Which Rare/Cult movies have you been most excited to see on Bluray ?

I'm just watching Roberta Findlay's Tenement aka Game of Survival in HD

Never thought i'd see this movie in HD. It's one of the titles i got an uncut version from my bootleg/tape trading days.

It's always quite exciting to see movies you have only seen before in sometimes very poor quality brought back to life on bluray or other HD sources

I remember when Cannibal Holocaust came out on bluray, man that movie was (probably still is ) banned in Australia for decades. I remember trying to import a copy through customs back in the day. Twice it got confiscated, got through the third time.

what old obscure cult/rare titles have you most been excited to see on bluray ?

These may not be the greatest movies out there but I was happy when they made an HD version of Outland. The DVD version of it absolutely sucked, it was so grainy, lighting levels were way off, just piss-poor VHS quality. Another movie I'd been waiting to find at a decent price then was released on BD was Saturn 3 which had been OOP for a long time, as was Rawhead Rex which comes out next month on blu-ray. Still waiting on Grand Tour: Disaster in Time...

Spoiler:

...off the top of my head. There are plenty others though. For all the stuff I still bemoan over not being released yet, there really are a hell of a lot that have been that make me ridiculously happy and sated.

Nightmare Weekend (1986)

I fell instantly in love with this cheese fest upon my first viewing back in VHS days. I was a happy camper when Brentwood in collaboration with Troma released it on DVD in 2006. The print was taken from a VHS master, but it still looked fine enough.
Much to my surprise Vinegar put out a Blu-ray last year. The movie shines and sparkles in HD, it was pure joy to watch.

I went to see the 4k restoration last week at a nearby theater. Movie heaven.

I'm pretty excited for the upcoming release of Sergio Corbucci's The Mercenary. As far as I know, it never even got a proper DVD release in the States.

It's actually quite sad that these two have become rare and we had to wait this long.

In general though I really enjoy seeing a lot of 80s low budget horror being released, be it Arrow, Vestron video, SCREAM Factory, or elsewhere. A big part of my pre/teen years was going to the video store and checking out the box covers in the horror section.

Screwballs was one of the first Blu-rays I watched- doesn't really benefit from the format, but had never been on disc before.

Make sure you pick up the sequel, Loose Screws, as well.

By no means a classic, but I was happy to see "Ishtar" on Blu-ray as it never received a North American DVD release.

Adele Blanc-Sec, based on a European comic and not much exposure in the US.

Savage streets uncut

Deathwish 2 uncut

A few more great blurays

One movies i am after which never even came out on dvd is Young Warriors (1983)

All of the old online stores which used to sell copies of rare movies using the old "public domain" disclaimer have all closed down. From Vidjunkie to Blackest heart media, there used to be quite a few

I have that on VHS already, don't really care for it. It's not really a sequel as the characters and stuff are different.

Same director. The Blu-ray correctly identifies it as Screwballs 2: Loose Screws. The third one is Screwball Hotel, which I've never seen.

I'm especially grateful that Italian horror, giallo, and Poliziotteschi films have gotten a decent showing in the format. You owe it to yourself to check out Fernando De Leo's magnum opus, CALIBRE 9.

I'm also thrilled beyond belief with most of the titles already listed. To add:

DEMON SEED
THE STUFF
MOTEL HELL
KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS
BLUE SUNSHINE

Pretty much all of Severin's catalogue. All of Vinegar Syndrome's catalogue of releases.

I have a love that I really can't explain for this film, but probably about 80% of it has to do with Aimee Eccles, and the other 20% with the director, Stephanie Rothman:

I'm also pretty stoked that these four classics have been released on Blu-ray:

Those Rudy Ray Moore flicks turned out really well on Blu-ray.
