These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.
The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.
Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.
Spoiler tags aren't always used in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

I love Yongary. Cheesy Kaiju fun. One of my bucket list goals in life is to dress up in a monster suit and crush a city!
I definitely like it more than Highway to Hell. Highway to Hell tried hard to be funny, too hard. I don't think Ben Stiller is funny.

Well duh, I finally figured out why there were 2 for today's picks. We only need to watch one? If time permits I may try to get them both in, but I'm stoked to watch Yongary. I watched Highway to Hell a few months ago, and felt some ambivalence. We will see.

Highway to Hell had a decent premise, but the humor mostly missed. Nothing I'd go out of my way to revisit.
Yongary was fun, and I'm a proud owner of the blu-ray, but I'm a sucker for kaiju and similar films.

I tried watching the theatrical cut of Yongary, but I had to switch to the MST3K version due to deep hurting.

I've seen Yongary before and while it's not my favorite giant monster movie it's OK if a little bargain basement. I hate the kid though. I understand why they put him in, but even when I was a kid I disliked the kids in Gamera movies for instance.
I liked Highway to Hell. I didn't think it was funny (maybe lighthearted, definitely kind of silly at times) but the action stuff was good and I liked all the bizarre denizens of Hell that showed up along the way. I saw it as a quest story with the purehearted hero out to save his true love. Also I really liked Satan's makeup. I will probably watch this again someday.

You can't really make any complaints about Yongary, if you like those early Godzilla installments they're very similar in most aspects. One thing about the story though is that they can name a monster and yet they can't name or use a designation for a space capsule...I hear them say capsule one more time I was going to scream. I could definitely watch this one again in the future
Agree with omike on Highway to Hell (1992). I too found it a lighthearted quest against the devil; although the devil seemed to be more soft hearted than you'd actually expect him to be.
Over all both films are entertaining in their own right

I thought Yongary was a decent simple classic monster movie but then I haven't seen any of the Godzilla or related films of that generation. Not able to see Highway To Hell due to needing english subtitles with my hearing loss with the services I have accessible to me currently but hope to in the future out of curiosity.

I loved Highway to Hell, it's a cartoonish action comedy spin on the Orpheus myth with fun car races and a gnarly hell cop. It had a lot of great sight gags like the handcuffs, sex demon, claymation Cerberus dog, etc. The light hearted fast pace of Highway to Hell was just what I needed. It's true the devil was surprisingly nice for Satan and the hero was a little too lucky.
Yongary, on the other hand, the creature itself was nicely dated b-movie fluff with amusing low quality effects but wow was it a chore to get there. I'm so grateful to Trevor for pointing out the MST3K edition, that made it somewhat better. Capsule, capsule, capsule...

Re: "Yongary" & "Highway to Hell" Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge
Ended up watching them both. Both disks had commentary, so that was helpful through some of the low points.
I was pretty sure I was going to get a kick out of Yongary, and it didn't disappoint. I find that if if has a MST3K track, it's very likely going to be bad. Agree that that little kid was a tad annoying and the parents needed to put him on the leash. I had my own MST3K commentary in my girlfriend who was having a good time with the large rubber beast rampaging through Korea. I'm assuming this was Korea's response to Japan's Godzilla. Did Godzilla have a tongue that was so prominent?
I wish I had the opportunity to listen to the commentary on Highway to Hell. I thought the effects were quite good, and some of the bits pretty funny. Gilbert Gottfried as Hitler, who is trying to convince us he isn't Hitler. The story dragged for me a bit, and I was thankful Chad Lowe hasn't been in any more movies I've seen lately.

I liked Highway to Hell. It was more of an adventure than a horror movie, but it was a fun ride. As Undeadcow mentioned, there were a lot of great sight gags. I loved those handcuffs. I thought it was worth watching and can see myself revisiting it with some friends.
I haven't gotten around to Yongary yet. I might use that as an opportunity to finally watch one of the new MST3K episodes.
