Denzel Washington’s ‘The Equalizer’ to Get Sequel
APRIL 22, 2015 | 07:39PM PT
Rumors about a potential follow-up to the R-rated movie started early in 2014, months prior the film’s September release, but the movie’s strong box office and home entertainment sales ultimately pulled the trigger on a sequel.
Washington is expected to reprise his role as vigilante Robert McCall. Chloe Moretz co-starred in the original.
Based on the 1980s TV show, “The Equalizer” earned $192 million at the box office in 2014. It was co-financed by Village Roadshow and debuted at the Toronto Film Festival.
Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”) directed the first “Equalizer.” He and Washington are next re-teaming on MGM’s remake of “Magnificent Seven,” which reunites the duo with “Training Day” actor Ethan Hawke.

Denzel Washington Returns as The Equalizer 2 Sets 2017 Release
By Silas LesnickJune 11, 2015
The Equalizer 2 is heading to theaters!
A sequel to Village Roadshow’s The Equalizer is on the way! Columbia Pictures has officially set a 2017 release date for the follow up to director Antoine Fuqua’s 2014 adaptation of the 1980s television series. The Equalizer 2 will hit the big screen September 29, 2017. That’s almost exactly three years after the first film opened.
In the first film, Denzel Washington stars as McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer.
Washington should definitely be returning for The Equalizer 2, although no director or additional cast has, as of yet, been confirmed. Washington is currently reteaming with Fuqua, however, for The Magnificent Seven, a remake of the John Sturges western classic that, in turn, was a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai.
The Equalizer 2 is the first film to claim that September 29, 2017 date.

Damn, I didn't realize Denzel was already 60. He's getting too old for this shit
But I guess if Liam is still cranking out Taken movies at 63, he can do it too.

I'm glad the "old guys kicking ass" genre made a comeback, albeit some are older (Gran Torino, Harry Brown) than others (Liam Neeson's recent output, Equalizer), makes Keanu look like the young pup of the crowd.
There's usually less bullshit involved in them when they do it right, just "I've been around, I know how this goes, lets get down to business."

I finally got around to watching this last month and also enjoyed it. Seemed like a slam dunk for a sequel.

Edward Woodward was 59 when the series ended but I always thought he was older. Denzel looks much younger than his actual age.

I really liked it as well but that security guard shit had to go - so cringe-worthy. No complaints about Denzel at all though.

The first film was really good and sort of left itself open to a sequel so I'm glad this is coming out. Fuqua and Washington make a good director/actor pairing. Hope Moretz is in this too but I'm sure the film will still be good if she's not involved.

However, this is still in development, no filming has started, though Antoine Fuqua is returning to direct.
