Forged In Fire -- History Channel
Started watching this a couple of months ago and quickly found it pretty damn entertaining. Nice to see a competitive show where the contestants have respect for one another, no trash talking and a show of some real skill. Some of the blades they make on the show are pretty damn spectacular. The judges are pretty great and Doug Marcaida always cracks me up with this "It will cut" lines.
So anyone else checking it out? Seems to have actually been on for a couple of years.

I'm watching it and have from the start. I like the artistry and skill of the contestants and seeing how the blades hold up under those strenuous tests. Also, I'm glad that people are keeping those old skills alive.
in the past year, they have been airing new shows pretty consistently with three or four weeks off here and there.

I watched the first couple of seasons before growing bored of seeing yet another Bowie knife getting made.
I understand why they use a reality gameshow format but I think we aren't seeing very good work. They simply don't give the blacksmiths enough time to hone their weapons.
Four competitors is probably too much for a single hour. I'd rather get to know 2 or 3 competitors better over that span.

I've had a low level interest in metal working/forging/etc for a while and this show has caused me to definitely want a forge and metal shop at my next house

My wife and I have been watching since the beginning and enjoy it as well. Was rooting for the solo apprentice to wind the team episode ...

This is true of every "timed" reality comp. When artists are introduced on "Ink Master", we're usually shown nice pieces from their portfolios and you rarely see that level of quality on the show. Cooking comps are the same thing, -we'll give you a half hour and half your ingredients.

I still watch, but they need to use more mechanical testing. I can't remember which episode it was, but you can clearly see Doug hit a pig with the side of a sword in the final round. They even showed it in slow motion.
I really like the first and second round along with the at home stuff. The testing is usually boring.

I actually liked the show on Discover(well, I think it was Discover) better showing a blacksmith forging legendary and famous weapons from fiction.

Still watching and still enjoying it. But I'd like to see them just repeat a final round weapon rather than "lets dig up something really obscure and pointy this week" ...

I still watch as well but the formula is getting a bit tired. I'd like to see them dictate what the contestants make in the first round. Like a Kris dagger or the weapon from Krull. That way you dont see 4 guys making Bowie's and Kukri's.

The judges making fun of each other has been pretty funny (such as the episode with the contestant in the vest as well).

The nation's top bladesmiths, martial artists and knife experts slice, stab and chop their way through some of the most daunting obstacle courses ever seen in HISTORY's new nonfiction competition series "Forged in Fire: Knife or Death" premiering Tuesday, April 17 at 10PM ET/PT. Hosted by WWE Hall Of Famer Bill Goldberg, the six episode series features fearless competitors as they race against the clock putting their blades and blade-wielding skills through a grueling gauntlet of challenges such as slicing through flying watermelons, hacking through massive ice blocks and severing various types of ropes, tubes, metals and item-filled crates. Joining Goldberg as co-host is Special Forces veteran, martial artist and edged weapons expert Tu Lam, along with two-time "Forged in Fire" champion Travis Wuertz as the sideline blade specialist. In this series, competitors bring their best blades, ranging from America's historical Bowie knife and a Viking Seax, to a medieval sword and a traditional Japanese Katana. Throughout history, the blade and one's ability to wield it meant the difference between life and death and in this series, competitors go back to their roots in using these various knives and swords in a way that showcases what they were initially intended for. From competitors utilizing ancient martial arts techniques to excel through the obstacle courses, to hand-forging their blades using historical methods of craftsmanship, "Forged in Fire: Knife or Death" stresses the importance of the art of blade wielding as much as it entertains. In two different timed courses - "Knife Fight" and the "Dead Run" - each obstacle challenges competitors to test numerous facets of their blades from strength, durability and sharpness to the speed, precision and overall technique of the blade wielder. I saw the first few minutes of the new show. Turned it off. Just did not seem interesting at all. I will stick with Will Willis and his spectacularly ever changing hair.

An amazing number of episodes this year. I think Forged in Fire started back in March and just had its 37th episode this season. During this time they also aired 2 seasons of FiF: Knife or Death.
I like the show. It must be a moneymaker for them, probably inexpensive to produce and popular with viewers.
Looks like it will take a break while Vikings airs.
