X-Force (D: Goddard) -- news, rumors, etc.
I didn't think there was a thread already...
This comes from an interview from Simon Kinberg:

This comes from an interview from Simon Kinberg:
DEADLINE: In terms of what’s next in the X-Men universe pipeline, it’s Deadpool 2, then…?
KINBERG: Deadpool 2 is going into production this year. Then X Force which is a combination of Deadpool, and Cable –they’re like the Black ops of the X-Men. They’re much darker and have an R-rated decibel. There are other X-Men characters coming into X-Force at different times in the comic, but it’s separate from X-Men. There is a larger architecture to tell these stories in. I talk to the studio all the time about this and there is a plan for how these movies can connect and be a part of a larger narrative. It’s something that’s fun, exciting and it will be interesting to see how we marry the different tones that we’ve been generating in these standalone movies of the X-Men universe. But we go into making the best movie we can. It’s not just about a Colossus or Deadpool cameo. Connecting all of these movies will happen when it organically makes sense. These movies aren’t simply being built as stepping stones to a larger story. Each one is wholly enclosed and a movie worth seeing.

Never miss an opportunity to bring DC into a Marvel (albeit Fox Marvel) thread.

Seems like random people have been talking about X-Force for years, including Rob Liefeld. With X-Men in a weird spot right now and Deadpool being a big hit, would be neat to see them establish X-Force finally.

When talk of an X-Force movie makes its way here I always think of this version.
That's an impossibility with the success of Deadpool.

The version that they had to change the title of due to fan backlash? Yeah, that's not gonna happen. Even if someone did get it into their head that they wanted to make that movie, my guess is that it would be made as X-Statix.

It wasn't fan backlash, it had something to do with Rob Liefeld. At the exact same time they relaunched Deadpool and Cable with different titles.

That's Doop. I believe he is the only member of that version of the team who is still alive.
This version of X-Force was one of those things which they sometimes do in comics (and I hate) where the entire team is replaced, and the new incarnation has absolutely nothing to do with the previous incarnation.
Another incident like this was when Thunderbolts went from being about a group of villians who pretended to be heroes to a completely different set of characters involved in some kind of underground fight club.
Presumably they do this to launch a new property with some kind of name recognition, and I would guess that it does boost sales at first vs. launching a completely new property, but I don't know how the hate it engenders among the existing fan base can possibly be worth it.

X-Statix would only work as an "Adult Swim" style animated series, I think. It had too much oddness to be a live action movie.

Drew Goddard To Direct, Write ‘X-Force’ With Deadpool Leading Black Ops Force At Fox
http://deadline.com/2017/09/x-force-...ox-1202163706/
EXCLUSIVE: Fox has set Drew Goddard to write and direct X-Force, the X-Men spinoff film that revolves around Deadpool and Cable leading a Black Ops force of down and dirty mutant warriors who are far more ruthless than their X-Men counterparts. Kinberg, Ryan Reynolds and Lauren Shuler Donner are producing.

For me though, it would end up looking more like a motion comic, not that much of a departure from the comic.
I think it would be cool to see it done as a movie, but yeah, the oddness couldn't be translated by a big studio. It would have to be someone willing to take a chance, and no one's gonna do that with an X-Men related property.

I never saw the appeal of Rob Liefeld's X-Force. I just remember them getting into a bunch of big brawls with weird looking villains.
The X-Men were supposed to be students/teachers in their civilian lives, and only put on spandex when they were fighting big threats.
What was X-Force's purpose? What did they do in their down time? Did they have disguises?
Years later when Wolverine joined the team, I thought it was good.

X-Force, a Deadpool spinoff from Drew Goddard, is set to begin shooting in October, with Reynolds and Josh Brolin expected to star.
