I'm guessing that doesn't bode well for a Monsters U coupon, considering that comes out before Planes

I agree. Considering how (IMHO) boring Planes was... making the mediocre Cars 2 look awesome... I think a $7 coupon and a low price are necessary to have any chance of selling them. I don't know how Planes did at the box office (don't feel like looking it up), but I do know that I saw it and then family saw it during the first week and each time there were about 3 people in the theater (matinees though). At least there's no 3D version to worry about stores not carrying or charging too much for.

Probably won't get a Monsters U coupon because it was better movie and Disney knows they can sell it for a higher price without a coupon. In fact, I expect Monsters U to have the exact same situation and pricing as The Little Mermaid had where the 3D will be $34.99 and only available at Walmart and BB. Of course B&N popped up at the last minute with a $29.99 price for TLM 3D.

Actually, it looks like there will be a Target exclusive 3D version

Based on the sticker on the picture, it looks like the exclusive will be a DVD. I missed taking my daughter to this. Was it that bad?

Planes was strongly considered for direct to video until a hole opened up in their theatrical release schedule. Make of that what you will...

Wow! I never saw Planes shown in 3D at theaters, so I assumed they hadn't made a 3D version. To hear that there was a 3D version (post-conversion, I assume?) that never made it to theaters in my area is weird. Even weirder is that Target will carry Planes 3D but couldn't be bothered with The Little Mermaid 3D.

Computer-animated films aren't post-converted. They get rendered with 2 camera views, so it's "native" 3D.

Re: $7 Coupon for Planes at Scott Brand(DMR account required)

For those that plan on picking this up at Target this week, there is a 10% off Cartwheel coupon on this along with coupons for 2 Guns, Dexter The Final Season, Man of Steel and Turbo. For those wondering, you can combine the Scott Brand coupon with the Cartwheel coupon.

Also, the BD + dvd release of Planes will be $15 from 11/24-11/27 according to the ad scan posted elsewhere. Cartwheel coupon is good through 11/30. The Scott Brand coupon expires on 11/22(Friday), so I am assuming you could come back and get a price adjustment next week on the BD/dvd version.

Re: $7 Coupon for Planes at Scott Brand(DMR account required)

You might be able to get the BD/dvd combo even cheaper by pm'ing Wal-Mart's price of 19.96 + $7 + 10% Cartwheel

It's 19.99 at TRU and there's a coupon to get a $5 gift card when you get it, meaning it would be $13 for Planes + $5 gift card

So the Cartwheel coupon won't work with the 3D version? That's what it looks like any way.

And if you have a Target Red card, you'll save 5% more as well.

It will work. I used it on Turbo 3D last week with no problems. Even pm'ed Wal-Mart's price and it still took it off. I was afraid the pm would mess it up, but no issues whatsoever.

Re: $7 Coupon for Planes at Scott Brand(DMR account required)

Toys R US has it for $19.99 plus you get $5 gift card. So essentially 19.99 - $7 ( coupon ) - $5 = $7.99.
I only hope there is no 'dvd' package. But for that price I may be fine

( the website shows dvd price as $19.99 and Blu ray at 29.99 - hopefully it may lower in store )

Re: $7 Coupon for Planes at Scott Brand(DMR account required)

Used the coupon on the 3D Target exclusive version with no issues.

After 10% Cartwheel coupon, $7 Scotts coupon and 5% Target card instant discount + tax = $18.66 out the door.

picked it up at TRU. even though it took them like 20 minutes to find the damn thing, it was $14.66 out the door, plus the $5 gift card.

Does the $5 gift card expire? Or is it just a regular one?
