Dish Network Says It Will Drop AMC in Summer

They usually work these things out don't they?

Amid a deepening feud with AMC Networks, the Dish Network is starting to inform its customers that it will drop AMC and several other cable channels sometime this summer.

In a statement on Friday, the satellite distributor said that it had decided not to renew its contract with AMC Networks, potentially resulting in AMC’s channels being dropped from Dish’s lineup. Dish did not specify when the channels could be dropped, but the current contract expires at the end of June.

AMC Networks operates IFC, WE tv, the Sundance Channel and its flagship, AMC.

Re: Dish Network Says It Will Drop AMC in Summer

I assumed AMC is looking for a substantial bump in it's pay rate. It turns out I was right because a little googling showed, at least with one cable company, they want about a 50% increase over last year, scaling up to 100% by the end of the new contract.

They usually work these things out don't they?
The first page of my search had 2 stories:
March 10: Suddenlink (cable co.) To Drop AMC channels
March 14: Suddenlink Reaches Agreement with AMC

Even if this does happen, somehow Carl from The Walking Dead is going to find a way to wander onto screens.

True, but the last time it happened with Fox..didn't it take several weeks to figure it out after the shows had dropped?

Re: Dish Network Says It Will Drop AMC in Summer

So was this annoying crawler appearing on the first run of tonite's (awesome) MM ep?

Dish has taken off AMC and the others from their normal lineup and have actually swapped it with the standard def version of HDNET though for the time being, us Dish subscribers can still watch AMC on Ch. 9610

dammit! I've endured their subpar MPEG4 compression and downhill picture quality since they dropped the VOOM HD networks, but I'm ready to bail Dish if I won't be able to get my Breaking Bad fix come July. If anyone knows of any current DirecTV promotions please PM me

Re: Dish Network Says It Will Drop AMC in Summer

I read they did the switch while The Killing was still on. How rude and alarming! They couldn't wait until the current programming ended to do the switch?

Re: Dish Network Says It Will Drop AMC in Summer

So AMC responded against the move:

It is unfortunate that, in retaliation for an unrelated lawsuit, DISH is punishing its customers by threatening to drop the AMC Networks, and with this sudden, dramatic change in channel position, making it extremely difficult for their customers to find and watch some of the most popular and acclaimed shows on television.
And DISH responded with one of the funniest responses back:

"A Dish spokesman said the channels were moved to a location better suited to their ratings performance."

I hope they work something out before next weekend when the "movie classic" Awake with Hayden Christensen and Fisher Stevens premieres.

It set records for scripted cable television I think.

That is why I found it funny.

yes, but overall, the station's ratings as a whole are pretty low.

And the shopping channels are higher in the ratings? LOL Shouldn't they be kicked to the 9000's as well?

Re: Dish Network Says It Will Drop AMC in Summer

They don't ask for the money AMC is asking for in relation to their ratings. Reports are AMC is asking ESPN type money, when they are not even a top 20 network.

Re: Dish Network Says It Will Drop AMC in Summer

Reports indicate Dish pays AMC .50/mo per its 14M subscribers. If Dish drops AMC, that's a hit of $7M/mo for AMC.
