Fun. We Are Young

Why is this so popular?

Horrible song and now they have another song "Some Nights" getting airplay.

Is this the next band we are going to see for the next 10 years or is their 15 minutes of fame about to end?

Re: Fun. We Are Young

I'm not exactly sure how this became so popular, but it is definitely not my favorite output from them. I know the song was featured on "Glee" which might have helped it. Their first album, "Aim & Ignite", is a really good album. From what I have heard from "Some Nights," the album definitely does not meet expectations after their debut. Hopefully the album will grow on me with repeat listens. If not, hopefully they will get back on track with their next release.

Re: Fun. We Are Young

The lead singer has the whiniest fucking voice. It makes me want to pour molten lead in my ears.

My gf loves the band.

This shit has been getting nonstop air play since January. Somewhat catchy at first, can't stand it now. I think the Super Bowl Chevy commercial certainly help propel it.

I guess you have to be stuck in a bar filled with drunken twenty-somethings singing along to "We Are Young" to understand it's appeal. All it did was make feel incredibly old, though

Re: Fun. We Are Young

Yep, this song's a hit, but Nate Ruess' former band (The Format) could barely get noticed, and were far superior in my book. It's not terrible, but his old band had such better songs.

That singer looks like a ventriloquists dummy and gives me the wiggins.

Re: Fun. We Are Young

Bon Jovi has made a a career out of bland radio friendly songs let's give this chaps a chance before we right them off as 15 minutes of famers.

I like Some Nights, but think Aim & Ignite is a better album. Still, good for them for getting some mainstream recognition.

This is my favorite from their debut:

As for The Format, I love this one:

I witnessed a group of 20-somethings at a large table at an area restaurant all break out in unison singing along when this song came on. My hipster coworker has been a diehard fan of Fun. for years, and absolutely can't stand that they are now being sung along to by frat boys and sorority chicks. I never miss a chance to remind him.

Re: Fun. We Are Young

I could name a large number of songs that annoy me more than this one. Not sure what the hype is, but it's not a bad song.

Re: Fun. We Are Young

the worst is when a friend of yours makes you listen to it while the phone is ringing. I have a few that have this song, this is the only way i'll ever have to listen to it.

Re: Fun. We Are Young

I don't care if they never produce another song. Some Nights is one of my most favorite songs ever and I use it for pretty much every workout I do on my own. Melts my soul

Re: Fun. We Are Young

This may be the most over played song of all time. That's saying a lot since radio played "Who let the dogs out", "Soul Sister" and "Red, Red Wine" to death.

Re: Fun. We Are Young

What bothers me most about this song isn't that it's terrible (though that doesn't help), but that it's utterly calculated and contrived to be an "anthem".

Re: Fun. We Are Young

^whats funny is that if you listen to the lyrics, the song is about getting fucked up drunk and high to a point where you need to be carried home from the bar.

also the second single "Some Nights" is number 19 on the itunes chart (it was 23 yesterday) so i don't think we really have a "1 hit wonder" band here

Not really a parody, but a special version with "Simlish" vocals for the Sims games.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simlish#Outside_artists

Nate Ruess did a similar rerecording for one of the songs from his previous band, The Format:

Here he is recalling that session:

And, the original version:
