Re: New Weezer

Didn't Rivers say that a "Black Album" was coming?

Weezer are returning with a new album this year. It’s called Pacific Daydream and it’s out October 27 via Crush Music. The LP includes the previously released track “Feels Like Summer,” as well as their new song “Mexican Fender,” which is out now. Last year, put out a self-titled record, better known as the White Album. Earlier this year, Rivers Cuomo released a new album with Allister’s Scott Murphy, sung almost entirely in Japanese.

Will this be good Weezer or bad Weezer?

I swear to god, with regard to quality, is there a more bi-polar band?

Their last album wasn't bad but it was also forgettable. I agree that Weezer as a band is very uneven. I don't dislike their albums for the most part but there's very little from their newer output that I want to go back to. They've had a few good singles but I think their last really good album was their self titled Red Album.

I thought their last album(White) was one of their best. Still listen to it regularly.

I love Weezer's output, with Death to False Metal and that Christmas EP being my least favorite stuff.

Every other album I've had in heavy rotation after its release. So much so that the whole family (wife + 3 sons ranging from 18 to 24) is now into Weezer and sings along.

I ended up pre-ordering the $130 package direct from Weezer because my wife wants the jacket.

I mean it's fine but truthfully I can't name one song off of it so that's not a good sign. I vaguely remember the main single off it but that's all. Their music now is good enough to listen to but it just doesn't have that same hook that made their earlier stuff memorable in my opinion. Even Make Believe which a lot of people seemed to dislike I remember at least half of. I honestly like Weezer quite a bit but their better days are behind them.

This is a good way of putting it. I thought that "Everything Will Be Alright In The End" was the best thing they did since "Make Believe". But that was sandwiched between albums that were completely forgettable as was Raditutde and the and 2nd half of the Red Album.

They worked with a power-pop producer this time around so who knows what will happen?

Wow. This is extremely poppy... almost Maroon 5ish & I could've sworn I heard auto-tune at some point.

I dig Mexican Fender from this album. The video is very weird though.

Re: Weezer -- "Pacific Daydream" -- out 10/27/17

I thought this was kind of amusing...

There is a person on Twitter who was campaigning to convince Weezer to cover Africa by Toto: https://twitter.com/weezerafrica

Weezer trolled them and released a cover of Rosanna instead last week:

<iframe width="598" height="336" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/J8jr-p0lQZo" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Then they have now finally released Africa:

<iframe width="598" height="336" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/E4c7EE8_IX0" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Also, just a funny thing that happened to me. I had Brian Bell buy a DVD from me on eBay recently.

Re: Weezer -- "Pacific Daydream" -- out 10/27/17

Weezer has their biggest hit in over a decade and they follow it up with... this?

While I prefer them in classic crunchy guitar mode, I'm not totally against them playing with new sounds. I like "I Love the USA", most of "Feels Like Summer", and if whittled down Pacific Daydream is a pretty decent EP. This song has interesting elements, but overall it gets a shrug from me. Rivers chasing modern Top 40 success can be embarrassing.
