Rare Replay Thread of How Retro Collections should work

So, what was the first game you played on RR?

I fired up RC Pro-Am, and got my ass kicked!

Then I fired up Grabbed by the Ghoulies, and damn - that game STILL looks awesome. Cell Shaded graphics are timeless (but not the storytelling methods, yikes).

Game is getting delivered today... I haven't played a lot of these as I never owned an N64, so I'm probably going to either start with some of those. Or maybe try and go chronologically.

I plan to play in order of release. I'll try to avoid using cheats as long as I can
I never played Battletoads arcade and NES versions. Should be a fun experience

Good luck with Battletoads. You will need it.

That game was brutally difficult. I played the heck out of it when I was a kid, but I could never get past the damn speeder bike level.

People who complain about difficult games today make me laugh. Even the most difficult games today are a breeze compared to the difficultly of some NES games.

Sounds pretty cool but too bad some of the bigger licensed titles they did like Donkey Kong Country and Goldeneye couldn't have been included. Obviously Nintendo probably wouldn't allow Donkey Kong to appear outside of their systems though.

Not sure of order but for certain my must plays are Blast Corp, RC Pro-Am and Cobra Triangle right off the bat. Personally can't wait to play almost all of them.

The kotaku reviewer pointed out that with this release, there are now more N64 classics available on Xbox One than on Nintendo's virtual console service. I have no idea if that's true - just thought it was interesting if it is.

I don't have an Xbox One, but this collection makes me wish I did just for the nostalgia of playing the titles from when Rare was Ultimate Play the Game.

Yeah, I wondered why Goldeneye couldn't be included here.

nostalgia rarely lives up to your impressions.

Even though Battletoads is still hard as fuck. Two players in the Wookie Hole might as well be renamed slam each other into the wall.

The first one. The second opens with a huge spoiler from the end of the first game.

Nuts & Bolts is a completely different sort of game (and not very good either).

Pretty sure they don't have the license to anything Bond anymore.

Honestly, Goldeneye doesn't hold up; even Perfect Dark was a bit of a letdown, but still a huge improvement over its predecessor's shortcomings.

I was honestly most excited for Snake, Rattle, and Roll of all the games in the collection; it is probably a top ten favorite NES title.

Disagree completely. The campaign is way better than most FPS campaigns now.

I never got around to playing Nuts & Bolts, but the Giantbomb crew frequently refer to it with reverence and call it the best Banjo game. Looking forward to finally trying it out.

Well it's super-different. It was pretty unusual as far as racers go. There are some cool things if you're into that user-created content stuff.
I didn't think it was that fun a racer and didn't play it much. IGN points out that it's the one conversion that suffers the most in this collection and runs with significantly more slowdown than the 360 version had.

Re: Rare Replay Thread of How Retro Collections should work

so, just to be certain, the first one is: Banjo-Kazooie?

is it like a typical platformer in the vein of Rayman and Mario?

Re: Rare Replay Thread of How Retro Collections should work

Yes, first one is Banjo-Kazooie. It's a 3D platformer, the type popularized in the early days of N64, PS1, like Mario 64, Gex. Think : Fight with the camera a lot, jump on baddies, collect stuff, fall off ledges.

You could always just scroll through the release date organized list of Rare Replay games while playing.

The games are organized in order of release. So when you scroll through the menu, B-K comes before B-K2.
