Stephen King's IT (2017, D: Andrés Muschietti)

I recently read an article saying that WB is going to make a new remake to 1990's IT. It is going to be written and directed by the same guys who wrote and directed the remake of Salem's Lot.
They've learned from their past mistakes about making a 4 hour movie and they're going to turn it into a 2 hour movie on the WB channle. Last time the main character in the book and in the mini series was Bill (Richard Thomas). This version will focus Beverly as the main character though, but all the characters Will have very major roles in the film. The Movie will be closer to the book including scenes from the book that the mini series did not show.
In this version it'll feature major character development including (which wasn't included in the mini series but the book) that
Ritchie Tozier is a cocaine addict. Rumors have spread upoun the net about the cast. Rumors include Conan O'Brien might be selected to play Ritchie. WB is negotiating with Tim Curry to dress up as the clown one more time to play Pennywise the clown. There is no release date just yet but is schedualed for a premire sometime during Spring 2005.

How are they going to pull all of this off in a 2 hour time frame? They barely touched on it using 4 hours, imo. If you've read the book, you know that 2 hours to go over "IT" is laughable at best.

how are they going to condense 1000 pages into 2 hours? I was excited until I read that part. They could almost do it like Kingdom Hospital, 13 episodes. That and the Stand would both work better as a series than a mini-movie of the week.

These corpret executives know that people got bored awa from the Salem's Lot remake so They're trying to fit it into a 2 hour film.
It will be extremely hard to do, now remember they are targeting 2 hours. Hopefully It'll be much much longer though.

I wonder who they'd get to play the kids?

Maybe that kid in Salem's Lot to play Bill?

Chalk this one up in the long line of studio suits "brain"storming . . . . "Wouldn't it be really cool if . . . " I swear I picture studio exec meetings closely following a Beavis and Butthead episode. " . . . . yeha, and then, we could remake 'Gone With the Wind' but set it in 1950's Cuba during an UFO invasion. J-Lo can play Scarlett O'Chavez. What's Joel Schumacher doing? Somebody get Joel on the phone! We need some really cool Matrix-like effects during the big invasion . . . . and the Baha Men to do the soundtrack!"

Let's take a mini-series and chop into a fraction of itself and then claim it follows the book closer . . . right . . . Is this a studio idea or is this Stephen King still trying to keep his old ideas alive and sell them as new again? (Yes, I am reading the new Dark Tower novel, and it seems headed to a shamefully self-promoted low.)

squirrel, I doubt it. I bet it stays, because supposedly it makes an appearance in the final Dark Tower book. Be a nice nod to the fans of the series.

Abob, hang in there. I think he ties it all together quite well. Not shameful or anything. He works himself in quite well, and that is a giant clue as to the whole scope of the story and where it is headed.

The WB Channel! YES!

Thank you for cancelling "Angel" so you could bring us quality programming like this! Who needs a sixth season of silly old "Angel" when you can condense a 1000 page novel down into a two hour TV movie, a novel that has already been adapted to television once in recent memory and is available on an inexpensive DVD?

King is the king of getting incompetent people to do his movies. or maybe its just that he does the adaptations himself and he sucks. his writing is good, but for some reason so often it fails to transfer into film. there are exceptions of course.......stand by me, the shining, green mile, running man, shawshank, the stand

but the ones that were not so good

carrie
misery
dreamcatcher
tommyknockers

and several others, that could have been very good given the proper treatment.........oh well

I hope this version will be some how surpass the excellent 1990 version. I'm very excited to see this come back to the small screen 15 years later.

Resurrecting a dead thread just to slam Richie Cunningham's hair loss?

AnyHOO, it's a bad idea. Two hours is a slap in the face. Tim Curry doing a Bugs Bunny impression in clown makeup and a spider from a 1950s movie was bad enough.
