Friday the 13th - early 2017
I have nightmares about how bad the NES game was ... but here's hoping!
Friday the 13th, the genre-defining blockbuster horror franchise, is set to thrill and terrify a whole new generation of digital fans as the incomparable, unstoppable Jason Voorhees returns to videogames for his first solo outing in over 25 years, EGM has exclusively learned.
Currently in development, Friday the 13thwill reportedly be an asymmetrical, co-operative and competitive multiplayer predator/prey horror experience that pits a small group of resourceful survivors against a single player in control of the immortal, relentless slasher icon.
This will be the first official Friday the 13th licensed game to feature the hockey mask–wearing, machete-wielding psychopath since players last faced off against the infamous Jason on the NES back in 1989.
The new game, tentatively titled Friday the 13th, is in development for multiple platforms for an October 2015 release. The game’s lore will not only reference elements from the classic film franchise, but also incorporate content and themes from the upcoming Friday the 13th television series.
“With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form,” explains Sean S. Cunningham, creator of the original film that is credited by many as the genesis of the slasher/horror genre. “We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.”
Cunningham hints that an experienced game studio has taken the reins of the title’s development and will be announced in the coming weeks.

This concept sounds pretty similar to a kickstarter that someone was trying to start that used F13 as the example. I wonder if they just hired the makers of the kickstarter.

10/25? Fail!

Tons of articles about it, but they all point back to EGM.

Being Jason and creeping on a come up sounds interesting. I hope they provide a variety of recognizable environments as well as methods of dispatch. However, I hope they have a single player mode as well.

I beat the old NES game, so it wasn't impossible. For the longest time it was the only game I owned for the original NES besides the Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt combo that came with the console, so I played the hell out of it.

I hated that NES game. As far as the new game, could be cool, I guess. There isn't much to go off yet.

I had that NES game too, as one of maybe a dozen that I owned at the time. I just remember how slow some of the characters were; I remember Jason's mom's head too.

So it's been a long time since anyone has posted in here. The game was supposed to be out in October but was pushed back to early 2017 to add some features (namely a single player campaign). The beta footage shown recently makes it look pretty fun (at least the multi-player aspect, not sure what the single player campaign is about yet). One cool thing is that it appears that Tommy Jarvis is in the game as a playable character. As a fanboy of the franchise I'll probably pick it up.
Here's a livestream from the beta of the counselors/teens which I think looks more fun than playing as Jason. I will say the graphics seem a bit iffy at times but hopefully it's polished up more when the final game releases.
