The "Perfect" movie ...what's yours?

so i was watching the television and an ad came on for American Hustle.

they described it as the "perfect film" with all these Golden Globe wins and Oscar noms. i thought that was a pretty bold statement. i scoffed because i didn't find it nearly as entertaining as a perfect film.

then i got to thinking...what is the "perfect film", i guess, in your opinion.

only one came quickly to my mind and strictly in my opinion...

it just has everything i love in the movies. everything i love and enjoy and just embodies all that i look for to escape and be entertained. maybe my views are skewed because i am watching it, again, this weekend in 3D no less, but, it is probably my #2 of all time. maybe #3. but, by no means is my 1,2 perfect films. they are entertaining to me of course, but not "perfect"

so what is your perfect movie?

I swear this topic has been covered before, but for me it's "E.T." It's not even in my top 5 all-time favorite films, nor is it even my favorite Spielberg movie, but I just think it's wonderfully made, perfectly paced, edited, etc. Most of my personal favorite movies have flaws.

Taxi Driver and Apocalypse Now to me are the only perfect films. I can't find a flaw with either.

The first Rocky movie
The Avengers is very close to being the perfect comic book on the big screen.

As far as story, casting, performances, dialogue, cinematography, music and direction all working together for the same vision, my perfect movie would be:

Oh god, I remember seeing The Secret of Roan Inish back when it came out. I loathed it. I wonder if I'd like it more now as an adult.

As for me, I'd obviously name 2001: A Space Odyssey. And, of course, Duck Amuck.

The Goonies.

Not my favorite film by a long shot but it entertains me every time I see it and to me that makes it perfect.

Boogie Nights.

Great music, direction, story, writing, everythin. Just flawless.

And that cast! William H Macy, Julianne Moore, Luiz Guzman, John C. Reilly, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Don Cheadle, Burt Reynolds, Alfred Molina, Thomas Jane and Phillip Baker Hall. Oh yeah, and Whalberg is very underrated in this film and I see so many parallels with Whalberg the person the Dirk Diggler character. Just never get tired of this film.

Hah, funny you should say that cause I was thinking the same thing. Braveheart is my favorite movie of all time but from start to finish Boogie Nights is what I would call perfect for what it is.

Fight Club...Fincher turned an okay book into a cinematic tour de force. There is not a single thing I would change about it.

Raiders of the Lost Ark. One of the most iconic movie heros, toss in some great villans and some of the most exciting movie chases ever. Then have it released in the 80's and show it to a very impressionable kid. Hasn't happened to me since.

I'd agree with Raiders and The Apartment, but if I never see Gone With The Wind again, it will be too soon.
