Dollar General DVD's

Saw some decent titles in the local Dollar General the other day. Picked up "Casino Royale" 2 disc collector's edition for $8.

Can't beat that deal, be sure to check out your local DG's.

Re: Dollar General DVD's

Has anybody noticed if Dollar General is carrying similar titles as Big Lots?

Normally, I see the tall rack near the register that has about a dozen titles marked for $10 -- I'm blanking on the titles, but I'm thinking "Casino Royale" (1-disc FS), "Deuce Bigalow", etc. But as I was leaving the other day, I happened to notice the manager assembling a separate cardboard display on the other side of the register, with titles marked 2 for $10. I didn't stop to examine closer, but I did notice the "Leave it to Beaver" DVD, which has been trapped in Big Lots' $3 display for what seems like forever.

It could just be a coincidence that that title is in bargain bins at both stores, but it got me thinking on the way home how convenient it would be if they shared DVD stock since I have a DG down the block and no BL for 50 miles. At any rate, those titles are a big step up from the public-domain garbage they keep at the center of the store.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a 1-disc for Casino Royale. It was originally released as a 2-disc, then a 3-disc was released when Quantom of Solace was released

I have no idea one way or another. Like I said, I couldn't remember the exact specifications as I tend to walk past the display without giving it much notice. Definitely the recent Daniel Craig film, though, not the older gagfest with David Niven.

[edit] Just got back from Dollar General. You're right, it's a 2-disc. $10 at my store, unlike ADP's $8 grab. And it looks the display I saw them setting up the other day was a simple rearranging of merchandise to make room for a Halloween aisle. They did have a few "2 for $6" titles in the clearance aisle, which is not too unlike the Big Lots grab bag if you're looking for DVDs like Martha Stewart cooking, "Fun With Dick & Jane" (George Segal), or "Shaking the Tree".

Re: Dollar General DVD's

Mentioned in the Big Lots thread:

The Quiller Memorandum
The Magus
The Seven-Ups

Also saw:

Morituri
The Chairman

Sadly, Dollar General is even less consistent than Big Lots. On the other hand, titles from this vendor ("Movies U Buy") are also showing up in 7-Elevens around here.

How much are they at 7-11. I won a gift card from there awhile ago. Is it the same price.

"Fathom"

Is that the Raquel Welch film? I bought that some weeks back from Burlington Coat Factory, haven't gotten around to watching it.

Any good?

Those are a lot of the same titles someone mentioned at the Winn-Dixie grocery chain last month. Good to know the Fox titles are being sold in a number of stores in this price range. Have two DGs nearby so will watch for them, was in there the other day and their dvd collection was nothing special, including a dump of apparently former rental dvds all in generic transparent cases in the $5 range, can't imagine who would buy those.

Re: Dollar General DVD's

Thanks for the info DdrKnghtRtns.

Watched the trailer yesterday.

Oh.

Gonna pull the Pig Card...

Ms. Welch has cellulite on both legs, hard not to see it.

I guess things were different back then.

In the good old days Raquel Welch was considered what you kids call "THE bomb". Woman with wider hips and legs that didn't look like tooth picks were considered "damn sexy" to paraphrase Austin Powers. There are few today who compare to Raquel's curves in her prime. JLo and Kim Kardasian run a very distant second and third to RW. They are building a Dollar General store right outside our neighborhood. I will be on the look out for this title as I am a sucker for these types of movies.

Re: Dollar General DVD's

Hit one of my local Dollar General stores yesterday to check out the DVD selection, and I was surprised to find several Blu-ray + DVD combo packs of Sony titles for $6 each. I picked up Friends with Benefits, Just Go With It, and Ghostbusters. They had several other titles as well, but I don't remember them because I'm old and crotchety and...hey, you kids get outta my yard!

Your mileage probably will vary, but I'd love to hear what other $6 combo packs have been sighted at Dollar General recently.

Re: Dollar General DVD's

They just opened a Dollar General right near my house and I stopped in to take a look. They had many of the Full Moon Box sets as mentioned earlier as well as the Filmation Flash Gordon cartoon for $9.95.

I was very pleased to find the complete Billy Jack dvd collection for $9.95 though. Made it well worth my trip.
