Re: Seventh Annual Drive-In/Exploitation Challenge 2016 RESULTS

Yay! It took me way too long to figure out the color system! I'm impressed with everyone's numbers. I did as much as I could given how busy I was last month. This is one of the challenges that gets me outside of my usual comfort zone. However, I was pretty conservative this year, sticking to mostly to sci-fi B-movies.

I have abandoned most things in life this year. I'll try to update tonight.

And belated thanks for once again running things. The discussion thread is always a fun read with such a diverse fare.

My Cable & Internet was Turned Off on April 5, but I continued to watch and keep track of the stuff I watched and put the rest of the list up when c&I got reconnected on May 7.

Total = 87
FTVs = 13

Re: Seventh Annual Drive-In/Exploitation Challenge 2016 RESULTS

Oh, man. I still have a few titles to update. Will try and get it done right now!

EDIT! Done. Finally. Except for maybe checklist items, but the main list is finished for another year. I totally forgot my mind this past couple of weeks. Didn't do as well in the challenge this year, mostly having to forgo it in the last week of April, but did end with Dangerous Men on the 30th.. But 19 titles isn't bad and I still had a blast.
Thanks to everyone once again and sorry for the delays.

Re: Seventh Annual Drive-In/Exploitation Challenge 2016 RESULTS

Thanks, Caligula!

I never put up big numbers in this challenge, but I do appreciate the chance to watch some wacky stuff that I might not have the time for if I weren't getting "credit." This year was about on par with my others numbers-wise, but I feel like I had big gaps and only got in a few bursts of watching.

OK, list is updated for the final time. This last edit messed up my formatting and I can't seem to fix it.

While I didn't make 100 this year, I enjoyed most of my movies, and was glad that I had so many enjoyable first time views.

Hey guys! Just wondering if we are going to have the challenge this year. I'm getting the bug and have already starting ordering titles for it. I guess I'll be doing it regardless of whether we're official or not.

Re: Seventh Annual Drive-In/Exploitation Challenge 2016 RESULTS

Yeah, I've been editing the thread and working on the thread cover picture. I'm paring things down a bit this year. I'm eliminating a few categories, as they are now covered by other challenges. For instance, we no longer need crime and gangster movies or Eurospy (but keeping Giallo), as they are covered by the Action movie challenge. Dropping Lifetime Movie. Dropping Bollywood. And I'm dropping "B-Movies". B-Movies were the biggest confuser and the most mundane element.

Hopefully this will make this challenge less unwieldy and more focused.

Sounds great! I will sort of miss the Lifetime movies aspect, but this challenge needed to be focused and streamlined for all those reasons. Won't miss Bollywood one single bit. Are we keeping current crap movies? I do like the Razzie picks and shit cinema, because when I do go to the drive-in (which only opens here in May), it's best to watch a bad film. I did so with Nine Lives just last summer. Anyway, this is the drive-in challenge, so even if it's limited to films of the true era, it will be great. Look forward to the updates and can't wait to begin.

What??? B-Movies are why I'm here! I hope what I consider "B-Movies" still qualify under some other category.

I'm looking forward to this challenge as well and while I will miss the B's a little bit I see your point. I have plenty of other stuff that will still qualify. In my case by B-movies I mean the short and often cheaply produced films made to fill out double bills in the 30's and 40's including stuff like the Charlie Chan movies and other series.

Re: Seventh Annual Drive-In/Exploitation Challenge 2016 RESULTS

I'm excited to see the revamp when it's unveiled! This is one of the monthly challenges (the other being October's horrorfest) that forces me to step out of my usual comfort zones. However, it did introduce me to the wonders of martial arts films for which I'm truly thankful!

I can't see turning any films away for being B-Movies. I'm just removing them from the checklist. You can still put them in your watch list. Most will still count under distributor safe list, like Roger Corman's Studios, Monogram Pictures, and the like.

So we're just talking about paring the checklist, and my cheapie Westerns still count!

That makes me feel better. I've been worried. Like Pacaway, B-Movies were the reason I first joined the Challenge in the first place.

Phew! Scared me! That's fine then. Also removed it from the title though, right?

The weather has been mild, so our local Drive-In opens last week of March this year. If you are lucky enough to have an open Drive-in theater ANY movie seen in it counts.

Yeah, those are still cool. I don't think I ever really had those on the checklist, anyway, other than European ones. If participants actually understand the concept of cheapie B-Movies then they are free to put them in. They likely sneak in under the studios, anyway. If there are any minor studios that made cheapie Westerns that I haven't already included let me know and I will add them to the safe list.
