Gambit - X-Men spinoff -- S: Channing Tatum
Channing Tatum To Star As Gambit In Standalone X-MEN Film?
Gambit is a loved by many X-Men fans. The character first appeared on the silver screen in X-Men: Origins Wolverine where he was played by Taylor Kitsch. People have talked about a spinoff for years, a standalone Gambit film, however, seems to be back in the works. Lauren Shuler Donner, X-Men Producer, state in a recent interview with Empire Magazine, that Channing Tatum is on board to take on the lead role.
During a press conference last year, Tatum said commented on playing the role of gambit and this is what he had to say said at the time,
I personally, have mixed feelings about this. On one hand Channing has grown as an actor. I really enjoyed his role in Haywire and his 21 (and soon to be 22) Jump Street success is doing great things for his career. I’ll be going into this with a skeptical smirk on my face hopefully to come out of it with a smile. Lets just hope that we’re not all ready to riot in the streets after his performance (If the film does so happen to make it’s way to theaters.)

I’m dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn’t have to be a great big movie. It’s a thief in New Orleans, it’s a whole different story. He’s on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He’s such a sweetheart
I would like to play Gambit. Gambit’s my favourite. I’m from New Orleans, around that area. My dad’s from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real.
No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, ’cause I actually like his Gambit, but I’ve always lived around Cajun people. Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking guy. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He’s a thief. He kind of rode the line.

Re: Gambit (S: Tatum)
Seems kinda dumb to recast. The two of them are too similar. Josh Holloway or bust.

I'm fine with the casting and happy to see Gambit get some more exposure in the movie universe. He's always been my favorite X-Man and it's a shame that he was only in Wolverine: Origins.

I'm not sure I'd want to see Tatum as Gambit. Thinking of him in a comic book film, I think he'd make a decent John Walker (US Agent) if Marvel were to introduce the character into a Captain America sequel.

Channing Tatum to star as Gambit in 'X-men' Spinoff movie

Ehhh Not too sure about this one.
Actor Channing Tatum is set to join the mutant universe, playing Gambit in an “X-Men” standalone film.
Tatum previously had expressed interest in playing the character, whose given name is Remy LeBeau. A Cajun charmer from Louisiana, Gambit has the ability to control kinetic energy, often charging items he touches, turning them into explosives and throwing them as weapons (playing cards are a favorite).
Created by Chris Claremont and artist Jim Lee, the former thief made his comic book debut in 1990 and has been featured in several “X-Men” animated series and video games.

Frankly, I'm disgusted by the negativity in this thread.

The problem with Gambit in Wolverine wasn't Kitsch, but I also think Tatum will be fun.

a young Mickey Rourke would have made a great Gambit. Current Day Mickey Rourke would have been a great Gambit for the Patrick Stewart Ian Mckellan portion of Days of Future's Past.

Wasn't Rogue always kicking his ass though?

I always thought Under Siege era Steven Seagal would have made a perfect Gambit. Now he's a punchline, but back then he was a real bad ass. He also had a cool, understated sort of vibe that I thought fit well. At that time, JCVD was the name that always came up for Gambit, but other than the accent, I thought he was completely wrong for the character.
As far as Channing Tatum, goes...meh. I've never been a Tatum fan and from my point of view he doesn't fit Gambit at all. Gambit is not a leading man type of character. He's a guy who's best served slinking around in the shadows on the periphery. That said, I'm not really a Gambit fan, so it doesn't really bother me either way.

I actually like Tatum, and think he'd be good for a few superhero roles, but I don't see Gambit there.
