Amazon Lowers Free Shipping Threshold Again to $25

From their website:

Let's see if Walmart and/or Best Buy counteracts!

Re: Amazon Lowers Free Shipping Threshold Again to $25

This is good news. I was always of the opinion that $50 was too much as a minimum for free shipping. I joined with others who were outraged at that policy change, oftentimes I had a hard enough time reaching their $25 minimum for free shipping, $50 was ridiculous for an online retailer like Amazon. I hope this change is not just on a temporary/trial basis, that it's more of a permanent change, I think it will be good for everyone. I, too, am curious what Walmart, Best Buy, and Target will do with this news.

Anyone know if prime members are exempt from the add-on items rules. Can a prime member buy an add on item and have it shipped prime?

I don't think so. I believe an add-on item is an add-on item regardless of whether you subscribe to Prime or not. If I'm wrong then someone please correct me.

That has been my experience as well.

No. "Add on" is "Add on" for everyone. Absolutely stupid policy. Even if they want to exclude these from Prime, at least let me pay actual shipping rather than have to hit a minimum. What makes it especially stupid on their part is almost every time I do order a "Add on" item it's shipped *separately* from the rest of the order!

"Add On" items are like that, because Amazon would lose money every time someone bought one if it weren't an add on item. If they weren't in the Add On Program, they would need to be marked a few dollars higher (which usually lands them above retail price).

But if you have prime they could just ship it with. If I bought a 19.99 BD with a 5.99 add on CD, shipping the BD prime and the CD separate still costs them money.

Went back and read the terms again. Missed the part about, if you have $25 of prime items in an order the add ons ship prime along with.

I thought as long as the total including the add on was over $25 it worked. Even if it was $25 worth of add on items.

If you are a prime member, and want the add on items shipped 2 day prime shipping, there must be $25 of prime eligible items in order.

I think you're referring to non-prime shipping.

Prime or no Prime I thought as long as the total was over $25, included add on items shipped. I didn't think the total before add on items had to be $25. Then again, I may be wrong and we can't order $25 worth of add on items.

You're right. For a prime member to get the add ons shipped prime, the order must include at least $25 of prime eligible items.
If a prime member orders just $25 of add ons then they ship standard like everybody else.
If a prime member has combination with less than $25 of prime items then the prime items ship separate from the add ons.

Re: Amazon Lowers Free Shipping Threshold Again to $25

Ordered a dvd set that was 29.99 plus two add on cds. Everything shipped two day prime. What's weird is they split it into two packages arriving together. One of the add ons was shipped by itself. Go figure????

The only reason I can find behind this policy is to prevent a ton of orders from prime members for just one 4.99 item shipped free.

Some of it could be that some people (myself included) will split up an order into individual orders to get digital credit for every item.

Which they could alleviate by offering a digital credit for each item in an order instead of 1 offer per order.

Yeah, I've went to eBay many times when I didn't want to order $35 or $49 of stuff from Amazon. Lowering it to $25 will get me to spend more again at Amazon.
