MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

I have 10 friend invites to give away, just pm me with your email. Not available for public until 2013 or 2014.

MoviePass is a discounted movie pass with a credit card-like that allows you to watch unlimited 2D movie at the kiosk for just $29.99 per month or $359.88 annually. My area is charging me $34.99 monthly and some areas charge as low as $19.99 depending on where you live.

Restrictions:
You can see one 2D movie per day includes Marathon, and Future Dates, no 3D, IMAX or ETX.
You can see each movie one time, not twice
Your MoviePass is non-transferable

http://www.moviepass.com

EDIT I: No more invite...sorry

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

PM sent! Never heard of this, but it sounds awesome! I had no idea how this worked, so Googled it, and found this. It sounds like an iPhone app is required, but Android is supposedly coming.

http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/02/m...nd-card-combo/

MoviePass is back, and rather than waiting for the cooperation of the movie theaters, they've found a workaround to make their service work at nearly any US theater. Right now the service is invite only (try to get into the beta right here), but once you get invited, you download an iPhone app and a reloadable credit/debit card that together, pay a $30 monthly service, and this promising new service is now at your fingertips for maximum movie watching. More details below!

Here's a rundown from the press release at Engadget for how the service works:

How It Works:

CHECK-IN AT THEATER: Members use their MoviePass app to check-in at a theater of their choice and select a movie and showtime, which unlocks their MoviePass reloadable debit card.

PURCHASE TICKET: The member then retrieves their ticket for their desired movie by visiting the theater kiosk and using their MoviePass card, exactly how they would use their own credit card at the kiosk.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

Thanks a ton! I'm so very psyched that this will work at all of the theaters in town except the cash-only art house theater. I'm a little surprised that it works at the dollar theater, but it's nice to know.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

Thanks for the invite, iNCREDiPiNOY! For those who already use MoviePass, is it truly as easy as it seems? It sounds totally worth it, especially since Marathons (granted, none usually occur in my city) and Special Events are included. Is Imax included? I know you said ETX is not, so I assume no Imax as well. Granted, usually 3D films play on the Imax screen, but every now and then you get something like Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

It's just a prepaid Discover card. It all depends on how much they put on the card when you check in at the theater. If they put enough on the card to cover a 3D (or IMAX, or whatever) admission at your theater, then there's probably no reason why you couldn't use it. If they don't put enough on the card, I don't see why there's any reason you couldn't ask the counter jockey to put $10 on your card and let you pay the rest in cash. The theaters aren't active participants in this program, they're just processing a credit card.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

So how does the company turn a profit? That's the part I seem to be missing.

If the OP is out of them, hit me up. Will be out of town until early next week, but happy to help out.

It basically works like insurance. They're betting that in the long run you won't go to the movies enough to cover the fixed fee cost you're paying them per month.

Not sure if there are additional agreements with Discover and the theaters or whatnot, but that seems to be the bread and butter of their business plan.
