I'm betting the Lynch apologists already have their drafts of commentary ready defending the brilliance of The Return's ambiguous ending haha.

This is a prime example of why sometimes network interference is a good thing. This 18 hour season should have been trimmed down to 8-9 hours (like it initially was until Lynch cried). How much even takes place in Twin Peaks?

2.5 hours of Cooper. Wow.

Well, call me a Lynch apologist all you want but as someone who is happy to simply be immersed in his mind via film I have been enthralled watching The Return. Is it perfect? No, and I agree this whole Dougie/Cooper thing could have been wrapped up earlier to give fans more time with Coop.

But a long time ago I accepted that Lynch does Lynch, and you're either on board for the ride or you aren't. I don't agree with every narrative decision he makes, but I know somewhere in that coffee-and-cigarette-fueled head he has reason behind every move. Maybe it only makes sense to him but that's fine; again, I watch Lynch because I like to revel in his weirdness.

I knew before this season began this is the show we'd likely be getting - NOT Season 3 of the original show - and so far, while frustrating and challenging in its own ways, I have been enamored by whatever it is he's putting to the screen because nothing is expected. Not a single one of these episodes has gone how I thought it would, and I gave up even trying to guess long ago. For me, this has been a damn fine ride.

I might agree slightly with the Dougie storyline going a little long but this whole season has been a treat. Likely the last major work from Lynch.

Please. I'd like to see the defense of it.

I thought Episode 17 was great and thought I knew where Episode 18 was going. But it ended up being a bore. Maybe there are hush hush plans for a smaller 4th season. But that was a completely unsatisfying ending.

Not to mention there were sooooo many storylines that went nowhere and were useless.

Re: Twin Peaks (S1E17/E18) -- Season Finale -- "The Return - Part 17 & 18" -- 9/3/17

I really wish the order of those episodes had been reversed. With some minor adjustments, that could have made sense.

The ending of episode 17 was magic. I got very emotional returning to that point in 1991, remembering what it was like and reflecting how much time has passed. The idea of Laura missing her death, and Twin Peaks carrying on without the spectre of her dead body opened my imagination.

At first, I thought they must have run both episodes as an hour+ length thing, because I couldn't see how their could be more. That seemed like the end of the series there.

That last episode seemed like such a clunker. Whatever good parts it had are hard for me to appreciate right now.

I'll watch the series again in a few weeks. Hard to say I'm disappointed by it, because it was so much fun having this unique show to watch all summer long. I'm really glad Lynch made this, even if I feel like he ended it on a downer just for the sake of doing so.

Loved episode 17, but 18 is a head scratcher.

Can't say I'm surprised that the final episode blew ass.

What was ven the point of bringing Audrey back? I suppose her scenes could be taking place in the lternate world Cooper createdwhen he rescued Laura, but there have been so many red herrings and dead end plotlines that speculation is useless.

It seems like there might have been an interesting story in there, but it was buried under too much Dougie and Mitchum brothers nonsense that wasted hours of valuable screentime that could have been spent in, you know, actual Twin Peaks.

Much like when I watch the original series I stop once we get to the last episode with Leland, I think when I rewatch Season 3, I'll just stop with Episode 17. I agree with the consensus here - 17 was great; 18 was Lynch doing the same thing again to fans he did 25 years ago.

Had those final scenes actually ESTABLISHED Cooper was in a much earlier year, I would have rolled with that cliffhanger. Problem is there were too many moments where modern-day things were clearly visible, not the least of them that modern-day gas station selling gas at modern-day prices.

Lynch's wrap-up made it too easy for him to nix all the storylines he set up during the season. All that stuff with Audrey amounted to zero.

That was so poorly done and hamfisted that it arguably doesn't even warrant discussion. The bigger issue is that The Revival was so bad that it could tank the mythology of the original series. Lynch / Frost need to stay far away from serialized narratives for the rest of their careers. I really can't believe the finale was that bad.

Was anyone hoping Marty McFly would come running down the block and tell Cooper he's the only man who can fix the timeline?

It makes my head explode reading some comments on the TP Facebook page saying it was brilliant. I'm
sure these people couldn't explain why they feel so.

E17 was a perfect ending. S18 was the cinematic equivalent of filming the appendices to Lord of the Rings and tacking it on as a random 45 mins of extra footage.

I know...I commented on an article from a so-called professional writer and told him he was being a Lynch apologist and he told me to F-off. Nice.

I can understand people defending Episode 8 (even though I thought it was self-indulgent), but giving loyal fans this after 25 years of support? I know it's Lynch/Frost's creation, meaning they can do what they want with these characters, but it really does feel like the middle finger to everyone, since they knew they had one shot at getting this right. We'll never find out, but I sure would like to know from Frost if that's the ending he envisioned or if David changed it - because I've heard David re-wrote huge chunks of the script they worked on together.

I really want a Frost interview. Very curious what his Final Dossier book will reveal since it's supposed to tie up loose ends.

I know Frost was working on season three as a comic years ago and Lynch exercised creative control to squash it.

I'm confused. Weren't you saying like two weeks ago that this was the best thing on TV and the only thing you have interest in?

Re: Twin Peaks (S1E17/E18) -- Season Finale -- "The Return - Part 17 & 18" -- 9/3/17

Ugh. I was on such a high after episode 17. I was so excited about the finale and then that. I would have been fine if episode 18 was only a half hour or so. If it had ended with Cooper and Diane crossing over or after he saw Diane had left with the car, I would have been good with the mystery of it all. Instead, I'm left slightly irritated.

As for the season on the whole, I'm very mixed. There's so much I loved about it, but there are also so many missed opportunities and lingering plotlines. My biggest gripe is actually Audrey. You leave her on that note? Is that her equivalent of being stuck in a door knob or something?

As irritated as I am right now, if you told me there were going to be any more episodes or movies, I would be counting the days.
