it focused on a few primary characters and there seemed to be some sort of a point to the plot.

Too bad Shiva got Dire-Wolved.

Watching now ...

I like Ezekiel, but do we need to start off with another rah-rah speech and heart-tugging montage?

Those are some big holes in them bodies!

Felt more for Shiva's death than any character on this show.

So zombies can walk over railroad tracks and up and down ravines, but not down the hill last week.

I don’t know about any, but certainly any in a long time.

So ... in early seasons it became a joke that the show could only have a finite number of black guys at one time. They notoriously killed them off at an unusual pace. Now it appears they just forget about them ... Heath? Father Gabriel?

Was it just me or did a lot of this episode feel like 80s TV? A-Team maybe?

Oh Carol... stop those guys from getting away or save your friends... tough decision for someone who doesn't understand that tires can be shot out.

So 8 anorexic walkers can overpower a big-ass tiger? And tigers can withstand a few bites from other powerful animals, but walkers - not so much I guess.

Hate to nitpick and maybe i don't know anything about guns but shouldn't firing a machine gun have SOME recoil?

I guess TV shows and movies don't shoot real guns with blanks anymore? and it's all done in post? i dunno i just find it real cheap for a show that makes so much money.

Every episode that have all these massive gun shoots and it's all i ever notice is the lack of blowback from machine guns hah

It did help that they were obviously taking turns firing at each other. Somehow each side just knew when it was their turn to fire and the other side was hiding behind the truck so they wouldn't get hit

Wonder if the toxic zombies, or the toxic waste plays a role in the future. They went to the bother of teasing about them in the previous episode.

I kill the show here every week cause it's been bad, so I will give it's due as last nights episode was a good one. I actually want to watch it again during the week. Kirkman kind of shrugged off Hardwicks question of a Zombie Shiva, as it sounds like it's not happening.

I agree--Besides the obvious already mentioned, I liked this episode more than any so far this season. Rick and Daryl taking down that vehicle with the guns was cool.

Negan's henchmen must have been stormtroopers before this all happened because 5 of them with automatic rifles can't hit her at all and the guy with the big gun in the truck can't seem to get very many good shots in on Rick 20 feet right in front of him.

This show does violence pretty well. Successful action scenes, though ... not so much.

I've noticed this too. It looks really ridiculous. Perhaps blanks are no longer used for safety reasons. The least actors could do is move the rifles as if the guns are recoiling.

Really liked this episode but the only things that keeps bugging me is the zombie rules. Sometimes the zombies are fast, sometimes they aren't. Sometimes they can up a hill and then in some episodes they can't. Sometimes they are loud and sometimes they are as silent as Batman.

Damn, RIP Shiva.

https://moviepilot.com/p/the-walking...icized/4485915

I love this little article nit picking every little detail of this episode. Apparently some fans think Shiva was killed off because she was getting too expensive to create.

They also nit pick about the CGI bullets in the shootout scene with Carol.

Funny how last season was regarded as a slogfest after the big kills in the season premiere. Now this year they've really ramped up the action and shootouts through only 4 episodes. I'll give them credit that so far the episodes haven't been boring so far despite all these ridiculous shootouts and waste of bullets. They've kept it action-packed.

Wasn't sure what the episode title meant until Ezekiel acknowledged he wasn't some mighty King and ruler and was just some random guy when he was feeling the stress and terror of the walker attack.

Rollin', rollin', rollin'...keep them zombies rollin'....

As for this season thus far:

Meh. "Action" for the sake of action gets old pretty fast.

Gripes (many already mentioned):

Machine gun can mow down rows of people from a pretty good distance but can't hit motorcycle or car within spitting distance (until finally the old radiator block gambit is played).

Rick can dispatch hundreds of walkers with a well-placed knife blow to head but has a hard time cutting throat of human driver and dumping him out of truck in order to be able to save weapons vehicle intact.

Carol can hide behind truck with no shots either ricocheting on walls behind her or pinging off pavement below truck. Also, Carol doesn't take out guys while all five are gathered together with four holding up gun crates and the other with weapon slung over shoulder. Also, Carol's attackers don't attempt to flank her position with covering fire but just do a back-and-forth full auto exchange to eat up air time.

The interminable crawling and stumbling from zombie scenes with the King (and his subject and his attacker and Jerry) without any point.

Shiva...who could literally have shredded the emaciated walkers easily or bowled them over while escaping...just allows herself to be swarmed. Unless this is a deliberate sacrificial rear guard action from Shiva...totally unnecessary considering her power...this was contrived.

As for "Zombie Shiva," unless the walkers can regurgitate all the consumed pieces and then the reanimated chunks can reform themselves into semblance of a big feline, don't think anyone has anything to worry about.

How big an appetite do walkers have, anyway? Do they keep eating until they're full? What if their stomachs have rotted away...does the food just fall out? And does zombie scat litter the landscape?

I also liked when the stormtrooper in the back of the truck actually hit the jeep and it started smoking and drifting off...

only to heal itself and come right back again, overtaking the truck

Most of the episode was just mindless bullet spraying but I did enjoy the car chase scene. Least it was different than the mindless spray and pray season we've seen so far.

How many episodes are they going to wait to revisit Negan in the trailer? This is such piss poor storytelling.

There were some decent scenes in this episode. I really like the way the Rick/Daryl chase scene was put together.

Personally I would like them to leave Negan in the trailer and forget him altogether. I would hate to lose Gabriel as he's one of my favorites, but I would take the trade off.

But, according to the scenes for this coming week, you will get your wish. Negan will be back doing his yoga and yodel trick.

I don't disagree with this. I don't miss him. All I'm saying is the execution of storytelling is terrible.
