These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.
The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.
Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.
Spoiler tags aren't always used in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

In the past I've hated C.H.U.D. - it's an epic idea with excellent creatures but plagued with some slow pacing. Watching CHUD this time the last third of the film helped win me over more. I was watching another movie earlier and they just called in the military to blow up the monster, here there's a more insidious form of governmental non-response that took me a while to appreciate the beauty of (that the administrators are as much a villain as the chud). The balance of sympathetic monster and unexpected human evil is rich, but quite a bait and switch if going in expecting a slimey gorey creature feature. Every time I look at a poster for C.H.U.D. I feel like it's got to be an amazing movie that I just fail to appreciate because something must be wrong with me (that posted Chad found in original post is a beauty). I found a good deal on the new Arrow blu-ray so I picked it up (maybe this 'Integral Cut' is some lost holy grail of making poor movies good) and still it takes so long for anything to happen. This is the least cannibalistic movie about supposedly cannibalistic creatures ever. The scene where Schane stumbles on the CHUDs is excellent, I wish that had come along sooner, or the brutal dead dog segment (the first CHUD attack in the intro is a nice appetizer but then nothing for so long).
Are subterreanian homeless people even a real thing? That is a documentary I would watch.
CHUD just takes a while to grown on you.

Better for the main thread perhaps, but I forget and it's not detailed in the rules post:
When can we count alternate cuts of a film? I vaguely recall being able to count them, but imagine we don't want that ruling if it's only a couple deleted scenes integrated into the film.
Asking since I have this Arrow BD with the theatrical and "integrated" cuts of C.H.U.D.

I always wanted to like this movie as a kid but nothing really happens until the end. The commentary is more entertaining than the movie itself.
I liked part 2 better, even though it was more of a Return of the Living Dead sequel than C.H.U.D.

The commentary is a hoot, highly recommended.
It just occurred to me that I might own the sequel in one of those multi-packs. Have to search for it....

Classic line for me was "Are you kidding? Your man has a camera mine has a flame thrower" This film never gets old. Same old storyline of government coverups, but it remains highly entertaining.

^ Yes! to both. Except I can't find that multipack anywhere. I'll upgrade someday. In the meantime, maybe I'll try to find it streaming.

CHUD is carried by Daniel Stern. Without him it would reeaaaallllly drag! I hate CHUD 2 with a passion

I liked this one. I'd seen it before but I only remembered a few major plot points and scenes, no details. The creatures look very good and I agree that Daniel Stern helps the film a lot but I also think that Christopher Curry as the police captain does a good job with some nice scenes with Stern's character. I thought the pacing was fine. The mysterious disappearances and the unraveling conspiracy provided enough material to keep my interest until the C.H.U.D.s really got going.

Man I love this movie! I'm sitting here watching ALYXSTARR's link because my blu-ray player is pitching a fit with the Arrow disk. I think I broke the door trying to get the disk out. GRR!
I was 12 when I first saw this movie. I had some friends over and my parents weren't home, so we popped C.H.U.D. into the VCR. I have to say the revelation of what C.H.U.D stood for was the atomic bomb blast to our little minds. C.H.U.D.s were the cause of every strange occurrence in our town for years once we saw that movie. Great memories.

Re: "C.H.U.D." Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge
I have to agree with how slow the first part of this movie is, it is such a slog. But, I feel the acting is way better than it should be and it amazes who is in it every time I watch it whether it's the main cast or the smallest parts.
I have always had one question though, did she have a miscarriage in the shower, or was it something stuck in the drain? Because if she did have miscarriage that was a little overboard.

I always enjoy this movie. I saw it a few months ago, but didn't mind watching it again. I think the great cast really helps.

Re: "C.H.U.D." Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge
I'm not a fan. I've never liked it; when I first saw it (on the Media VHS when it first came out), I was disappointed in the lack of monster action. When I watched it last night, I hoped that I'd like it more than I originally did, but I liked it far less. It just dddddrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaagggggs. I thought that the actor who plays Bosch, Christopher Curry, was awful.
As I mentioned in my write-up in the list thread, while I was watching it I was struck by how similar a set-up it had to some of the films of Larry Cohen, particularly Q. That led me to start thinking about how much better C.H.U.D. would have been with Larry Cohen involved...which only made me dislike the film more.

My first time seeing this. I liked the monster designs. The cast helped keep things moving, but the movie did drag.
Doesn't the sequel have a reputation among many for being notoriously bad?
