Re: The 13th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31) ***The List Threa

October 1

1) The Wolf Man (1941) (Svengoolie, MeTV) - A Classic! Fun to watch with an old school Horror Host 5/5

2) The Invisible Ray (Svengoolie, MeTV) - Average movie but still has Lugosi and Karloff 2.5/5

October 2

3) Stake Land 2 (Bluray) - Good follow up. Similar tone as the first one but a little more action oriented 4/5

October 3

4) Child's Play (Bluray) - A classic from the 80's. Thought I would revisit it before checking out the latest sequels 5/5

5) Curse of Chucky (Bluray) - 2013 sequel that linked everything (so far) together. This series has always had pretty good continuity. 3.5/5

October 4

6) Cult of Chucky (Bluray) - A direct sequel to Curse, lots of fun for fans of the franchise. A lot of familiar faces return. Love the old school practical effects. 4/5

7) The Invisible Man (1933) (TCM HD) - When in doubt, queue up a Universal classic. 4/5

October 5

8) An American Werewolf In London (Bluray, "Restored Edition") - 5/5

9) Howl (Bluray) - Fantastic and probably underrated werewolf movie with a similar tone and style as Dog Soldiers. 4/5

October 7

10) Carrie (1976) (Bluray) - 5/5

11) Salems Lot (Bluray) - 4/5

October 9

12) Invaders From Mars (1986) (Bluray) - 4/5

13) Critters (DVD) - 4/5

October 10

14) Innocent Blood (Bluray) - A gem from John Landis. Think American Werewolf in London meets goodfellas only with vampires. Maybe a better title would have been "A Parisian Vampire in New York"...Anyway, fun flick that looks great on bluray. 4.5/5

October 12

15) Slither (Bluray) - A favorite finally on bluray. 5/5

16) Jason X (DVD) - A guilty pleasure perhaps 3.5/5

October 18

17) Freddy vs. Jason (Bluray) - 4.5/5

18) Earth vs. The Flying Saucers (SonyHD) - Effects by the great Ray Harryhausen 3/5

October 19

19) The Exorcist III (Shout Factory Bluray edition) - The real sequel to the original Exorcist written and directed by William Peter Blatty. An underrated gem. 4/5

20) 31 (Rob Zombie's) (Bluray) - 4/5

21) Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (HDNet Movies hosted by Rob Zombie) - A very good entry in the TCM series 3.5/5

October 20

22) Blade II (Bluray) - 4.5/5

23) The Lost Boys (Bluray) - 5/5

24) Underworld: Awakening - Still an entertaining franchise 4/5

25) Priest (Unrated) (Bluray) - 3.5/5

October 21

26) The Devil's Rejects (HDNet Movies hosted by Rob Zombie) - Absolutely the best use of Freebird in a movie. 5/5

27) Pet Sematary (PPV HD) - Steven King classic! 4/5

28) Tarantula (meTV, Svengoolie) - 50's giant bug fun 3.5/5

October 22

29) In The Mouth Of Madness (Bluray) - 4/5

30) The Grudge (Unrated DVD) - 4/5

31) The Grudge 2 (DVD) - 3.5/5

October 23

32) Underworld: Blood Wars (Bluray) - 4/5

33) Frankenstein (meTV, Svengoolie) - 5/5

October 24

34) The Hidden (Bluray) - Another hidden (pun intended) gem 4/5

35) The Blob (1988) (HDNet Movies hosted by Rob Zombie) - A very good 80's remake of a classic 4.5/5

October 25

36) 28 Days Later (Bluray) - 4/5

37) The Blob (1958) (HDNet Movies hosted by Rob Zombie) - I prefer the 1988 remake. This one is rather slow in comparison. 3/5

October 26

38) Land of the Dead (Bluray) - Another Romero classic 4/5

October 27

39) Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (Bluray) - 4.5/5

41) Pumpkinhead (bluray) - A Halloween must watch 5/5

October 29

42) Body Snatchers (Bluray) - A more horror oriented version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. 4/5

43) The Brides of Dracula (meTV, Svengoolie) - A little Hammer Horror is a must during the Halloween season. 5/5

44) Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (DVD) - One of my favorites from the series. 4.5/5

October 30

45) Rob Zombie's Halloween (Unrated Bluray) - 5/5

46) Night of the Demons (Bluray) - 4.5/5

Halloween

47) Halloween, John Carpenter's (Extended Television Version, DVD) - The extended version has about 12 minutes of extra footage shot for television broadcast. Doesn't really add anything to the story, though the sequence with Doctor Loomis at the beginning is interesting. For a movie I've seen so many times, its fun to have a slightly different version t watch every so often. 5/5

48) Halloween H2O (DVD) - Really well done sequel. Would have been interesting to see what John carpenter would have done with it had he accepted the chance to write it. 4.5/5
