Amazon Smart TV -- Element

Great price-point but no mention of HDR, so never mind.

Re: Amazon Smart TV -- Element

That's odd since Prime has HDR content.

Exactly. This is for those who just want all things Amazon, including the Echo and Firestick.

Isn't element a pretty shitty brand?

This may sound like a dumb question.

But, I have a new 4K HDTV that I got last November. It's Samsung.

It apparently has HDR. But I'm not sure what exactly that is? Can someone enlighten me?

Why is HDR such a big deal? Is it a must-have for 4K UHD's?

I think it's a must have. In the simplest way of describing it, it greatly extends the color palette. It expands the color aspect ratio, so the reds can be even deeper, blues, blacks, all the basic colors. It's supposed to replicate more natural images.

Re: Amazon Smart TV -- Element

But it only works plugged into 4K content correct?

So like watching TV shows from my Directv receiver makes absolutely no difference then? Since it's all 1080p.

Games look way better with HDR. On my OLED when HDR is activated; The Last of Us and Gran Turismo Beta look awesome.

Your TV can upscale I'm guessing, but depending on content, it may not look very good. But stuff like UHD discs or UHD streaming, material could look incredible.
