Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only like the Welcome Package. Also remember that any preliminary codes are just that and BN could pull it, change the details or exclusions anything prior to release so always a bit of YMMV until the final release date

Mini FAQ
Coupons should not work for PREORDERS , Nook, Legos, Rosetta Stone, Digital, Gift Cards, Memberships, etc. There are glitches where sometimes an excluded item will be allowed but assume that is the exception to the rule
Free Shipping is $25 (before tax/shipping) or with membership.
Max 3 GC on a single online order.
Online only a single code can be applied to an order
Return period is 14 days after delivery (possibly 30 days for members though I've never tried)
Online ordered items can returned to a local store unless it's classified as a web-only item then it's at the store's discretion to accept
The long standing Free 60 day Trial Offer was discontinued in late May 2016

The "Rules"

What is This Thing?

Since its inception in 2005 the goal of this challenge has been to watch 100 horror films in a month's time. Obviously that's not an attainable goal for everyone, so your personal goal is of your choosing. Whether it's achieved, surpassed or beyond your reach, the ultimate goal here is to enjoy yourself while conversing with fellow genre fans.
Creating a List.

As always, there will be a separate list thread posted roughly 2 weeks prior (possibly sooner!) to the October 1st start date. Be creative and personalize your list however you wish - give reviews, post pics, link to your blog or start one on your page, provide IMDB links with your titles, add YouTube videos, include running times, etc.

The forum software now allows for unlimited post length, although you're still welcome to post it in a weekly or biweekly format. Also be aware the image limit has been raised from 35 to 60. And it's not a bad idea to provide a link to the list in your signature for easier access.

The date for list completion is November 15.

The only mandatory rule here is NUMBER YOUR LISTS!

What Counts?

If you're uncertain of the title's genre classification the IMDB and AllMovie are the go-to sources for determining its potential horror movie status.
Need more confirmation? A third and fourth option exists and that is FlickChart (requires free sign up) and TMDB.
Of course, any site is prone to the occasional error and if you feel that's the case asking in the discussion thread is advised.
Just keep in mind that the #1 deciding factor regarding what counts is you and you alone.

Feature FilmsCounts as 1 entry
Short FilmsAdd them up to total 90 minutes to get 1 entry
Television ShowsAdd them up to 120 minutes (including commercials) to get 1 entry

Movies = 1 entry (despite running time)

TV shows count according to length as they're aired on TV (including commercials):

30 minute shows = ¼ an entry
1 hour shows = ½ an entry
90 minute shows = ¾ an entry
2 hour shows = 1 entry

Mini-Series = 1 entry for each day it aired

Commentaries count. (no restrictions)

Documentaries count.

A SLIGHTLY MORE COMPLICATED EXPLANATION:
Spoiler:

Concerning TV shows and shorts films:

Like the other challenges, you need four 30 minute shows for 1 entry and two hour-long shows for 1 entry. 30 minute shows typically run roughly 22 - 24 minutes without commercials and hour-long shows are roughly 43 - 45 minutes. If it's short films that are 10 minutes or less, once you hit around 23 minutes of watching them, you've reached one 30 minute show (¼ an entry). Any combination that gets you to 90 minutes can be used for 1 entry. And this is not an exact science, so if you're off by a little it's really no big deal.

When listing the TV shows try to keep them together in 1 entry.
(Example: 30 min show/30 min show/30 min show/30 min show)

For the sake of organization, it's advised that you keep a Temporary TV section at the bottom of your list until you get enough for an entry.

Why 90 minutes? To keep the continuity going with the other challenges.

Every facet of horror counts: Horror-comedies, Sci-Fi horror, wretchedly bad horror [INSERT CURRENT REMAKE HERE], kiddie horror, creature features, erotic / XXX horror, Masters of Horror, silents, made-for-TV movies, etc.

The formats and how you watch them is strictly your call -- 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, Netflix Watch Instantly, HD DVD, at the theater, on television, public domain downloads (links provided below), VHS, Laserdisc, Video On Demand, Netflix disc-by-mail, UMD, MiniDV, CED, Amazon Instant Video, through your neighbor's window, Roku, Google Chromecast, Apple TV, a Boxee Box, Amazon Fire TV, Hulu, Youtube, Pay-per-view, Betamax, via laptop, netbook, VCD, a smartphone, a tablet ...you name it. And yes, that even includes the pan & scan, edited-for-television movies that air on TBS with obnoxious on-screen graphics and commercial interruptions (NOT recommended!). Just make sure the film is viewed in it's entirety.
Row #6 - Proud to be unoccupied since 2010!
You're welcome to include non-genre titles viewed during the month in your list, but please keep them separate from your qualifying entries and don't number them.
Sometime in November there will be a results thread posted. If you wish to be included in the stats provided (aside from your number ranking), please include the following in your list:

- First time viewings. The thing is a commonly used symbol.
- Formats viewed. (BD, DVD, NWI, etc.)
- Your personal goal ...even if it happens to be the challenge's goal of 100.

