Beauty and the Beast was a Holiday 1991 release, Boyz is legit thought. Looking at that list reminds me of how much the early 90s sucked in terms of movie offerings... T-2 is the only one out of that bunch that still holds up IMO. Also, everything was very star driven.

You know, I always remembered the summer of 91 being a good movie summer... nostalgia is entirely too powerful. What a load of terrible movies! With exceptions, of course... T2 was a blast, Thelma & Louise was pretty strong, and I dug Hot Shots back then... but the only really great movies were the arthouse fare of the late summer, Commitments and Barton Fink...

I remember seeing V.I. Warshawksi in theaters. It's hard to believe there was a time when Kathleen Turner didn't look like she had a penis.

I've seen 16 on that list, ten when they came out. The only one I've seen in the last ten years is DOUBLE IMPACT. The only one I'd want to see again? DOUBLE IMPACT. And maybe ROBIN HOOD, which I remember liking. The only one I haven't seen but would make an effort to catch up with is MOBSTERS.

Of course, the best film from the summer of 1991 and the only one I've seen multiple times in the 20 years since isn't even on your list--because it was released in Hong Kong that summer and didn't make it to the U.S. until the following year: ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA, the film that introduced so many of us to Jet Li.

Re: Personal 1991 Summer movie challege

June 7th was the day I started my 10-year movie theater career. Saw almost every movie that came out during that time- I was always the only one who would see EVERYTHING the theaters I worked at played. 1991 was kind of crappy though, since the place I worked didn't get a lot of the movies I wanted to see. They played "Regarding Henry" for MONTHS, but didn't get Dutch or Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

I'm pretty sure Suburban Commando was moved to August or September, as I remember going to another theater to see it- it was the first time I'd gone to a theater I didn't work at, and the only movie out I wanted to see that my theater wasn't showing.

I was only 14 that summer, and thought anything that would enable me to spend time with my buddies was great. I remember that the two top movies of that summer, Robin Hood and T-2, also had to the two music videos and songs played in heaviest rotation on MTV and the radio.

Retrospectively speaking, the only summers I now remember as having a lot to offer in the 90s in terms of still standing up were 93 and 96 . The rest were kind of meh.

"boarding henry"?! I think you mean "Regarding Henry". "Boarding Henry" was the XXX version.

If I was doing a summer movie challenge for an older year, I don't think I'd even start early in May. Back then, Memorial Day weekend was generally considered the beginning of the summer movie season.

T2 was my first R rated flick that I ever got into as a youth and remains my favorite film of all time. I saw it few times at the show. You forgot to include Showdown In Little Tokyo which opened up like a month or two after T2. We saw that then theater hopped into T2 again and it was still a packed house. Good times.

Same here. My parents took me to see T2 (at the ripe age of 10) at a movie theater that used to be a church. I vividly remember the screening, but mostly I recall the T-800 scaring the shit out of me in the first shot where it crushes a skull.

I remember I went to Bill and Teds Bogus Journey by myself at the wonderful age of 10.

I think it was the 2nd movie I went to by myself.

Re: Personal 1991 Summer movie challege

I was between 7th and 8th grade that summer and can remember going to several of these films with my buddies. There certainly is a lot of shit on that list. Most of it I did not see, have not seen, and won't be seeing. It was probably 5 years before I caught up with the good films I should have been seeing like the Commitments and Barton Fink.

Of the movies I saw at the time the only ones that still hold up today are T2, The Rocketeer, and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. Speaking of B&T I remember seeing it with my buddies but I don't remember it being the summer time. I really remember it being a winter release. Oh well.

A couple of films that I didn't see at the time still hold up: Point Break, City Slickers, Backdraft

I vaguely recall seeing The Naked Gun 2 1/2 in the theater. One of my favorite movies, but I don't know if it was necessarily appropriate for a 4 year old.

Yeah. Last three years I've been doing 'anniversary' viewing during the summer. I'm probably a little older than you, so the years I'm most nostalgic about are the late 70's thru '81. Despite the abundance of weak sauce for the year, I also had a lot of good memories of movie going in 1991 too, though the stuff in my collection is sparse from that year.

With a few exceptions, I didn't follow release dates too tightly. Since I usually would catch something a week or two into it's run, I just tried to remember around what part of the season I saw something (early spring, late spring, early summer, etc) or it was released.

Was able to watch all these-

The Howling
Eyewitness
All Night Long
Zorro The Gay Blade
Superman II (Bd)
Clash Of The Titans (Bd)
Dragonslayer
For Your Eyes Only (Bd)
Blow Out (Bd)
Arthur (Bd)

Had planned to watch, but never got around to

Excalibur (Bd)
Body Heat (Bd)
Heavy Metal (Bd)
Stripes
History Of The World Pt 1 (Bd)
Escape from New York (Bd)
American Werewolf In London (Bd)
Looker
Wolfen

Would have liked to have been able to watch

Deadly Blessing
Outland
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
SOB
...but I was either waiting on a Bd release to do it right (Raiders) or, in the case of the other three, there was no really good DVD release I could get my hands on.

I'm not as nostalgic about the summer of '82 as most other people my generation are, so I doubt I'll be indulging in a lot of those films. Ironically this is the year they choose to release Outland and Raiders (and possibly Deadly Blessing).

Like scheduling or programming certain genres for certain days of the week, and following that religiously, anniversary viewing is another good way to exploit stuff you already own and in some cases get stuff out of the unwatched pile.

What a great summer I saw all of the above in theaters. Alas, I was only 10 so the other flicks were caught on VHS later on (the video store we rented STRIPES from closed while we had it rented out, so my brother and I watched Stripes (and Blazing Saddles) almost every day, all summer long in 1982).

Cool idea, seriousmill. Do you watch them all in order? You should see what trailers you have in your collection from 1991 and watch some beforehand - just to help set the mood.

I remember seeing T2 and The Naked Gun 2 1/2 as a double feature at the drive in with my parents that year. Still haven't been to a drive in movie since
