Interesting. I'm guessing this will be a Canadian only release if its one of the "Mastered in 4K" titles since Fox has the rights here through their distribution deal with MGM.
It certainly can use a new transfer as the Fox release is supbar and the recalled Sony disc was better but not by much.
Edit: It says MGM as the studio in the details... interesting.

Nice I never bothered with the original Blu-ray as I heard it wasn't that great of a release. Hopefully this release is better and maybe we can get some extra features too.

Awesome. Even if it doesn't come to the US, it's the same region. It's way too far away, unfortunately, it'll be months, but cool all the same. Now can we get a better release of Predator?

the reboot is coming out February (a dumping ground for bad movies) 12th.
I'm just speculating, and I know that I'm giving the major studios too much credence, but you'd think that MGM could at least give Verhoeven his seal of approval as he done with the new version of 'Total Recall'

Like my initital post says, with the wording of the title on Amazon.ca it made it sound like it would be a new 4K master ala Sony's "Mastered in 4K" line.
I have no idea what the worldwide distribution rights for the movie fall under, but the fact that its MGM through Fox makes me wonder if it will be crappy like their Terminator remaster from earlier this year.

Of Robocop, yes. Of Predator, sadly, no.
Why does Verhoeven allegedlly prefer the 1.66? Wasn't it shot on 35mm in 1.85?
If they're mastering it in 4K this time, hopefully the transfer will be stunning.

I have both copies. The Fox disc is poor. The recalled Sony disc is even worse. Contrast and colors are cranked up to 11. It looks like a cartoon.

Re: Robocop (remastered) - 21/1/14
It was shot on 35mm with enough leeway for both ratios. It was still fairly common at the time for movies photographed "flat" to be projected at 1.85:1 in North America and 1.66:1 in Europe. Verhoeven signed off on a 1.66:1 transfer for the Criterion Laserdisc.

If that's the case, if verhoeven signs off on a 1:85 transfer for the new blu-ray, are people still going to be pissed about the ratio?

I would think it'd be dumb not to have Verhoeven "approve" the new transfer - has anyone seen the new DCP of the film - how does it look?