Keep it civil. The intention here is to have fun, so please don't take this event started by a guy with just a little too much time on his hands that seriously.

THE OPTIONAL STUFF
LISTS ARE ON PAGE 2 OF THIS THREAD & IN THE LIST THREAD

THEME NIGHTS
31 FILM SUBSET
THE CHECKLIST
3 WILD CARDS
This adds daily "themes" with accompanying links to horror sub-genres, studios, actors, directors and even a group marathon with the intention of watching said content on the designated day. This year's list is HERE..
Watch these 31 films on the listed day, with group discussion starting the next morning or at your own leisure. Feel free to join the discussion regardless of whether or not you watch them.

Also, the threads from the 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 Subset Lists and even the short-lived HFC List can be used for individual discussion if desired. This year's list is HERE.
.
Complete it and feel a sense of accomplishment. The Expanded Checklist is HERE.

***Please include within spoiler tags to keep the list thread from running a mile long.***
Use for titles that lie outside the horror genre and normally wouldn't qualify or for those questionable titles you're not 100% certain about. They can also be used to count titles that aren't intended to be included as a full entry (I.E. a leftover 30-minute TV episode or short film). You have 3 so use them wisely.

For every 100 movies watched, you earn 1 extra wild card.
PRE-CHALLENGE THREAD ALERT!
HELP BUILD THE OPTIONAL TABLES HERE.

HELPFUL TIPS & VARIOUS LINKS

LINKS UPDATED, BUT MORE IS COMING!

Provide a link to your list in your signature.
Review it. Even if it's just a mini-review, a simple / or one word description.
Subscribe to this thread for the latest posts (Thread Tools → Subscribe to this Thread).

Create a list in advance of what you plan to watch utilizing a site such as:
iCheckMovies | Listal
| Listology | ListPhile | FlickChart | Ranker.

If you're indecisive and can't decide what to watch next copy/paste your titles into the List Randomizer (via random.org).

If you're doing a checklist, putting it in a spoiler tag makes the list thread much easier to read.
Increase your coffee consumption.
Insomniac? Use your disadvantage to your advantage!
Work from home? Ditto.
Save the supplemental material for November!
Boredom setting in? Watch another movie!
Stay within your comfort level and try not to get too caught up in the numbers.
ENJOY YOURSELF!

Also, be aware that very few subscribers are getting posts from the page due to Facebook being one greedy bastard.
If you hover your mouse over the "Liked" button and click 'Get Notifications' this should fix the problem.

Third thread in with still a week left... even if main thread posts are down the list thread is still bursting.

The Bees is a delightfully fun movie, newscaster style pseudoscience mixed with random bee swarming footage giving it a surreal vibe. Expecting a b movie with some camp you could do worse - it seems like each character thinks they're in a different movie with a cartoonist scientist and a melodramatic scientist.

I may have to give it a try. I watched The Deadly Bees which was rather fun but a bit boring. Perhaps it's a trope of bee movies, because this film had two lackadaisical police detectives and a musical agent that were in a very different movie.

As for forum discussion, I know I'm part of the problem. I keep track of the discussion, but I don't often contribute. I need to be better about that.

The Curse. I've been going down the list and reading selected stories from H.P. Lovecraft Goes to the Movies before watching the films associated with them. This and Die Farbe are this year's first time viewing standouts.

Curse II: The Bite - Obviously a tacked on sequel in name only. I was getting bored with it, until it really picked up in the second half. My favorite husky-voiced scream queen, Jill Schoelen steals the show.

Cherry Tree - Exploitative Rosemary's Baby clone with gore and nudity. It's a fun ride.

Kill That Bitch - Occasionally when short on time I'll watch films with shorter running times (68 min here) just to squeeze another one in. Indie horror is always a gamble and this one's only saving grace is the plentiful nudity.

The Dark Power - Instantly reminded me of Fred Olen Ray's schlock-fest Scalps, but a lot more fun. Watching a drunk and slurring geriatric Lash La Rue using his signature bullwhip was a riot.

