Spoon announce new album Hot Thoughts
Spoon have announced a new album, Hot Thoughts. During an interview on SiriusXM Volume’s “Debatable,” one of the hosts revealed the title, which nobody in the band disputed. One of the band members also said that it’s out March 17 before the others claimed they didn’t know the exact date. They agreed, however, that it will likely be out in March, indicating that the timing could line up for them maybe to perform at SXSW. Pitchfork has reached out to Spoon’s representatives for more information and comment.
Elsewhere in the discussion, they acknowledged the new songs they played at a “secret” show. They said “it was cool” to see how people responded to the new material. Listen to the interview here (via Consequence of Sound).
Since the release of their last album, They Want My Soul, Spoon reissued their 2005 album Gimme Fiction for its 10-year anniversary. In 2015, they crashed (and performed at) a Spoon cover band’s show. In 2016, Daniel and Alex Fischel debuted a new song at a Mexico City concert. Spoon fueled speculation about a new record in December when they posted a mysterious image across their social media accounts and on their website.
My favorite current band! I'm beyond excited!!

They've had this taco before. It's okay.
Oh, and in addition to the 3 concerts, they'll be playing at Waterloo Records. Decent size stage outside, so I may drop by and catch it since I work close by, and it's free. I'm digging the new song as well.

If you want that purple vinyl, it's an exclusive through Matador's site.

Got the vinyl yesterday.
Gave it a spin, and maybe it's too early, but it's just alright. I'd say it's lower-tier Spoon, which is still not bad, but not as great at their top 4 or 5 best albums.

I've only listened to the first side but it's hitting all the right notes for me. I'm a pretty big fan though so likely not the most impartial. Look forward to a tour announcement.

I'm bummed that I totally missed them playing a local small venue just a couple weeks ago, as I only just found out about it the day after they played. It's only 20 minutes from my house, and around the corner from my work. Their next "local" show is at the Hollywood Bowl, which is an hour away and a pain in the ass.
But I have seen them around 5 times, so no big loss.

This tour will be my fifth time seeing them, provided they play Detroit.

Album gets better the more I listen to it.
Vinyl sounds great, CD is crushed and brick-walled.
Good a place as any for my Spoon album rankings, IMO:
1. Kill the Moonlight
2. Gimme Fiction
3. Gagagagaga
4. Hot Thoughts
5. They Want My Soul
6. Transference
7. Love Ways ep
8. Series of Sneaks
9. Girls Can Tell
10. Telephono/Soft Effects
