I passed on getting the 2016 edition. Just don't have enough time to dedicate to a baseball sports game. Not sure if this next edition would make any difference for me. Baseball games need a lot of time to dedicate to them and I have too many other games and media on my plate.

I'll probably get the MVP version. Nice looking steel book.

Very nice - at least I don't have to look at a damn Cub uniform on the cover.

That steelbook looks really great but that and the extras aren't worth it for me. I'll stick to the standard version.

XBox had the MLB 2K series, but the series was cancelled after the 2013 release. 2K decided not to renew the license with MLB.

I'm sure the Xbox guys here are aware of the 2k series. I think those games very consistently pulled 7/10 ratings. I don't even know why they bothered releasing them to the PS3 - they should have made it an exclusive just to make the 360 peeps feel better.

Re: MLB The Show 17 (with Ken Griffey Jr.) -- 3/28/17 (PS4)

So this comes out next Tuesday. Anyone planning to pick it up?

I'm iffy on picking it up clearly from a time perspective. I used to love playing baseball video games, but now I don't really have a hell of a lot of free time for gaming and baseball video games are extremely time consuming. I don't really have 4-5 hours a day to play this. I barely get enough time with my NBA and NFL games.

It looks great though. I picked up The Show 2 seasons ago and honestly I feel like I wasted my money on it. I barely played it and before I knew it, the season was over and the game was dated.

I feel the exact same way... the time commitment is just too much.

Gotta say, "Arcade Mode" sounds pretty awesome though.

Going to pass this year. I think this is the first one since around '08 that I haven't bought.
They need to add classic teams like NBA 2k does. That would certainly renew my interest.

With Zelda and Switch occupying the gaming time I do have this will have to wait until later in the season. Maybe I'll catch it on sale.

You know what, I never thought about classic teams. That would be a really cool feature. I'm surprised The Show doesn't have it. But, maybe licensing all those teams from the past would be way too difficult. I think there's probably way too many teams and players. Plus, it would probably be too difficult to license the likeness of say Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig etc if they want to go back that far.

I would love to play as the 88 Dodgers vs. the 91 Braves & such.

It's probably much easier for the NBA since the rosters are much smaller.

Re: MLB The Show 17 (with Ken Griffey Jr.) -- 3/28/17 (PS4)

I got a chance to play a little this morning. So far it's great. Just enough changes to the gameplay to make this feel fresh over last years game. I got to play a couple of innings while the game was installing and it seems they took the time to fix some of the annoying as fuck animations such as fielders lollygagging an underhand throw causing an easy out to be safe.

I started an RTTS. Didn't get too far yet. Created my guy and let him do the workout and then I played one game during the scouting phase. After each leg, they give you the option to skip the rest and go straight to the draft, which is a nice feature. I ended up getting drafted in the 4th round to the White Sox. I didn't get the option to go back to college like in previous games. I don't know if they removed it totally or if I didn't get the chance because I answered agreeably to being drafted by the White Sox.

Looking forward to a big roster update with all the minor league players. That'll be when I dive head first into franchise mode.

I don't know if I can resist pulling the trigger on this game. I love the idea of it so much... but the truth is, I don't have time to play enough to justify the purchase.

I never play sports games enough to justify a purchase.

I saw it in the store -- Man that Steelbook is pretty.

Did they change the steelbook artwork? Your pic is different than the one from the original post (which I thought looked pretty spiffy)

EDIT: Or maybe it's just a slip over the steelbook?

Yes, the other one was just a placeholder until they decided on the right picture. It really looks sharp when you see it in person.

That's exactly it. I told the Yankees GM I wasn't really happy about being drafted by them and he hung up on me

I was then able to go back to school.

Re: MLB The Show 17 (with Ken Griffey Jr.) -- 3/28/17 (PS4)

I recently got the game after it was on sale at Best Buy. It's the first time that I've played it in like 5-6 years. Been doing the RTTS for the most part, created a starting pitcher, was drafted by the Nationals and everything was fine until I got to the 3rd year (second in AAA) and the team had no fucking catcher. Seriously. The Nationals only had 2 catchers in the organization but they surely had 27 starting pitchers and 22 left fielders. Well, the team kept putting outfielders as catchers and they couldn't catch jack shit. Every game ever since that 3rd year started, the "catchers" have averaged 12 passed balls. I have allowed in 5 games a total of 2 earned runs but they have scored 21 runs in the games against me. WTF? Seriously, Sony still hasn't fixed a flaw from 5-6 years? How the hell does this still happen? It has seriously ruined the game experience.

I agree that they need to add classic teams to this game like NBA 2k does. They might as well add the World Baseball Classic teams too to make it more interesting. Also, they need to stop being cheapskates with their in game currency to improve created players.

Re: MLB The Show 17 (with Ken Griffey Jr.) -- 3/28/17 (PS4)

I submitted the bug I mentioned above to the Sony MLB team on their forum and the response I got was

We are aware of this issue and are working to correct it for next years game. Thank you
So they know it happens and that it fucks up their heavily touted RTTS, yet they didn't do anything about it this year? The same thing that has happened over the past years and still they haven't fixed.
