LOL, i am so curious about the game that I paid the 10 bucks. I am an impatient person. Only had time to play 10 minutes, but it was cool. Definitely slower paced that D3, but it has potential.

I might try the beta out. I am still on the fence on buying the Panda expansion so I might need a new game to tide me over.

Re: Path of Exile (F2P Diablo Clone)
well I have spent a couple of hours with the game tonight and i really like it. i chose the shadow class, which I would consider a thief type class. the combat is certainly alot slower and i think similar to what i have seen of Diablo 2. the skill tree is enormous and it certainly gives you more control over how you want your character to play. My shadow class guy is named CapraDemon. i started with a templar that i named GreyWolfSif, but i decided to play as shadow. when you look me up I am not sure if my account name which is GreyWolfSif or my character name CapraDemon shows up. It is still way to early to tell if i prefer it over Diablo 3, but I am very excited about the game.

this is what the skill tree looks like...
Here is an interactive map you can look at more closely

Instead of charging 10 dollars for beta they should just charge 10 bucks for the game and give free beta access when you preorder (I know it's basically the same thing, but would mean more income for them)

Re: Path of Exile (F2P Diablo Clone)
I was like "Why does Fox not want to play with me?" Now I know why. I only got kicked once tonight, but other than that I had no issues.
i put 2 more hours into the game tonight and I have fallen in love. This game is awesome. I am playing the Shadow class and it is wonderful how you can choose the skill path you want to go on. He is a fast, dual wielding maniac right now. I am plowing through enemies and when i get surrounded I am fast enough to get out of dodge.
The big thing for me is --- YOU FIND GOOD LOOT IN THIS GAME!!! It is so refreshing coming from D3. You also get these orbs where you can change or add properties to your existing weapons. I also found an orb that would change my item to a rare(yellow). I had a ball.
The graphics are great and the sound is great. Last night, I thought the combat was a little dull, but I am really liking it now with my character. I may shelve Diablo 3 now, at least until they do a really good patch or expansion. I urge everyone who is a fan of these dungeon crawlers to try the beta while you can for free this weekend. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Good night all!!

Got on it this morning, I think this will consume me while watching the Olympics.
So after sunday, I'll have to pay $10 to keep playing?
Is their a good character guide somewhere? I'm a templar, but don't really see what that means so far (level 5 right now).
Looks like I wasted an orb I found early, I'm guessing you can't recover them once used.

So far I'm unimpressed.
One thing I'm really not a fan of is how an area will reset if you've been away from it too long. I had gone back to the first quest hub area to sell some items and idled there for awhile. When I went back out all the enemies had respawned.
When you sell items to a vendor, you have to drag them over to the window. I sort of expected right clicking would do it, but it didn't work. Could be shift-click or something.
The overlay map is ugly. The game itself reminds me a bit of Titan Quest graphics-wise, though not as good.
The potion system is interesting, with them having multiple charges that refresh over time as you kill enemies.

i am really enjoying the game still. i have yet to party up with anyone, but I am hoping to do that tonight maybe. what isn't impressing you glassdragon? just curious. the only thing I don't like is the lack of gold. Getting scrolls and orbs instead of gold for gear you sell is kind of weird. Maybe it will grow on me. Otherwise the game rocks.
That is what most people want in a game like this. It is all about grinding and looting. You can't do that if enemies don't respawn.

Respawn is fine, but it's a little inconsistent. I used a portal to get out of an area and it disappeared, when went to the nearest waypoint everything was back already, which sucked.
I get where they are going with the lack of gold, but it is pretty awkward.

The reset timer on instances is currently 4 minutes for the public weekend. Apparently, it's normally 15 minutes which is a bit more reasonable. This is per a dev in general chat.
Keeping in mind that the game is still in beta, I think it's okay...but it definitely needs some work.

Likes:
- Giant, shared passive skill tree. Very well done.
- Bartering system
- Skill gem system
- Events and races / attrition leagues
- Difficulty feels just about right
- Flask system is awesome
Dislikes:
- FFA looting in multiplayer (my #1 complaint)
- Quality of life / User experience stuff (tutorial, tooltips, item compare, etc)
- Minimap kinda sucks
- UI elements tend to overlap at times
- Pet problems (they disappear when you zone, there's no display for them, and ai is pretty poor)

Re: Path of Exile (F2P Diablo Clone)
I got to Act II, level 28 I think, and it started to get to be a bit of a chore for me. I played 100% solo though, so I don't think it's made with that style of play in mind.
Still, I had a lot of fun. I wasted some good stuff by not knowing how the slotting worked but liked the system as well as the skill tree. It would be nice, especially in some of the larger areas, if the waypoints were more obvious or auto-triggered.

I co-oped with 3 other guys today and it was as smooth as butter. I made it to the prison dungeon and it is awesome. My biggest gripes are no gold and partying up difficulties. I love the game.
Foxdvd - were you ever able to give the game a shot? I know you were having connection issues.

Did it scale well when adding others? The prison seemed pretty easy with just 1 guy (so long as you didn't get too close to the warden).

The game was a breeze until i got to the prison and the difficulty really ramped up for me. the shipyard afterwords is tough as hades.
