Rental version versus retail versions. (no special features)
Did a search and didn't find any other threads about this. I'm noticing the annoying trend of renting a Blu ray only to find the special features advertised for this movie is not on the disc. Rented "Young Adult" from Redbox and loved it. There were no special features. At Frys, I saw that the disc comes with a commentary track, plus deleted scenes, and some other stuff. I thought surely Netflix would carry the real version of this Bluray. Nope.

I think it's two-fold, if people want to see the special features, they have to buy the movie as opposed to just rent it, and also if they want to buy it, they need to buy a retail copy and not the used rental copy to get the special features.

I've just noticed that Paramount now has some titles where you actually have to pay attention to the back of the cover to realise it's a rental-only edition.

I have noticed that Walmart has had a couple of exclusive releases that were like that, but X-Men: First Class and Rise of the Planet of the Apes are the only 2 that I can remember. And those are both Fox releases.

I added a hyperlink in my first post to the thread from March 2009 that lamphorn couldn't find, but here it is again.
