....And Kino is releasing this which is a big shocker to me.

If they can do the Theatrical Cut with unaltered Mono sound effects, I would be satisfied.

Woah! The big question will be whether or not they're going to be adjusting the color timing. I'm of the belief that the color timing on the current 4k transfer is much more correct than people give it credit for, but it's still all kinds of wrong.

I'll be keeping an eye on this. If it's better that the version that I already have.
I'll double.. I mean triple dip on it. But that's yet to be seen.

I'll be keeping an eye on this as well. As long as it's not an egg yolk in the video department, I'll be purchasing.

An MGM insider (Jameson over on the Classic Horror boards) confirmed that the theatrical cut is made from the existing master MGM used for the last issue of the film (i.e the green skies edition).
Those hoping for different color grading on the theatrical cut are likely to be disappointed.

If that is true, then what is the point of re-releasing this again? I'm hoping Kino has heard all the criticism of the current color grade and correct it to how its looked for the past 40 years before MGM's "improvements".

That I get. I think the Theatrical Cut is superior too which is why I'm excited. It seems like such a wasted opportunity not to fix the color scheme since the effort is there to release the Theatrical Cut and untampered mono.

Yay. I think.
The last one had some major visual issues. The blacks are crushed. And th tint to it is bothersome. No way was that film supposed to look that way.

I'm still curious on why Kino is releasing this and not Fox, especially since Fox has re-released its own two Blu-rays of the film a billion times over at this point.

the most recent blu had the cinematographer supervise the look and the restoration, so maybe that's how it is supposed to look (or that's how it looked live on the set

I don't think it was the cinematographer. I think it was the assistant cameraman, but whatever. From what I've seen, the original was yellowish, just not THIS yellow. As snake, I mean nwo4life said, there's a whole lot of black crush as well. All things considered, it's probably much closer than the more neutral color of the older releases, but it's off in ways that make the whole thing look kind of ugly.

After our announcement of the Sergio Leone masterpiece, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, some fans shared their concerns regarding the "yellowishness" of the 4K restoration. We looked into this issue and here are some split screen of the before and after work.
Spoiler:
MGM on Left, Kino on right.

Wonder if this'll be a gateway to the rest of the Leone films FINALLY getting their due on Blu-ray?

I think this is going to be a triple dip for me. I think I bought the DVD and the Blu-ray set. Now, I'll get the Kino set.

I never upgraded from my DVD because of all the various issues with the BD releases (even though the DVD I have, has the MGM Audio Issues), so I'm looking forward to this.

Well, I went to the Kino link to check out the screen shots and left/right comparisons. Eli Wallach's teeth look so white it's as though he just left "bright smile" for a bleaching. That's one desperado meticulous about his grooming! The fabric behind Wallach is also very white. Anything that's been out in the elements will quickly fade and yellow...believe me, I've lived in Arizona for 40 years. I'm holding on to my remastered set of the "Man With No Name Trilogy." Something just isn't right about those pics. Yeah, the MGM is yellow but the Kino pics appear to exhibit filtering that may alter the intended atmosphere for the film. I'm not a fan of screen caps as a representation of a moving image, but I'm not ready to jump on board this release until I hear/see more.

The minute people hear of a new version released, we get a rush of jubilation. I have to say, based on these images that Kino posted on Facebook, I would be very cautious about calling this an improvement. I may be wrong, but to my eyes, it appears a bit too bright white...and dare I say, teal! Gone is the gritty feel of Wallach's character. He's neither good, bad or ugly! ...more like a guy dressed up like a cowboy for a masquerade party! Okay boys, saddle up! We're a headin' to Brokeback Mountain! Yee Ha!

You'd be surprised at how off detail they were period productions were for those Italian dudes. I'm going to guess that they didn't care about that stuff.
The cap does worry me a bit. It does look a bit teal. A cap is a cap is a cap or something, right? I do want to learn more about this look from a critic's viewpoint. See where they really went with this thing playing for them. I think the first two films need work on them too. I don't remember. I actually never saw them even though i have the last set with the weird looking TGTBTU. Don't know why.
