Final Fantasy XV Discussion Thread (Nov 29th, 2016 / PS4, Xbox One)

I thought we had a thread on this already, but I can't seem to find it.

Anyhow, the 4.5gb Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo came out last night so I figured it needed a thread.

Xbox One Demo Download Link
PS4 Demo Download Link

Is this one another MMORPG or is it a regular FF game?

Is the demo different than the one released with Type 0?

Standard FF game, non-MMO.

According to The Verge, it's a "New, very weird Final Fantasy XV Demo", apparently it's not a demo taken from the game, but is a side story that takes place in the main characters head as a young child.

Sounds kind of like an intro chapter, like Ground Zeroes.

Didn't know there was a new download. Can't wait to check it out this weekend.

If the release schedule stays consistent, this should fall right in the middle of FF14 patches, which would work out perfectly for me.

I was looking for a thread on this yesterday too, couldn't find one, and was too lazy to create it.

Play the demo this morning. Gorgeous graphics, trying to get use to the battle system. I like how you step on the plates like changing the weather or time speed up, very unique and cool.

Re: Final Fantasy XV Discussion Thread (Sep 30th, 2016 / PS4, Xbox One)

I'm a huge FF fan but man, I'm just not impressed. Other than shiny graphics, it just feels dated and janky. The camera is atrocious, as is the frame rate (seems to be running well under 30 fps almost at all times). The combat seems ridiculously simplistic too. I'll still buy the game, but this definitely didn't make me excited for it. Maybe I would feel better if I've played the previous demo, but I'm not going to buy a crappy Vita port just for a demo.

If this wasn't a Final Fantasy demo, I wouldn't of even finished it.

Re: Final Fantasy XV Discussion Thread (Sep 30th, 2016 / PS4, Xbox One)

Copied from my most recent post in the Steelbook thread :

Final Fantasy Kingsglave is coming out tomorrow. There is a Steelbook that is NOT store-exclusive, but it's worth noting that it's $19.99 but is qualifying for the GCU 20% discount (even though it shouldn't -- it's a movie based on a Video Game series, not a video game) and is $15.99 after discount.

This is what it looks like :

Not nearly as pretty as the Steelbook that comes with FF XV Deluxe edition,

but works out to be like $10-$15 cheaper for the same content (game, movie and a Steelbook).

The deluxe edition comes with the Kingsglaive Blu, doesn't it?

Re: Final Fantasy XV Discussion Thread (Sep 30th, 2016 / PS4, Xbox One)

Yes. Game, Kingsglave Blu Ray, Exclusive Steelbook and a couple of embarrassingly slight digital items :

It retails for $89.99 ($71.99 w/ GCU)

The Day One edition of the game does not have the Blu Ray of the movie or a Steelbook.
Spoiler:

But you can get the Blu Ray of the movie and a different Steelbook for $19.99 ($15.99 w/ GCU)
That makes the total cost of that package (Game + Movie in SteelbooK) to be $79.98 ( $63.98 w/ GCU)

So the difference is that the Deluxe version costs $10 more ($8 more with GCU), has a different Steelbook and includes two more digital DLC items (an outfit and a different color for a car).

In addition there is also a Digital Deluxe Edition that doesn't include the movie (or the Steelbook -- obviously) but does include the Season Pass.

Re: Final Fantasy XV Discussion Thread (Sep 30th, 2016 / PS4, Xbox One)

I saw that Clueless Gamer episode and thought this is a weird, weird game. Granted, I haven't played FF since SNES and I know the series has changed a lot since its D&D/LOTR-style roots, but what I saw just seems... odd.

Will this be the first time Clueless Gamer helps tank a game or will this do well no matter what?

Can't wait to get a NES Classic in my hands and play the original FF this winter.

I read elsewhere that its 72 hours in game time, which is actually 3 hours. Still pretty damn long.

It could also show up randomly through the 3 days of playtime like Nenesis from Resident Evil 3.

I didn't actually watch the video, didn't want to spoil much. I thought it was a boss fight that took that amount of time, but from what you said it sounds like it is just "wait" X amount of time?

Re: Final Fantasy XV Discussion Thread (Sep 30th, 2016 / PS4, Xbox One)

The Clueless Gamer segment does look bad... but it also shows surprisingly little of the actual game, it's just small clips. As a devoted fan of Final Fantasy on NES as a kid I loved the earlier installments but starting with Final Fantasy X the series has nosedived for me focusing more on cinematics than gameplay (I literally stopped playing X because I kept getting interrupted by cut scenes). I really want to like Final Fantasy XV and have it along with season pass on pre-order but seeing them shift to an action RPG perspective and that Clueless Gamer segment are making me hate myself a little for still having some faith in Final Fantasy series. Fingers crossed they pull out a win with this one.

Yeah, if I was at all interested in FFXV, that Conan bit makes me want to stay far, far fucking away from it. It makes it look like all the worst elements of every FF games clobbered into one. And the modern-day setting doesn't help at all. Can we please get an FF that takes us back to the "middle ages" or something again?

For everyone complaining about how XV looks I HIGHLY recommend giving World of Final Fantasy a shot. I'm 45 hours in and it is one of the best FF games I've ever played.

The Conan thing was amusing but does nothing to give me an actual impression of how FF XV actually is given how they basically took a bunch of sequences out of context that seem pretty typical for a JRPG.