Clown - I'll echo past recommendations. Makes a great double feature with Stitches.

Young woman afraid to fall asleep because a disfigured killer manifests from her dreams and murders her friends.

Nightmare on Elm Street, right?

No!

Imagine my surprise when this similar plot arose in The Slayer, released TWO YEARS before Craven's flick.

Are the dedicated threads for the theme night films very active? I forget to check those but haven't been watching those films this year either. From general posts I get the feeling there are quite a few participants in theme nights.

I know I've not posted as much mainly because I've watched exclusively from my unopened pile. I should comment about each film I've watched but just haven't. I've also not seen many of the films others are commenting on so don't have anything to add to the discussion.

RE: I Married a Witch

That's a long time favorite and I was thrilled when it was released by Criterion. My oldest grandkids all love Bewitched and I need to introduce them to I Married a Witch and Bell, Book and Candle since they were primary inspirations for that series.

I think the election stuff has distracted people from spending more time in the forum, IMO.

Are you still sticking with 100% theme days? I was going to read your most recent titles on your list, but then saw you are about to break 200. That made me sad for myself. Or at least jealous.

I can't speak for others, but as I get older it is a little harder for me to see as many movies as I want and still make comments. I usually want to comment about every Subset Film, and I have had many comments to make. My problem is I am so slow to watch the movies that by the time we get done watching at night my wife is ready for bed. I can either go to bed with her or write comments. I much prefer bed with the wife so...

Going to be finishing off the checklist requirements on the 26th with my theme night viewing of the day. But will be cutting it close on the 100, as always. No late night Halloween view-a-thons for me as I have to be at work at 5 on Nov 1st.

I know I have said this every year for the last 3 years but this is probably (a lot more probably than the last few times) going to be my last year hitting the 100. Just too many life demands.

Tonight I got in my eighth viewing of the month with the Evil Dead remake on Blu-ray. It was my second time seeing it since it's theatrical premiere, and besides the opening sequence which could be cut out(except for maybe the first half which is well done), it's a good movie with some impressive gore and gross out moments.

Did you pay attention to the music that seemed misused in more than a couple scenes?

I just found my two remaining actor checks with unwatched things. Famous T&A is both unopened and unwatched. The Horror Show is something I've seen before but my bluray is unopened.

After that it's Night of the Demons, Brain of Blood, and Nightmares.

Maybe I'll try and finish off the subsets too. Don't think I'll make it plus it only takes one dud to throw me off track.

Nightmare on Elm Street, right?

No!

Imagine my surprise when this similar plot arose in The Slayer, released TWO YEARS before Craven's flick.
Is it any good?

I have managed to make a huge dent in what I'd had piling up on the DVR. Finished off season 2 of Scream, got caught up on American Horror Story: Roanoke and am wrapping up season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead. I haven't watched as many movies as I'd have liked to, but I'm also not really forcing myself to watch stuff like in years past.

here here... and work doesn't help either this year. I've also got a big deadline for the end of this month.

You had me at Famous T&A...

I'm at episode 9, but am becoming disillusioned (too much teenage drama, not enough chills and thrills)... should I keep going?

Congrats to davidh777 and Shack!!

I'm having a more difficult time with today's theme than I expected I would. Maybe because I'm only trying to find FTVs.

If it is the Full Moon dvd release, it is non-anamorphic and the quality sucks. There are much better T&A compilations out there.

Recent views:

Night Train Murders (1975) or rather The Last Train On The Left. Basically an Italian version of Last House On The Left but set on a train. Pretty sleazy with a couple of parts that made me grimace. One with a creepy old guy and another with a knife. I will just leave it at that.

Poltergeist (1982) - The original and one of the best horror films of the 80's if not all time. This one still gets to me and is still intense as ever. It scares me for completely different reasons now as a parent than it did when I was a child. But it still scares me. That is impressive.

Chained (2012) - This one was quite impressive until the final part where they just had to throw a stupid, unnecessary twist at the end. When are filmmakers going to learn sometimes unknown reasons make many situations all the scarier? Plus
Spoiler:
the brother acts in a completely stupid way at the end. Why the fuck would he just start viciously attacking his wife in that situation? Made no sense to me.
A good serial killer movie with a rotten ending. And are we sure nothing is really wrong with Vincent D' Onofrio?

Dracula (1979) - Serviceable adaptation with poor special effects that appear were the same from 1931. What really confused me is I went into this movie initial thinking it was Love At First Bite. Now that is some serious confusion.
